Customers are saying

Customers admire the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Standard Lens for its exceptional image quality, pleasing bokeh, and impressive low light performance. Many users find it easy to use and appreciate its depth of field capabilities, making it suitable for portrait photography. However, some customers have noted occasional focus issues, and a few feel the price difference compared to the 1.8 version is a concern.

My copy is not focusing with my D610. Super slow focus and hardly ever got the focus right and it felt it's stuck and can't pass certain range until I manually twist the focus ring to adjust that stuck up area. I live so far away. I live on Guam. And the shipment takes 2 months normally so I don't want to go through the motion to ship it back and get a new one in another 4 months back and force. I just choose to keep it maybe later on sell it as a defect lens for $50.

Great Lens but a bit pricey for beginners

I'm am a DSLR beginner. Just bought my first DSLR and always want to get the shot of the blurry background. I bought the Nikon D3200 with the starter lens kit (18-55mm 3.5/5.6) ... didn't get the blurry background. So I read around the internet and learned that I need a lens that could do F 2.8 to achieve the effect I want. Looked around and found this lens 50mm prime 1.4. It was beyond my budget. I intended to spend about under $200 for my "test" lens ... which I can get the 35mm 1.8 for about $220. But this 50mm was on sale at Bestbuy so ... I read some good reviews about it and gave it a try. And it is a great lens. My first shot out of the box, I tried the maximum aperture 1.4 and the background was so blurred out and I was happy with it. It is still pricey for me but it comes with 5 years warranty from Nikon. So I decide to keep it and it is my primary and only lens now. It's fast auto focus ... great color ... good lens.

I was hesitant to buy this lens, however I am very happy that I did! This lens is excellent for portraits, and has the ability to achieve the bokeh needed for amazing portraits. This lens is also great for low-light areas, as I used it in a museum with little light and still achieved great photos (with a little trial and error).

This lens takes portraits and pictures with low light with no issues. The one thing to keep in mind is that this lens is fixed, meaning no zooming in and out (your feet will be doing the zooming).
