Just buy it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everyone with a DSLR should own this lens. Why? It's cheap. Compared to even the entry level Nikons, this is a drop in the bucket. Good glass will take your shots to the next level. This should be the kit lens!... but people would gripe about 'walking' and such. It's light and inconspicuous. You can carry this all day. It feels like you are carrying the body-only. On a smaller body sans battery grip, you are practically in stealth mode with this little thing. Subjects seem to prefer the lower profile. It's fast and sharp. Bokeh, f/1.8 is going to let you blow out those backgrounds and isolate your subjects even in low light. I use this lens on the D5300 DX and D750 FX bodies. If I know I can get away with it, I will throw this on in place of one of my zooms. Just buy it. I'm not going to upload images because I'm limited to 5mb... I think my shoots larger file sizes.

Amazing Bokeh
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is an incredible value for the money, which probably explains why its so hard to find right now. The wide aperture creates incredible background blur in portraits, and also allows for shorter exposures in low-light conditions. Another nice thing about this lens is that the outermost element is set deep into the housing. As such, you rarely need to bother with a lens hood, although one is included. On a DX format camera (like my D5100) this FX lens has an equivalent focal length of about 75mm, making it better choice for portraits than the 35mm DX. I thought about settling for the 35mm DX, but I decided to wait until this lens was available. It's worth every penny, and it's a must-own for DX and FX format cameras alike.
