Best "all - in - one" lens

I purchased the Nikon D5000 and quickly became limited by the short lens. I needed to be able to snap pictures of objects far away, but then to take close up shots a second later. In my profession, I can't stop action to change lenses, and this 18-200 lens is perfect. It might be more money from the start up, but with this one lens I don't have to change lenses at all anymore.

    Perfect lens for nearly anyone

I have used this lens for a while now (going on 2 years of moderate use) with a Nikon D40 and a D90 and both have been outstanding. Of coarse you can go out and spend another $1000 on better lenses, but for those of us who are not making an income with this hobby, this is a terrific lens. The 18-200 allows you to take those far off and close-up shots of nearly anything WITHOUT having to change lenses as you would have to with the "kits" that are available. Those are nice but, for example, when shooting a wedding or something when you may want to change from close-up to further shots, it becomes a pain in the butt to change lenses (and to store them somewhere safe.) In the long run, BUY THIS LENS. (I would also recommend the accidental protection plan, just in case :) ) Also, the VR (Vibration Reduction or as other companies call it, "Image Stablization") is a great feature that is nearly required for any zoom length longer than 100 (this is up to 200!) for a steady, blur-free shot. Defintiely worth it!

The Nikon 18-200mm lens is a little pricey but it is a very good lens with a very powerful zoom with sharp results and a wide perspective. The only thing that I don’t really like is the high F3.5-5.6 so its doesn’t bring in a lot of light like a F1.4 or F2.8 but if you got another 1000.00 to put on you lenses this lens is not for you.But over all a super lens to have that covers all the bases of a large range of picture

Beats having to change lenses all the time

I've enjoyed having this lens. I used it on a cruise vacation and loved the convenience of not having to switch from my 18-50 to my 50-200 and vice versa. The image quality is just as good as using the 2 separate lenses. it does make the camera a little heavier than normal but not unbearable. I only wish it could accommodate a little wider angle on the lower end.

Amazing lens! Although it's much heavier than any lens I have, it's great to finally have both my 18-55 and 55-200 in one lens without having to switch back and forth. Definitely worth the price!

The only lens I shoot with

Been shooting with this lens for years. Love it. Honestly I consider my camera useless without it. The clearance price is pretty phenomenal at Best Buy right now. Basically half price. I bought this years ago for 700 elsewhere. Recently I bought it from Best Buy for 320. In my opinion, it was a no brainer. It is a bit heavy but you get used to it pretty quickly.

No regrets, Great lens covers 90% of my shooting. Has barrel creep if you forget to lock it. Feels plasticky for a mid range lens.

    Great Travel Lens

I bought this lens a few months ago and have been very satisfied by it. The only real downside is the cost. I love this lens for traveling and it does a pretty good job at every task I have put it up too. The only thing that I don't like is the fact that it's not very "fast". Overall, this is a great additional to anyone's set, but I think a couple additional lenses will be desired as well.

This lens is great for distance and close up

I bought this lens so I wouldn't have to change lenses for close up or distance. It takes great photos but once in a while when I am taking a long distance photo it comes out blurry. Not sure why. It's a little heavier than other lenses but worth it since this is the only one you have to carry.

Excellent Nikon vacation lens. Great one lens solution when switching lenses is not an option. A bit overpriced compared to the Sigma equivalent, but it is 2/3 f-stop faster.

Inadequate if you have high standards

I shoot cars, which I've found to be some of the most difficult things to shoot. Or maybe, it seems difficult because of this lens. I originally had the D3100 with 18-55 and rarely the 55-300 as well, then "upgraded" to this so that I wouldn't have to switch lenses when I wanted diversity in my event photos. I bought this when it was ~$800. First problem, it came defective. The right side was blurry in every photo taken no matter the settings. Nikon repaired it for free and it came back as good as I thought it would be. But after a while I felt like the D3100 was holding me back and upgraded to the D7100 (which I love, by the way). Unfortunately, this lens brings down the D7100 to a level no better than what I had before it. The photos that come out in focus enough to share don't really jump out at all. They aren't tack-sharp, there isn't great detail unlike with my 50 1.8. But what's worse is the photos I miss. Panning is impossible because by the time it focuses, the car is by you; that is, if it even focuses on the right subject. I've seen it numerous times focusing on a tree in the background when a car is parked right there in the foreground. I've heard other people say this is "good enough at most things but not great at anything" and it's true. If you use it to carry around and shoot random stuff, go ahead. But don't even try anything risky because it can't do it. I'm stuck with it because I can't spring for a 24-70 2.8 just yet.

Great lens, although I'd prefer a faster one. Image stabilization is impressive and helps with the lower speed. Takes great pictures throughout its range. I use this lens on a Nikon D7000. If you want only take one lens with you this is it.
