Smartphone viewing requires internet service

I set these up for my aunt. She decided on getting internet service in order to see the cameras on her smartphone. I’ve set these types of cameras before so I know the difference in ease of installation with internet service (broadband) than without.

Love the system when it works

The only problem I’m having is I have to sign off and sign back on again and have a hard time getting customer service for Night Owl. When it works it works really well love this speaker in the spotlight. Wait time for customer service have time for dinner and dessert

Security System

But set up was easy and everything works great

Posted .Yes, this is an AC Powered Wireless system so each camera with this kit will come with a camera power adapter. We do sell some wire free cameras that are also compatible with this recorder, if there is a hard to reach location where plugging the camera in is not feasible. Decent system. Very poor protection plan policy

System is not bad overall but based on the protection plan they want me to return entire system for one power cord failure. One star based off the protection plan policy alone.

Posted .This review is not about the Night Owl product, but rather about the store. Night Owl is the manufacturer and does not have anything to do with a store bought protection plan. All Night Owl systems come with a 1-yr Manufacturer's Warranty.

Misleading 4.5 Star Reviews, Very Poor Quality

All the 5 star reviews are by BestBuy tech insiders and were less than 5 days old when I purchased the product under the assumption that actual consumers had reviewed the product. It promises the moon and fails to deliver. Very poor quality product. Check reviews and discussions for Night Owl products outside of Best Buy. They're pretty consistently bad. NVR HDMI output would make loud popping noises and image was distorted as soon as I booted. NVR would repeatedly freeze during boot sequence and require reboot. Contacted Night Owl tech support and they suggested I use camera power supply because "NVR power supply does not provide enough power". This stopped the weird HDMI issues and let me get passed boot sequence. Unfortunately the system would freeze completely after being on for a few minutes after that. Check better business bureau reviews for Night Owl and see for yourself. Seems like Night Owl has a very bad reputation for being of poor quality and having very poor support.

I like the wireless cameras and the ac adaptor was long enough to plug into an outlet at the base.

Amazing camera system with no monthly fees

This night owl did the trick. I have 3 so far. 2 outside the house and one inside to monitor the baby. You can set sensitive and hot spots. It does a good job at detecting faces and cars. Although if pointed at some pavers it has a false positives that it thinks it’s a human face. Weird. The setup was fairly easy. You have to setup the cameras first close to the dvr before mounting them to their final spot. It is hardwire. If you want to wire it to a light bulb (what is what I did) you can buy the bulb socket to AC adapters on Amazon. Works great!
