I was comparing with 70-300. For price, 55-700 is great lens for beginner. However, some later, I would switch into 70-300 for the quality of the picture. If you consider between these two, 70-300 is better off. However, 55-300 is good to use. - Don't forget to buy UV Protection filter - Light to carry - Work great with D7000

We bought this as an addition to the lenses we bought with the Nikon D5100 camera we own. No problems with mounting it. The wider zoom range meant we could put away the 55 to 200 MM lens. The wildlife pictures we took came out great. I would recommend this lens.
