This lens came with the Nikon D7000 bundle I purchased. Hindsight is 20/20, so with that in mind, I would have spent the extra money and purchased the bundle that came with the 55-300mm lens instead. However, since this is my first DSLR camera, I really didn't know what I was getting in to, so I made the best decision I could make at the time. After using this lens for about 6 weeks and getting used to the whole DSLR experience, I can say that the lens is fairly good, easy to use and is versatile for most situations. But, since I like to do nature photography, it really would have been better to get the bigger zoom lens. On the plus side, the 55-200mm lens handles very well and the zoom is smooth. I've had some very good results using this lens.

Works great, vast improvement over the 50mm that came with the camera. Image quality is much better and the VR technology seems to work well.

I purchased this in a package deal with my Nikon D3000. It is wonderful! Some complain about the plastic body, but it does not feel cheap. And the quality it produces is not cheap either. I love how smooth and quiet this lens is! BUY IT!

This has a toy like feel to it, but the images are fantastic. Dead on sharp focus with my 2 Nikon bodies. The VR works like it should. The light weight plastic lens may not stand up to heavy use, but it is worth it's price,

Great camera for the amatuer photographer!

The D7000 is a high quality camera with auto focus and comes with a nice 18-105mm general purpose lens for potraits as well as intermediate and long range shooting. If you buy this camera you can usually buy a second lens at a very good discount. Able to shoot 1080p HD videos as well as terrific portrait and distance shots. This is a wonderful camera for the amature photographer or anyone interested in learning the finer points of photography. I highly recommend this camera.

Bought this as a package with my Nikon. Excellent, solid quality as always for Nikon. No complaints and takes beautiful pictures. I will submit more of a review when I've snapped more pics. Really did round out my camera purchase by providing more photographic opportunities with this lens.

    Good flexible lense

After about a month of casual use, this lense has performed well. The auto focus and vibration-reduction features can be disabled for full manual operation. Purchasing this lense as a package with the camera will result in lower cost and better value.

I was looking for a larger zoom to add to my camera. I was misinformed that this would zoom in far enough to get close pictures of my kid while playing football etc. It has a good zoom distance but not what I expected it to be. I will have to go to a higher power lens for what I want. It takes great pictures with the distance it has though.

I purchased a long distance lens for her camera the previous Christmas, and it worked great, but she needed an intermidiate lens so that she could switch back to closer shots without have to change lenses. This lens does it perfectly! She raves about how well this lens works for the photo shoots she does at work and at family get-togethers.

Can't beat this lens for the price. It's nice that it's a genuine NIKKOR lens with Vibration Reduction. It's a bit slow in low light, but that's to be expected. It actually performs better than the comparable Canon models for their cameras, which is nice.

Needed a replacement for our old Quantaray lens (no auto features except focus, and the plastic mount tabs finally disintegrated). This lens is great, but we need a secondary lens without quite such powerful zoom. At 55mm minimum, you have stand pretty far away to get any shots of individuals. A great lens for what it's designed to do, though! Price was definitely right.

You will need a zoom lens in addition to the kit lens when you can't get up close to the action. I use it quite a bit, great for sports, nature and anything you need to shoot from far away.

    Great Images, Poor Design

I love the lense! I have been a professional photographer for years and currently use my cameras more for my art medium. The problem I have with the lense is the poor design on locking flange system on the actual lense body. Both of the semi-circle flanges broke off, making the lense unusable as I can no longer attach the lense to the camera body. I am hoping that Nikon will make good on the warranty, even though it is two weeks out of warranty when I took the lense into the store where I purchased it. I have never had a problem like this. I trudged all around parts of Central America with camera gear that never failed in this way. It makes me wonder if the plastic flanges cannot handle the constant use I put my cameras through. I am very bummed given the lense was part of a package deal and costs considerably more as a separate purchase. (Half as much as the original package deal!). Word of advice, remove the lense carefully after each use.
