OK for a beginner

Reaches out, and stops action incredibly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Use this with a nikon d5000, and have taken a variety of pics with it. The lens does great. It stops action in sports setting very well. Use the flash, or need a bright day, as the lens is a little slow aperture wise. When the setting is right this lens really shines. Make sure to get the VR lens. I originally was given the non-VR lens, and returned it for this and did notice an improvement. I use a sunpack UV filter, and have used the circular polarizer with good results, and would recommend the UV filter to protect the investment.

Great Zoom Lens : But ....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This would be a great addition to anyone's lens collection. Super for almost any outdoor daytime event. The VR feature makes many long shots possible without a tripod, and lets me move around the area with ease. The 55mm low end is slightly restrictive in closed spaces and I would not recommend it as a primary lens. The 18-200 might be a better choice If price is not a factor. I use Nikon's 18-135 zoom ( not VR ) : It's a much more flexible range for almost any situation. The 55-200 is definitely not for indoor shots of the kids & pets. See Nikon's 18-55 lens for that. - The only other minor restriction I find is that the aperture (3.5) is a little small to take advantage of flash pictures at any distance, in low light conditions ( ex: evening parades or night scenes ). But given the relatively low cost and abilities of this lens, it's still a solid value.

Nice Zoom Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this lens as part of a package w/my D3000 camera. I like the zoom feature if offers, and the VR (vibration reduction) feature that prevents blurry photos caused by the camera's operator hands shaking. The kit lens that came w/my D3000 also has the VR feature. I would recommend anyone who doesn't have a tripod or doesn't want to constantly carry a tripod around, to get a lens with the VR feature. It really makes your pictures look good w/out the blurry look. May cost a few bucks more, but worth it if you're not using a tripod. If you do use a tripod, make sure you turn off the VR feature.

Fantastic Lens for this Price Range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm just getting into "more advanced" photography by moving up from a point-and-shoot to a digital SLR. I purchased this lens as a bundle with my Nikon D3100, and my wife and I have both used the camera with the 55-200mm lens. The lens is fantastic! Great clarity, easy to mount and remove, and takes stunning pictures at a distance. We used it to capture our son playing soccer, and when we hit it right (still learning to use the camera!), the pics were gorgeous. Professional quality. So far, for an entry level photography enthusiast, it's been a great purchase.

Great lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far (it has only been a couple of weeks), lens is everything I hoped. Quick to focus, light weight, and the VR compensates for my less-than-steady hands. Except for a couple of stops on the higher dollar lenses, cannot see why I would have paid more for any lens in this focal range. Cannot vouch for durability as it has only been in use for a couple of weeks - but it hasn't broken yet. Just wish the camera mount was metal - the plastic seems like it could be a problem spot if I changed out lenses often.

Great Zoom lens for Amateurs like me...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review....I'm not a professional by any stretch of the word, but the 18-55mm zoom lens that came with my Nikon D3000 just wasn't enough. I couldn't reach some of those farther away shots, but just barely. This 55-200mm allows me to get those missed shots plus more without spending too much money. The Vibration Reduction is awesome, it allows me to take photos of far away objects as if they were close up.

Perfect lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens has met and exceeded my expectations. I wanted something that was affordable and would allow me to zoom in on my daughters basketball games, dance performances, and softball games. This lens has the perfect amount of zoom, and the quality is great. Vibration reduction is a must, and my photos are coming out crystal clear! I would definitely buy this again...I just wish I would've bought it sooner!

Good zoom and Great quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this lens for my Nikon D3100 and I couldn't be happier. This lens has a wider zoom range than the kit lens which is really good and the image quality is superb. I like that Nikon gives you a semi-soft case and a lens hood with it. This lens is great for amateurs or beginners.

Great addition
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is a great addition to the camera. It came in a package with the camera and was probably the selling point for me. The 18-55 is great for everyday stuff, but a little more zoom is great. I will still dream of a 600mm, but until then this will work. Some complain about it being plastic, but the lightweight is nice for us since most of photos will come from trails or kayaks.

Best Favorite Camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best digital camera I have ever used. The photos are so clear. The camera is very user friendly, especially having the Guide menu on the camera! Camera is light-weight and lense changing is easy.

decent lens for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the all inclusive package deal which included camera, bag, and this extra zoom lens. I did not know what all the numbers meant on the lens, but thought that having the Zoom capability would be nice. I have since taken a camera class and learned what I should have known before buying it. This will be a good lens for outside, sunny sports for my kids, when I want to get close, but if you want it for other things, consider getting one with a lower aperture. I am glad I got this lens with the package, but I would have probably put the extra money on a different lens if I would have known the difference. With the package deal, the price was pretty good, and if you don't need professional looking pictures, it does get close, and works well.

Great Lens for the Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Lens as a package at my local best buy. It was an AWESOME deal. Nikon D40 Kit (15-50mm) lens, + 55-200mm lens VR + $50 free gift card = $549.99. Great deal. I just tested out the Lens at a marlins game and the pictures came out great even from the upper deck (nosebleeds). THe fireworks (july 4th) came out pretty nice considering all the noise around. All in all, for the price, the lens cannot be beat. The VR feature is great. I had the 55-200 without the VR and if thats wha your deciding between, then get VR ALLLL THE WAY. Cons - not that great for close shots, but I dont think most people would mind considering it is a zoom lens.

Nikon 55-200mm lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this with a Nikon D5000 and got this lens as part of a package deal. I popped off the extra money for the Vibration Reduction because I don't have a very steady hand and this gives me great shots even when I am shaking. I use this as my primary lens. It is great for outdoor shots of birds and far off scenery. It doesn't have quite the zoom capability I was looking for but does a pretty good job for the price. I would highly recommend getting this to accompany your Nikon. For the wider ranges of view you have to step back some. It isn't too bad but I am considering getting an 18-200mm just so I have a little better range with one lens instead of having 2 lenses. However, the 18-200mm lens is quite expensive so for the price the 55-200mm should work great for most of your outdoor needs.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this lens as part of a bundle pack with the Camera, memory card & camera bag. We LOVE it. It is easy to us, & all of your pictures will come out great. It is AWESOME, the zoom you get & how far away you can be from what your taking a picture of, & it comes out so close like your standing right next to it. I highly recommend this
