The prime lens you should have in your kit

I bought this lens primarily for a general purpose walkabout lens. It is both lighter and faster ( f:/1.8 as opposed to f:/3.5-f:/5.6), than the standard 18-55mm standard lens that often comes with the Nikon D5200 camera. As an AF-S lens, all of the functions work just like the kit lens. And because it is made for Nikon DX cameras it is the right type for the APS-C (cropped) sensor in the D5200 or similar Nikon DSLR's.

As an amateur photographer I was nervous to purchase this lens. I did a lot of research and ultimately decided to purchase this after reading the reviews. Prior to my purchase I only had the kit lens from my D7100 purchase. I love how crisp the quality of the lens is. I use it auto focus mode and it's so much better than the kit lens' for the purpose of my small photography business. I've been using it a little over a month and at about five photo shoots. It's everything I expected it to be after reading reviews.

The wide aperture and 35mm focal length(very close to the human eye’s) make this a great all around fast lens.

Best all around lens for DX Series

The following lens is the best all around carry lens for a DX series Nikon; the lens has an aperture up to 1.8 allowing for excellent low light photos. Additionally the wide aperture also allows for incredible bokah within close ranges. All in all a must have for DX cameras that you will not regret.

This lens is perfect for portraits. F/1.8 gives a shallow depth of field, blurring the background and focusing on the subject.

This lens is Sharp, fast focusing, lite, and quiet focusing. This dx crop sensor lens is equal to the 50 mm 1.8f on a full frame camera.

This was my first lens after my kit lenses. It is very cool and takes very cool pictures. The low aperture can make lame scenes look artistic. I was actually taking pictures of my kitchen sink and it was fun. The bokeh (the bubbliness of our of focus lights and objects) is much much better than my 18-55 mm kit lens. I always carry it with me. I’m not a professional photographer so excuse my lack of photo language finesse.

Unbeatable at this price point! I had the famous Sigma 18-35 1.8 and even tough it is just a tiny bit sharper in some ocations the autofocus issues where too much to deal with. This little beast never misses

After I upgraded my nikon d3100 to a d3300 I started reading lots of reviews telling me to get a 50mm lense for Sharp photos and these reviews were right except for 1 thing, on a camera with a crop sensor 50 is closers to 75mm due to crop factor and 35 is really close to 50. I now have both and use the 35 more than anything.

Love this lens. Can't stress it enough. Because it is prime I find myself thinking more about angles and moving myself to get the best shot instead of zooming in. It's exactly what I needed and at a great price too. I'm not a professional photographer but people are blowin up my facebook because of the bomb pictures I've taken with this lens

I bought this lens to use with a Nikon DSLR that a family member gave me. It was such a good choice. The low aperture really helps capture awesome pics. A lens like this is a must-have for photographers.
