Buyer beware
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolute joke. I spent 3+ hours on the phone with oversea tech support and they couldn’t figure out the issue. When we did finally get it up and running the picture quality was terrible. I spent $527 on this joke because it was advertised as 4k resolution. Only shows up as 1080 on my 4k tv. Looks more like 480 resolution. Camera spotlight goes on and off all night for no reason, yet it doesn’t record. Sending this paperweight back. Buyer beware.

Fatal Flaw
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While the overall system seems fine, there is one fatal flaw. Every week or so, 1 or more cameras stop working. No rhyme or reason... just no more signal at all and nothing being recorded for that/those cameras while the remaining work fine. Not the same units each time. My cameras and DVR are plugged into Cyberpower UPSs, so the power should not be a factor. The fix each time is the same... unplug for 5 seconds and plug back in. WHY?????

Good wireless add on to existing system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is easy to set up and get up and running quickly. It did have a couple of drawbacks for our particular needs. The power cords for each camera are kind of short so you need close outlets or extension cords. Some nice features though I will mention are the camera quality and multiple ways to view, HDMI to monitor or TV or cellphone/laptop. Easy and convenient! Video quality is great and has audio including night vision assisted by the motion activated spotlights. Voice alert and 2 way audio....hope I never have to use it! We did have areas that had no camera coverage in our existing system, so this makes our system complete as an add on. The wireless capabilities are good and having to deal with placing cameras close to power outlets is really the only downside which was not that hard to overcome. Probably not easy for everyone, but this system us far more user friendly and easy to set up and navigate than others I have tried and gave up on. Worth the price.

ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please do not buy this device. The night owl phone app is so buggy that 90 percent of times you will not be able to view your wireless cameras from the phone. I have the nvr 3 feet away from one of my security cameras and can never view on my cellphone. I’m running 1000 gigabytes (cat 7)from internet provider with 3 Wi-Fi extender in a 1700 square foot home. ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE. My installer advised me not to purchase this unit because of previous customers complaining of the same issues of my experiences. 0000 stars

You need outlets close to each cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was anxiously waiting for the Night Owl 10 channel NVR Wi-Fi 4k camera set, to see how well wireless would work. I have another branded wired set installed and I thought either replacing or adding wireless cameras to the mix would be easy. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Let’s start with what’s good about the system. The camera quality is great. Like many other security camera systems, once it’s installed it gives the user some peace of mind. You can view it via HDMI on a tv or with their app on an Android or Apple phone. I guess for me, the word installed is the issue. I didn’t think it through, but once mounted, how do you charge the batteries? Once I opened the kit, I discovered how. There is a 110v adapter that needs power to charge the batteries. In my case, I don’t have 110v outlets in my attic or garage close to the eaves where I wish to place a camera. I’ve done my fair share of electrical wiring and have a friend that’s a licensed electrician, so placing an outlet isn’t difficult for me, just not convenient. I don’t know what I was thinking, but wiring my attic wasn’t one of them. So, in my opinion, the old wired setup is actually an easier install. I still had to run cables, but just back to the DVR and not to an outlet. Also, the ac adapters that are included in the kit only have 9’ cords, making it difficult to install just one double gang outlet and run the adapters to it. I did purchase a couple of 20’ extension power cables to go between the adapter and camera, which allowed me to review the kit. This is just my opinion and my experience, but given the choice, I would stick with a wired setup, and the power is divided right by the DVR and the user only needs two outlets for power. I’m not sure about other users, but I don’t want 110v extension cords running from a camera to an existing outlet. So, what do I tell someone considering this kit? If you have existing power outlets in your attic, I recommend getting enough extension cables that will go between the camera and the adapter so you can route them all to a power source. If you don’t mind running a few outlets close to the cameras and then using a couple of extension cables, that would be great also. But if you don’t have experience with electricity or access/means to a licensed electrician, I would suggest using a wired system that you can mount the cameras, drill a hole in the wall and run the cables through the attic or behind baseboards to get power right at the DVR. Lastly, so I don’t want to sound negative about the system, it is a great system as I said, once you get it installed. It has dual spotlights that are motion-activated. It has Google assist for voice commands. The system has face and vehicle detection to cut down on false alarms. What I may do is add this system to my existing network of security devices and add a camera at a time as I figure out where to draw power from. As stated, it’s a wonderful system except for the need for power at the camera.

Posted .Thank you for the review. This system comes with AC Powered Wireless cameras meaning each camera must be connected to a power source using the provided camera power adapters as you noted. For some customers, this will be an easier setup as they have existing outlets near where they want to place the cameras. But of course, it may not be ideal for everyone. The NVR can hold up to 4 of our Wire Free Battery Powered cameras, which are powered using rechargeable lithium ion batteries. That would be a great solution for hard to reach locations without a power source nearby. Please view the link below to learn more. Again, thank you for choosing Night Owl and for the feedback. https://nightowlsp.com/cam-bwnip2lbu-b.html

WooHoo - Setup is now complete!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Night Owl Bluetooth Wi-Fi NVR (Network Video Recorder) is a wireless security camera system that comes with four 4K HD cameras that also have two-way audio and a 1TB hard drive to hold your recordings. After unpacking everything, and there is a lot to open, setup was easy and Night Owl has videos to walk you through the whole process. The base should be connected to your router and an ethernet cable is provided. The Night Owl Protect app is the preferred method to set up the device; however, you can also hook up a television/monitor and the included mouse. I used the app method. After downloading the app and setting up an account, I plugged in the cameras (they are Wi-Fi, not wireless) and the base found them all. The cameras connect via Wi-Fi signal which comes from the base, not your home internet system. I like that the cameras talk to you and say “WooHoo - Setup is now complete. The image that comes from the 4K cameras is crystal clear and they have a 100 degree field of view which was more than enough to cover my needs. There is a double bulb LED light on the camera that comes on when it senses motion and allows for night vision up to 100 feet. The LED’s are programmable via the setup menu and can be turned off. Night vision seems to be better when it's in black & white rather than color but is usable and clear. You can program the cameras to speak when motion is detected by saying “Smile”, that you are unavailable or play a siren. You can also use two-way communication to talk to your visitors. The app provides alerts when motion is detected but as noted below, you may have many false alerts. These can be turned on or off. You can adjust the sensitivity of the cameras, either low, medium or high. You can also define motion zones and select if you want the camera to detect humans, heads and vehicles. I did notice that even on low sensitivity, the motion detection is very sensitive and gave multiple alerts for a camera that was in an empty room and was sensing shaddows due to the way cameras sense motion by changes in pixels rather than a separate motion detector like on an outdoor light fixture (this is similar to several other camera systems I’ve used as well). I suppose it's better to have too many recordings than miss the one that gets away. This also gave me a sense of “boy who cried wolf” and I turned alerts off as I am using this setup for enhanced camera coverage along with my Simplisafe alarm system. There is no connectivity between the Night Owl system and any security services to automatically send police. You can view the cameras live and if needed, download recorded video directly to your phone as well as to a USB flash drive or external hard drive. You can also add this to your google home if you have a Nest display. Just tell Google to view a camera and it shows up on the display. Unfortunately, Amazon Alexa is not supported. Hopefully this will be added in the future. Finally, there is CMS computer software for both PC and Mac that mirror the mobile app but not listed in the material. There is no connectivity between the Night Owl system and any security services to automatically send police. I really like this Night Owl system, especially when using the app and highly recommend it to anyone looking to add a camera system to their home. WooHoo - Setup is now complete!

Why would you buy a CVR where you can't playback
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has to be the worst CVR on the market today. I had a large number of gaps in the recordings that were anywhere from 1 minute to 15-minute gaps that I was unable to view from my PC but I was able to view them from the playback of my phone. After multiple calls to the support desk, I was told that this was normal operation and that the video of where there was motion could not be viewed. ISN'T THAT THE REASON WHY ANYONE WOULD BUY A CVR. Returned the system the very next day.
