I’m not the pro but I’m throughly impressed by this lens. I bought this as my 85 mm which I used to use often was practically useless inside apartment. Pictures are not as sharp as 85mm 1.8 but works pretty well on low light as well.

I purchased this for my wife for her birthday. She has three other lenses for her Nikon D5300. I believe this will receive the most use of the collection. She claims it is more practical for parties, and or family portraits. The fit was perfect, as was the functionality and picture quality. 5 stars.

I always liked using fast 50 lenses and with a crop factor on a DSLR this is a similar focal length. The lens is sharp and the auto focus is great, the f1.8 is great for indoor shooting without a flash. If you have only the kit lens I'd recommend this as a great second lens.

I am using this with my Nikon D90. I had Nikon 50mm 1.8D before I bought this which I was not able to use for day to day photography and had to keep multiple lenses most of the time. And with 35mm that problem is gone for me. The image quality is still as good as 50mm and depth-of-field is still very very good. With 1.8G, I've got better motor. Definitely recommending.

I was looking for a beginner's primary lense and after reading many, many reviews, decided on adding this to my Nikon D7000! Have not been disappointed up to this point. Although, I have not had the opportunity to truly run it through the gamut, I have placed my faith in my research and the Nikon name! I will update my review in the future if I find my expectations were false.

I purchased this lens to create prints of my watercolor paintings. I use a tripod and box-lights to ensure I get the great pictures. This is not a zoom lens so be sure you understand the pros/cons of a fixed focal length lens. Basically you can get sharper images with this lens than a comparable zoom lens.

For its cross between price and usage, its a great choice. I picked it up as the main lens for my camera as a simple standard short lens.
