Awesome lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most pictures that I needed to use flash with the standard 18-55mm lens this baby easily handle without flash. For a begginer like me, this is the real deal!!! Even a pro friend couldn't believe a newbie like me got such pictures (bokeh) only using auto features with D5100+35mm f/1.8. I loved this lens!

Great Piece of Glass
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was torn between a 50mm f/1.4 and the 35mm f/1.8, but considering that the 35mm is close to an actual 50 on a film camera I chose the 35. I could not be happier with this lens.

My everyday lens for portraits....& everything!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I LOVE this lens. It is used on my camera every single day. With this lens I really don't have a need for anything else. The bokeh is amazing when taking portraits or focusing on a specific object/subject. It also captures landscapes, close ups, etc. very well. Obviously there are other macro lenses that can get in closer and wide angle lenses for better landscape photos, but this lens is a great all around lens, especially for a crop sensor camera. Highly recommend!

Excellent lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this lens for a couple weeks now and I love using it. This lens is fast at f/1.8 and allows for a nice, shallow depth of field. Being that it is a prime lens, it provides great picture quality and the fixed focal length really allows you to look at your shot more before actually taking a picture since you need to move closer or farther in order to zoom in or out. My options were between this lens and a 50mm f/1.8 and I'm very glad I got this one. No regrets. I would also like to point out that the construction of the lens is top notch. It feel like a very solid lens and the metal mount provides that much more confidence. The focus motor is very quiet and very fast compared to the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my camera. I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone who is in the market for a new lens.

Great lens for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a perfect prime lens (no-zoom) for taking potraits and the low f range allows for good shots in low light. The quick automatic focus or manual focus option work well. You have to use your feet to zoom, but the lens delivers the shot. The low f range (f1.8) will make for a narrow depth of field so be careful if you are not used to that. The lens has a very small profile which is a nice option if you don't want to be dragging around a large focal length lens. The 35mm (dx) is a good all purpose prime lense with a wide enough field of view for most applications and is pretty close to 50mm on a 35mm camera.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8 AF-S DX Lens is Great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ordered this lens on 1/11/11 and received it in 1 day! Lens is well constructed, lightweight and performs flawlessly with my Nikon D80. Great value for a reasonable price. This will now become my best prime lens. Great for just walking around without the added weight of a big zoom. Images are crisp, and color of images great! Thanks Best Buy, and kudos for the fast shipping.

Don't even bother resarching this lens. Buy it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Click 'add to cart' and buy it. Inside I took the same shot with the speed light and without. The room was lit by day light from the windows. Beautiful shots either way but without the flash, everything looked more natural. Sometimes when the camera focuses on something next to your target you can fine tune the focus on what you want, without having to switch to manual. I am planning on taking it out to the country for some night sky shots and am very confident this lens is going to perform. The price is unbelievable. When I started researching lenses, I really didn't think you could get a lens of this quality for under $500. No zoom since it is prime, but with today's high res cameras, you can crop and still have a great photo.

Wonderful shots - Easy - Cheap
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my Nikon D3100 and it's amazing. The price is really what sets it apart from the higher quality (more expensive) lenses. You get more than enough bang for your buck. Definitely a must have if you're interested in capturing great shots of your family or anything really. This lens makes it possible to eliminate photo enhancing programs completely. I am very happy about this purchase.

Fast Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The f/1.8 Max. Aperture works great for low light. The pictures are sharpest around f/4 and smaller. I use this on a D5100. I find I use this indoors a lot especially for portraits. Since it is a prime I do not feel the need to move back and forth too much indoors and the 35mm (55mm equiv.) focal length is just right. I have a separate 55-200mm when I need it. I picked up the lens instore and delivery was fast. The lens is accompanied with a hood, bag (cloth) and a lens cap.

Great value to price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am new to this type of photography. This,Nikon DX 35mm f1.8, is a very good lense for my purposes. i have found some of the reviews to be true, You will have to move your feet more to compose a picture. I look forward to using it in more situations. For the money how could you go wrong. Add one to your kit!

Fantastic Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is a great addition to the kit lense. It takes wonderful clear detailed photos in low light. It has great bokeh in good lighting situations. There is no zoom but that is the nature of a prime lens. It is a must for photographers interested in expanding past the kit lens.

Excellent prime lens!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The moment I took it out of the box and put it in my DX3100 I could not put my camera down for a good 4 hours. I was compelled to take pictures of anything. Super fast. Low light is never a problem with this lens. Took picture with this lens in a room with only a few birthday candles lit, and the pictures turned out great. I haven't taken this lens out of the body every since I bought it 2 weeks ago.

Good Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got a Nikon d5200, with the 18-55 mm lens starter kit. I thought the 18-55 mm lens was a good lens, but wanted something else I could use as a portrait lens with a lower aperture and more background blurring. This is the only Nikon lens I liked, in the price range I liked. After trying it out a couple of times, am very happy with it; it's much better than I thought it would be! I might get another zoom lens, but felt like this one was a very good portrait choice for an amateur. The auto focus is especially handy. The only reason I gave 4 stars was for best buy. I bought the lens when they had the 3x points promotion going on, so I was supposed to get more points with the purchase. Unfortunately I haven't gotten all the points, which I was going to use to help pay for a camera bag. It was one of the reasons I chose to buy the lens at best buy, instead of another place. I've even called the 1-800 number and already spent more than a half an hour not getting a definite answer. I'm not really going to waste any more time on such a small amount, but this put me off of best buy. One of the good things about them is supposed to be their customer service, and I can't believe they messed up something so simple as points!

Super Sharp Lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in the market for a fast lens mainly to be used for indoor events (kids birthday parties, Christmas, etc...). It was between this lens and the 50mm 1.8. I chose this lens becuase i felt that the 50mm would be to much zoom for indoors shooting. I definitely made a great choice. This lens is amazing for the price! Paired with my Nikon D90 i get excellent shots both indoors and out. After using this lens for a while i have decided to also purchase the 50mm 1.8. That's two fast primes for a fraction of the cost of a fast zoom. Also nice about this lens is that it takes the 52mm filters. I can use the filters already purchased for my 18-55mm and 55-200mm.

Great product for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I went to BestBuy and bought a Nikon D3200 which includes the 18-55m kit lens. Image quality was good, but I figured kit lens was average quality. Months later we went out to BestBuy and tried out several lenses that they have behind the glass case. We tested image quality on the: kit lens 18-55mm 3.5-5.6f, 24-85mm 3.5-5.6f, and this 35mm 1.8f. We took a picture of the red Nikon camera they have on display and noticed that the red color stood out more from the 24-85mm than the kit lens, and more from the 35mm than the 24-85mm. Also, for the price of the 35mm, we couldn't resist. If you ever decide to buy a lens at BestBuy, have a rep to let you try the lens behind the glass case. You will know the difference in picture quality.

Great indoor lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great lens for not a lot of money. I bought this to use with my D50 for taking pictures indoors without the use of a flash. So far, it has worked perfectly. Fast focusing and sharp pictures. At f1.8 it shows a little purple fringing in areas of dark and light color contrast, but closing the aperture to even f2.2 makes it almost disappear. Great lens!!!

A Must-Have Lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is an absolute must-have with every Nikon DSLR purchased. I bought a Nikon D5300 with a 18-55mm lens and the quality and speed in this lens are far superior although the 18-55mm lens costs more. I highly recommend buying and using a polarizer (52mm size) to really capture 'professional grade' photos of landscapes. Although this is a fixed lens, it is more than adequate for 90% of the photos that most people will ever take. I highly recommend this lens to anyone that is looking for a quality lens at a great price. For the money, it is hard to improve on!

Great DX prime
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this lens for my D40. The only other lens I've had since this one was the 18-55 kit lens. I love the 35mm lens! It's really fast and works great for indoors! I've been using it mostly for portraits. It's really sharp and helps me produce crisp pictures. I definitely recommend this!

Awesome but ....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an awesome lens but if you are a novice user like me please be careful with this lens. If you are going to use it to capture pictures for an important event please ensure you experiment with this lens before you start using it. I have taken pictures of four people sitting in a row but since I had the lens fully open f2 , the pictures came out with the focus only on one person in the row even though the depth of field difference was very minimal between folks sitting on the same row. I was very surprised since I usually have take pictures @ max aperture with some of the zoom lenses. This speaks to the fantastic capabilities of this lens but learn and experiment before using it on your kids birthday :) to avoid disappointment

Great lens for portraits and landscapes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got a 50mm with MF and it was a good lens. It just was not practical for me since I shoot moving subjects. The 50mm seem too tight sometimes. So I went and looked for a 35mm. The auto focus helps a lot, although it could be quicker in low light. I would recommend this lens to anyone that is starting to take pictures with Nikon's beginner DSLRs.
