A good lens, not quite as good as the 50mm F/1.4, but about half the price. Light weight for easy carrying and focus is fast. Quality Nikon product.

Sharp fast lens. When you open wide the aperture to 1.8 or 2.8, you have very nice blur background. Love it.

A Must Have Lens for the Price

This is the lens that everyone says should be your first lens after the kit, and they are right. It's way sharper than a standard zoom lens, and it's a good length for a lot of different kinds of shooting. On a crop sensor body, it's going to get you pretty close, sometimes too close for indoor shooting, which is a shame because I much prefer it to my zoom. I can instantly look at the level of detail in one of my photos and tell you which lens I was using. This lens sees things that the other one just doesn't capture. I highly recommend it for the very affordable price.

I am beginners in the world of DLSR/Lenses , this was my first lens ever i brought. I brought this lens to do photo shoot of my new born and lens did good job as expected. I am still learning how to get best out for the lens. This lens is awesome for closeup, i m beginners so i need little time like 20-30 sec to focus lens correctly to take photo, if you are planning out door trip like going NY or DC to day trip this lens might not be good fit as this is good fit for closeup and portrait.
