A cult classic goes more mainstream

Doesn't live up to the hype

Getting solid 9s all over the web, I had high hopes for this, but it can't live up to the hype. While it's not a bad game, it's not great, either. It's a typical Platinum game, with a faux open world feel, infinite Dodge makes boss battles too easy, and an annoying camera that drops back and forth between side scroll and 3rd person. Locking on to enemies with L2 doesn't make the camera follow what you're attacking. The story is ok, but spaced out too far. I'd give this game a 7, it's worth playing, but not at full price, and not if there's something better out.

I have not beat it yet, to be perfectly honest, it is a grandiose, gigantic, incredible game so far, though. Just think about it: the writers, designers and musicians from Nier mixed with the combat/gameplay mechanics by PlatinumGames... It is exactly as badass of a combination as it sounds, if you know anything about those developers. So, as an interesting philosopher of our time once said, "DO IT!!! MAKE. YOUR DREAMS. COME TRUE! JUST DO IT!!!"
