I had to return my first piece due to it being having a very tight twist to get it mounted. Unlike my other lenses, this lens would mount, but with lot of pressure. I had to return it fearing that it would damage my camera. Have no issues with this second piece. Took a few shots inside and it seems to do what its supposed to. I love the 1.8 aperture which produces this nice bokeh. Even though this is meant more for portrait purposes, I am planning to take some outdoor shots soon hoping it won't disappoint me.

    Excellent Lens

We had our first child a little over a year ago. After taking over 3,000 pictures with our iPhones, my wife and I decided to get a "real" camera that we could grow with. Picked up the D3200 with the two kit lenses, and after plenty of research and reviews, sprung for this 50mm. We absolutely love it! Trying to take candid "in the moment" pictures of our daughter works very well with this lens because it's so FAST! The kit lenses can't keep up with her moving around so much. We've already taken another 2,000 pictures with the camera for her birthday party and Christmas. We've probably only used the kit lenses for 100 of those shots. I've been playing around taking "creative" pictures of Christmas lights and what not and it gives you that really nice blurred background that everyone talks about - we love it!

Since Best Buy informed me in "microscopic" print that signatures are required for delivery, I spent half the night chasing down the UPS guy to get my lens.....but so happy I did! Have only taken a few shots with it so far but I'm so happy with it and can't wait to shoot away. The focus is fast and accurate and the bokeh is beautiful! Almost makes me feel like I'm "cheating".

    Fantastic Upgrade to Kit Lens

I bought this lens as an upgrade to my 18-55mm & 55-200mm kit lenses. This was the most reasonably priced upgrade to introduce me to using a prime lens. It takes fantastic photos in all kinds of lighting. Night photos on a tripod are gorgeous! The focal length is a bit tight for indoors but once you get used to moving around (as opposed to zooming in and out), it's not really an issue. All in all, it's a fantastic upgrade for anyone looking to move beyond your basic kit lens.

I was on my way to a bridal party event for my fiance' and all I had with me was my 70-200 f/2.8. I needed a lens wide enough to shoot in small rooms. This lens definitely fit the bill. I own a D750 and this lens is super sharp even wide open at 1.8. Its wide enough for group photos, and a superb solo portrait lens.

I love this lens, I rarely take it off my body. I wish I would have purchased this sooner! This picture was taken without a flash, just natural lighting from the windows.

The Nikon AF-S 50mm is an excellent medium range lens. I bought it for portrait photography and for the wide aperture. At f1.8 wide open it can really drop out the background to isolate your subject. It also makes indoor photography easier in low light conditions by allowing more light to hit the sensor. The 50mm focal length is perfect for doing portraits. I also found that having a fixed focal length helps me to think more creatively about composing my shots since a I can't just zoom in and out. It is definitely worth adding to your lens collection.

This lens is great for portrait shot. I compared with portrait shots with my 18-250mm lens. The difference was enormous. Though 18-250mm portrait were still good, but the 50mm was vividly clear.

I use this lens with my Nikon D7000 and have done a lot of research before purchasing. I was confused between the 35mm and 50mm, but decided to go with the 50mm. This is the best decision I made after purchasing the camera. There is a lot of difference in the pictures taken using the kit lens (18-55) and this prime lens. I would suggest anyone who is interested in photography to get this lens. This makes photography a lot more fun.
