This lens is a great first step beyond the one or two zoom lenses that come with Nikon digital SLR cameras. While it does not have zoom capacity, it does have a much bigger aperture, allowing indoor photography with no flash in many situations. The 35mm size is perfect for indoors also.

every review I read claimed this lens to be the go-to lens for low light conditions and excellent portrait quality. I haven't used it extensively, but have been very please with the photos I have taken using the AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8.

The 35 f/1.8 has superb bokeh and works well in low light conditions, all for two Benjamins. It really is a steal. It is the lens I leave on my D3200 and I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. Great value, great buy!

Purchased after reading other reviews & am very pleased with the image quality. I can't say I use it as a prime lens, I enjoy the flexibility of a lens w/ zooming capabilities, but it takes excellent photos. As others have commented, it gives a nice bokeh effect. Great addition to a lens collection.

This lens is great for for people from beginners to professionals. It's a nice little lens that you can throw on your camera and take some shots with. With the 1.8 aperture, its good in low light situations and you can get some really crisp photos with it.

I love this lens, I shoot a 7100 and this is a great all around lens, it shoots very well in low light. This is the lens I leave on my camera all the time. Great for: A fast, light, inexpensive normal lens for Nikon's DX cameras, especially for use in low-light without flash.

I really love this lens and would recommend it to anyone, especially for those who love to take portraits. The aperture leaves the background nicely blurred while keeping your subject nice and sharp.

This is an excellent lens, overall. It's very sharp, quite fast and simple takes great photos. It works as well on my Nikon D3S body as on my D7100, but with a slight bit of vignette in the tiniest part of the corners. Very lightweight, too!

I am loving this new lens. When using it at an f2.2 I love the beautiful bokeh background and how close I can get to my subject. For my website product photos, this really does the job much better than the 50mm f1.8.

Great prime lens just added extention tubes not bad in low light situations. It's a great all around lens smooth and for the price how can you go wrong. . I'm using it on a D7100 which has a little weight this is just right when traveling around town.

I'm so glad I bought this lens. I wanted to take professional looking pics of my kids. It gives me the photos I was looking for with the blurred background when taking portraits. I'm a beginner and my photos instantly look professional!

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this lens and it lives up to hype. This lens is amazing! Extremely sharp focus, great depth of field, wide aperture lets in loads of light. Great price for such a quality lens! Couldn't be happier.

I bought this for my D7200 after reading many reviews and receiving several recommendations for it. It's fast, clear, and the focal length is perfect. Perfect bokeh every time! I'm so glad I listened to all the recommendations on this!

I've owned my Nikon D40 for close to 10 years now but never learned other modes outside of Auto until recently. I was not satisfied with the 18-55mm kit lens and wanted to invest in a lens that would deliver more of the shots I wanted to take. I chose the 35mm because it was more in my budget than the 50mm, and after doing some research (hello, D40 is a crop sensor) apparently my 35mm produces a look similar to a 50mm on a full sensor camera which I'm totally cool with. I like that it's compact, produces great bokeh, and my photos seem much more sharp, though that could be a combination of the lens + me learning how to actually use my camera. I'm happy with this lens. I plan on paying it off before my next lens purchase.

I recently purchased this lens as I shoot concert photography at multiple Orlando venues -- typically, I am granted pit access and am up close and personal with the performer. I do also carry with me an 18-55mm, but that basic lens is too slow between shots; my 50mm cuts out too much of the background; the 35mm is perfect. This specific one is extremely user-friendly with a great amount of 'blurred background' when the aperture is set correctly. It's quick and responsive and allows me to fire off multiple shots in rapid succession. Also, the lens is relatively forgiving in that I can be slightly off on my manual zoom without ruining the integrity of the focal point of my subject.

If you can only pick one lens, pick this one. 35mm is a great focal length (equal to about a normal human field of view) and the low aperture allows you to try a wide range of styles and shoot in lower light conditions easier.

Excellent low light performance and my go-to lens. It's a Prime, so you need to do a lot of "Manual" zooming by walking back and forth, but the pictures are worth the extra effort. Extremely affordable and is superb value for money.
