I often have to back off the image in order to achieve the minimum focal length. Usually have to manual focus in order to focus on my intended image, think this is a result of trying to take extremely close up pics. Find a tripod is very helpful.

I had focused on a 4x6 post in the back yard to test the depth of field when an ant walked through. His feet were in focus, but his head wasn't. I needed to adjust the focus up from the wood by the height of an ant to get his picture!

Fantastic lens and its a lot of fun. I am still new to photography so my images may be newbie quality but I wanted to show prospective buyers what this lens can do. I put the images through Photoshop using Topaz Adjust and Topaz Detail to bring more life out the subject. I have other images that are much better than these two but the posting limitations wont allow me to show you.

Had a Micro-NIKKOR 55mm back when I used to shoot with film cameras. That lens was so good I decided to try the new DX version on my D3200. Glad I did. This lens can do everything I expected – and, I expected a lot.

I love to photograph flowers up-close and this lens does not disappoint for capturing tack-sharp images. For work-related activities, it is very useful in photographing fine details (like text and symbols) I can use in professional documentation for other employees. In short, I'm very pleased with this lens.

I bought this lens so that wife can take pictures of her products, but to my surprise, I am amazed by the quality of the pictures I get from every day scenes, people and so on. And considering the price I paid for it, this feels like a steal. I don't have to buy an expensive Sigma prime lens.
Tested with a Nikon D7200.

Best Lens for the price

This lens is one of the best purchases I have made considering the price. It is versatile ( Can be used as a standard portrait lens) and the quality of the glass itself is great. The first day I took it out to the local park, photos looked decent on the LCD, but went home and transferred them on the computer and WOW! I was stunned! I ended up starring at one of the pictures for a full minute amazed at how it turned out (I am an amateur photographer). I would recommend this lens for anyone who would like to take macro photos and would like to save some money. I would recommend a tripod for nature photography but this lens does allow for some fast shutter speeds. Only drawback is having to get inches close to the subject (I have gotten some weird looks) to get a good shot AND this lens attract more dust for some reason (maybe since you have to go so close) than my other lens... Have to clean it constantly

The lens is a macro lens for Nikon cameras. The prices is reasonable and the quality is high. It was used soon after purchase and provide solid detail in the subjects photographed. Its strength is using it for macro-and most will be satisfied with the picture quality. It uses the newer lens technology.

Not as fast as the 50mm f1.8 but still a fantastic little lens with the added bonus of being capable of macro. I'm having a lot of fun with this and it's tiding over my macro urges until I can get the 105. Having a longer focal length would be great but this being a 40mm and producing pretty good bokeh it's also a great walk around lens.

Stunning, Versatile Lens at a Great Price

After using this lens for 3 months, I am thrilled with its performance. Pictures are beautifully sharp with lots of detail. I thought its lack of VR would be a problem when I bought it, but it's proved to not be an issue for me because it's best used with a tripod anyway. This is due to the extremely narrow depth of field involved with shooting macros. Getting quality macro shots would be nearly impossible without a tripod.
This lens is also great for general use if 40 mm is an appropriate focal length for you. Overall, a very high quality and versatile lens at a great price!

Very nice lens. I can get really close (3 inches) to the subject. I've got to study up on field of focus because at this close I get focusing problems. I can focus clearly on the middle of the subject but all around it is blurry. It is just another challenge for me, but the lense is great....operator error I think they call it!

Great overall investment on this lens. Bought it for a portrait gig I had and was very impressed with the results. Well worth the price. Haven't yet used for macro, but look forward to it with the nice weather.
