I am just learning photography. My daughter is a professional photographer and she let me borrow this lens and I could not believe how amazing the pictures came out. After that I just had to buy one for myself and it has not disappointed. Even an amateur like me can take great pictures and it is fantastic for professionals as well. I highly recommend this lens for anyone.

Unfortunately, if you are looking for a technical review, then this review is not for you. There are many other reviews that will give you that, but this won't be one. Though I've been shooting for years, I've only been shooting with a 50mm for the last 5 or so years now. It has been a game-changer in capturing portraits as well as just a great alternative as an everyday lens to capture just about anything. It's also smaller and easier to travel with if you are looking for a more compact lens. I bought it as a replacement for a 50mm lens that was stolen. So, I simply just replaced what I had initially. I haven't met a 50mm lens that didn't do exactly what I purchased it to do. So, I truly have no complaints about this purchase. Great bang for your buck.

Exactly what I was looking for to take pictures of my sons basketball games, which if you have ever tried doing with an average f/stop lens is very difficult due to the poor lighting . It has taken a little while to get use to which settings work the best, and I am still experimenting but I have taken some amazing pictures. Well worth the investment, you won't be disappointed.

Decided to get new lens before changing to a different slr. Wanted the blurred/bokeh background. After purchasing this (in store) I was excited to test it out. Love it! Looks like I’ll keep the d3100 ( yes, I know, VERY old) for another year or 2.

I really love my new prime lens. It is easy to use and the photos are excellent quality.

I also bought the 35mm which I use more often. However this one is also super nice and takes amazing portraits. I keep this one and my 35mm prime in my bag at all times. I've taken amazingly clear shots of my child at the park that looked like a pro photographer took them. Its definitely a very nice lens.

Everyone needs a good, fast portrait lens in their camera bag! Been using this lens for over a year now and it is my choice (over several zoom lenses that came with the camera) for good still shots. It is fast enough for great effects and takes full advantage of the modes and settings on my DSLR.

The lens gives the background a really good blurred which helps to make the subject really stand out. The auto focus is great to really bring in the sharpness of the subject. I am glad I purchased this lens it has helped me achieve the look I was after.
