Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with Nier: Automata's excellent gameplay, compelling story, and memorable music. Many also praised the game's action sequences and high replay value, though some found the difficulty and map design challenging. A few players noted issues with the camera and lack of an auto-save feature. Overall, the positive feedback on core gameplay elements outweighs the concerns regarding specific aspects of the game's design.

The demo, and the fact that PlatinumGames played a role in its creation, won me over. This is a fun, attractive, and accessible mash-up of many flavors -- third person hack and slash in the vein of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, 2D side scroller, top down shoot-em-up, action RPG, 3D space shooter... and it all works pretty well. The camera can be a little fussy during these transitions, but nothing too bad. My only complaint is that it starts off with a bang, then opens up to a semi-open world that's just a little too empty, boring, and lifeless for my tastes. Lots of traveling from point A to point B with little of interest between them. Once you reach your destination, the fun and action ramps back up. Has an interesting and original story with above average voice acting to support it. Overall, a solid game with just a few knicks.

The game is difficult to describe. It is about androids and robots and humans and tries to convey meaning of life story to you. This is done by playing the storyline three times in total from a different view of a different character each time. The areas will be the same but the story missions will change. It has heavy notes of third person Japanese action/RPG games. It plays with a lot of gameplay ideas such as horizontal and side scrolling shooter sections and third person Devil May cry/god of war main gameplay. Sounds really cool but it never goes too deep on any of those fronts. An odd game, a pretty decent game, a very subjective game. It has a big following, have to play it for yourself to see if you enjoy. Definitely not for a casual gamer.

    Greatest game

Greatest game of this generation! Something like an undiscovered jewel. When you see robots start behaving like humans, you see how some human behavior really is silly or self destructive from an objective point of view. Game has over 20 endings, but only the first 5 give you the complete story. More importantly it's the type of story that can only be told as a video game. Most video games try to be Hollywood movies; this one wholly embraced the nonlinearity of gaming. Worth the experience.

For anyone familiar with Yoko Taro's works, Drakengard and Nier, and Platinum's degree of action excellence, you'll know that this was a match made in heaven. Battle are fluid and beautiful in motion while bosses have segments reminiscent of Platniums's work on Star Fox. Dodging bullet hells have never been so exhilarating. Storywise, you get the Taro experience. There's another layer to every experience that's only evident once you've been through and looked for more once the story grips you.

Been a huge fan of Platinum Games' work in the past (MGR: Revengeance, Bayonetta 1 & 2). So when I found out that Square Enix requested their help for this game, it piqued my interest. The original NieR (Replicant & Gestalt) was an interesting story-driven RPG, but the combat was very underwhelming. Now with these two great companies combining their expertise into this game, the end result is simply amazing. Anyone who's into hybrid hack n' slash and rpg games, will definitely like this one.

Nier Automata is a sequel to a cult classic on the PS3, and while it carries over some things from the original this is a whole new beast with vast improvements in the combat and style thanks to Platinum. And while the gameplay makes the game more fun the real reason to come to this game is the story, with multiple endings and several different perspectives this game delivers on a story even more impactful than the first game with many twists and incredible emotional moments.

You will fall in love with the characters! They are what make this game, that and the fascinating story that takes us through a breathtaking journey. Nier has some intriguing aspects to gaming and storytelling that I've never seen anywhere before but when it wants to pulls you in it will pull you in. So strap in and enjoy a masterpiece in storytelling and with some very thrilling gameplay

This game seems to have super good review everywhere, but my experiences so far are not very good. At least they didn't live up to my expectation. 1. Confusion all over the place The game pretty much doesn't tell you anything that really matters. It doesn't explain chip fusing, it doesn't explain that auto-heal chip doesn't necessarily heal you at the critical moment, it doesn't explain if you happen to choose to "wrong path" to the designated battle zone, the game is over, etc. The map is the most confusing in-game map I've ever seen. After a while in the game, you will have quite a number of quests on your hands, and you see quest marks everywhere in the map. How could I wish there was a simple way to track only 1 quest. But to do this, you have to do thru some tedious steps in the map tab. Of course the game doesn't even bother explaining the counter-intuitive tedious steps. Yesterday, there was a quest of which three areas were highlighted on the map. At the end of day what happened actually was that only one of them had the enemies I was supposed to look for, and then they moved to another area. I spent so much time searching the first area without know the enemies were not supposed to be there whatsoever. Also, the map doesn't work well to indicate if the quest is above you or below you. If the quest mark happens to be at an area with multiple floors, chances are you will waste quite some time search the wrong levels. 2. Slow pace if not in combat The confusions already slowed down the game to almost unplayable. From time to time I feel the NPCs in this game just "talk" too much, not to mention this game only has voice acting on some dialogues, I had to read those lengthy dialogue boxes. This is tedious. The story is not that grabbing anyways. 3. Out-of-control combat system Do I have to tell how annoying that 9S is? He looks exactly the same as the main character on distance. The camera doesn't focus on the main character well during combat, so from time to time I was focusing on 9S and thought that was my character. Not to mention this game also randomly change to fixed camera, which caused more confusion. Too many sparkling stuff during combat, too many. Good luck on knowing where "you" are during combat. This game mainly depend on melee combat. It does have a locking system, except that it doesn't work. Why do I have to hold L2 all the time to lock? And it mysteriously lose lock for no obvious reason. Plus, I have to hold R1 for the pod to fire all the time. I mean, why would I want to stop the pod from firing? R2 to evade/dash. Great! Now you need to press/hold L2, R1, R2, square, triangle, cross, etc. I ended up holding the controller in a very weird way. BTW, the pod doesn't stay in the center of the camera of course, so I mixed up 9S' pod with mine all the time. Please just stay away, 9S... He also blocks you when you want to open crates. Doesn't seem to be a very long game, but I already lost patience.
