    The software is extremely basic and non responsive and the security lights wont shut off ... wont recommend to anyone.

      Sounds like you are having some setup issues. The lights absolutely do shut off and can be disabled for all cameras if desired.     Cameras are good! Just purchased this and, after I paid for all the installation, noticed that the application is so slow and it freezes and not user friendly. when Im out of my house I just cant view the activities I don't know how to do to return it now. No I don't recommend this product. Norma

    This product is not worth the investment. Dvr started to break down 10 months after purchase. Camera quality is very poor. Had 2 cameras that flicker on and off. Have had trouble with manufacturer warranty as they take their time and have 0 knowledge of their own products. Will never spend anymore money on anything made by Night Owl.

    I have had issues with the sensitivity of several cameras. Can't adjust sensitivity from my app.

    Grainy video, terrible app

    Night vision video is extremely grainy. People's faces are all distorted. The phone app is probably the worst app for a phone known to mankind. It would send a notification about someone in front of cameras about 12 hours after it caught it. For security cameras, it's a joke. Avoid at all costs. I returned them.

      The issues you had with the product would seem to be setup related. The Night Vision should not be grainy and is something that could have been easily troubleshot by our technicians. The delay with the notifications would be the result of the network settings. The alerts are sent in real-time, but the network the system is connected to can heavily impact the notifications and performance of the mobile app. Our technical team would have gladly troubleshot these issues with you to get you up and running had we been afforded the opportunity.     U guys didn’t even have the need to double box the system u just slapped the label for shipping and sended it on its way when it got here u could tell from far away that it was cameras anyone could of stolen it and the box was wet and beat up

    System stopped working after 8months installed. The system hard drive crashed, system will not turn on, only red light blinks.

    Decent system for the price

    Lets start with the Pros: 1. A complete all inclusive security system with an app for live monitoring. 2. Easy as you want to make it install. I insisted on running all of my wires through the attic and into the basement without cutting drywall, so I made it fairly challenging. But you can install however you want. 3. Once you have your cameras set, hook it up to a monitor connect the mouse and power supplies and voila! It works! 4. It appears to have a fairly responsive support team (I have not contacted them yet.) 5. Sleek high quality printed cardboard packaging, that my cat loves to play in. 6. I found out that my neighbor enjoys my garden as much as I do. Cons: 1. A very very CLUNKY app and operating system. The directions on how to set your cameras up are not very clear. Nor are the directions on how to establish the network or gateway configuration. The app is a little wonky, but it gets the job done. 2. It does not have a keyboard. So you get to type with your mouse, if you've never experienced this just type with a chopstick its pretty much the same thing. 3. Basic instructions, I miss the days when products came with a textbook sized manual with pictures, that showed you every feature in depth. All that being said, I am perfectly happy with my system. Are there minor issues? Of course, but none that would keep me from buying again. We will see how it stands the test of time.

    C20X with 4 cameras. Worked through setup established login, set password, hooked up cameras and got no video. Unplugged all cameras and re-connected 1 camera. Sometimes I see red LED on the camera, but no video and the monito displays: 1080PAHD Cam01 N XV1. Not sure why no video - used different power supply, swapped cameras and coil of wire. Contacted technical support - worked through the standard troubleshooting process and still no video. I purchased this system 1.5 years before I opened the box. The out of box experience is described above. Unfortunately for me, there is nothing NightOwl can do for me. I do not want anything for free, I just want the thing to work. NightOwl could not offer anything except condolences. I have no idea if there are repair services, but nothing was offered. One experience from one dissatisfied customer.

    Installing in my 100-year-old house was straightforward. I like the installation kit, especially length of wires. Bought this to observe people rifling cars in front of my house, less than 50' from camera. I was disappointed with the resolution at this range. Even when human detect/minimum sensitivity is set, bugs still trigger events at night, as do moving branches; I get too many false alerts, even after I restricted the detect range severely. Cameras keep dropping color. Tech support unsuccessful in finding out why (but a good honest effort). They seem to change protocol spontaneously. Got manual, but not all settings are explained, so usefulness is somewhat limited.

    There are better camera systems out there, this system can't even record continuously and set motion events at the same time. With most systems it would show a red area if motion is detected when continuously recording during playback so you know where to look when a motion event happens. The app is also terrible... when doing motion only you can't play the last incoming video untill next one is recorded, then on continuous recording it just sends a video even tho there was no motion event. I have mine set to record 5 minutes of video when motion is detected it just sends me 5 minutes of video every 5 minutes all day. The spot lights turn on and off when motion is detected just fine but there is no way to just set them to turn on only at night. In the app you have to click on each individual camera to see the motion event that has been recorded instead of showing you the most recent motion events in order. During playback all cameras are not synced properly it will show one motion event from 9 a.m. one from 10 one from 11 all at the same time from different camera's. I'm pretty sure the company will reply to this and say their camera system is wonderful and they have a fix but it's crap they have too many apps for too many types/tier of systems. Just look up night owl in your app store and check the reviews. I have purchased and installed many different types of camera systems and this one is by far the worst go with Amcrest or another system. My biggest issues is with the motion markers during continuous recording in playback and motion recordings not being sent to my app properly.

    Great system

    Performed perfectly as expected, it was a gift for church, so I don't have access to it, but the priest has not conveyed any issues with the product. He especially enjoys the notifications when unexpected movement is detected, still get a laugh when he jumps on his phone to see who is at church without his knowledge.

    I purchased this unit in December of 2019. It worked fine for a while and then I got locked out and was not able to log back in to my account. I contacted their customer service support and they inform me that I was blocked out because my software was out of date. They would update my software and reset my password for a $200 fee. I never read anywhere on the Best buy site that after 2 years of use you will be locked out and have to purchase a software upgrade through night out to keep using this product. Very disappointed would highly suggest no one purchasing this if you plan on using it for an extended period of time. It appears to work fine The cameras are clear just can't play anything back.

    Uses obsolete BNC connections

    This is just a "dvr" and not a more modern "nvr". Looked at it at the store and just shook my head. This device uses old-school BNC connections and has separate power leads for EACH camera. This device does not use the more modern PoE (Power over Ethernet) that most home-owners would like to use. I myself have wired my house with CAT6 wiring. It is ready for PoE devices, just need a PoE switch or an Ethernet injector (That BB does not carry at all). NewEgg or even MicroCenter has cameras that use PoE. BB does not carry any PoE switches or devices. Better off with a true NVR and not this "kit" from the early 90s.

BNC connected systems are by no means obsolete and in fact are preferred by many customers, especially those looking to easily upgrade their existing CCTV structure.
