I needed a good quality lens for taking Christmas photos that would do better then the kit lens that came with my Nikon D3300. The lens is sharp and fast. I have used it to do 19 photo shoots of families and children. I love the ability to shoot at F/1.8!!! It's a great lens for just at $200. I should have bought this awhile ago. It's an Fx lens that when on my Crop Sensor D3000 gives me 75mm which is great for portraits!

As a photography amateur, I was looking for a trusty, multi-use lens that could give me blurry backgrounds and that always sought after a "bokeh" effect. That is exactly what I got with this lens! My pictures are more crisp and detailed than I could have ever imagined. I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone who is new to DSLR photography and wants to build up their lens collection. As a side note, I use this lens with a Nikon d3300.

One of the Must have lens for FX body

This is Nikon's one of the best lens. If you own a FX body and considering a portrait lens this is a good buy. I was considering 1.4 50mm but that was more than double the price. At $200, this 1.8 50mm is a bargain. I owned 35mm 1.8m DX lens and this FX is actually lighter than DX. Built quality feels "cheap", but for that price I would still take it. This lens is Sharp that makes me a one happy owner.

I bought this lens due to many good reviews I read online. I've used it several times since I purchased it and am very please with its performance. It light weight and very easy to use. Being only an amateur photographer, it was simple to use and it takes great pics on my Nikon D750 full frame camera. Everyone should carry this 50mm in their camera bag.

I'm a beginner and enthusiast and after my wife bought this lens for us for Christmas, it's on the camera most of the time. The pictures it takes are beautiful. I love the pics I can get of my daughters and how it blurs out the background a bit or alot depending on settings. So I don't know how this compares to other 50mm lenses; but I do know that the type and quality of the picture is great.

    Your standard "nifty fifty"

This is your standard "nifty fifty" lens as it's called in the photography world. These lenses are great because they are generally cheap for the image they produce, and offer a wide aperture (f/1.8). I used this on a D750 and have been nothing but pleased with the results. Images are sharp, autofocus works fine, and is lightweight without feeling too cheap. My only minor complaint, and I don't know if it's the lens in general, my specific copy of the lens, or my camera, but it fits very snug on the mount on my camera, and requires more force than any of my other lenses to take on and off. And, this lens being relatively small gives me even less to grip. But, that's really not enough to not use this lens.

This lens has become one of my favorite lenses to use. It's always in my bag when I go on shoots. It's very light weight, which is perfect for walking around and doing street photography. It's also small and barely takes up any room in my camera bag. Pictures come out sharp and have yet to notice any chromatic aberrations. The auto focus with manual override comes in handy.

It is an excellent lens. The quality on the NiKon d5100 with this lens is great. The only disadvantage is that lensures does not have any image stabilization, so I have to use a faster Sutter speed as at least 1/75. But at same time I can use f1.8 or for 2.8 aperture to compensate in low light. Finally, this is a great lens especially for portrait.

Great lens, I bought it to take pictures of my daughter who was going to be born later that week. I was going to go with the manual AF lens but decided to spend the extra money on this AF-S (about $100), this did not make my wife happy at all. I told her I would play around with the lens and see if I even liked it, then possibly return it. I came home took about 10 pictures with it, showed my wife the pictures and she said I could keep it, but I was not allowed to get a new backpack for my camera/equipment (which is the only downside of this purchase). I have been asked by numerous people who I hired to take our baby photos and it feels really good to say "oh those photos? I took those in our living room." This lens is a must have for anyone starting out in the hobby, I have barely used my 18-55 lens since I purchased this lens. Best Buy also had a price very comparable with everything I found on eBay and Amazon, so I purchased it in store and got to play around with it immediately instead of waiting 3-5 days for shipping.

Fast and sharp, but understand the focal length

This is a great, sharp, fast lens that takes excellent pictures. This was explained to us by the Best Buy salesman as a "portrait lens", which is very accurate. With the 1.5x conversion factor on a DX mount camera (i.e. Nikon D3300), this is a 75mm lens. This is great for taking close ups without having to be too close. However, if you are looking to use this to take wider angle pictures of a subject and fit it all into the frame, you will have to stand a lot farther back to capture the entire image. If you know what you are getting, it's a great lens. However, if you are looking for a true 50mm lens and do not have a full frame camera, then I would recommend the 35mm.

This lens is absolutely awesome! It is my first purchase after the lens that came with my camera. I love how fast it is, how clear it is and how big the aperture can go! It's a great fixed length lens and a great portrait lens! If you know your settings on Manual mode, all your photos can come out looking magazine quality!

Very happy with this lens. A good general purpose lens that is light weight and relatively fast f/1.8 and 50mm focal length. Takes good sharp pictures. Would use for portraits also. Being single focal length makes the lens shorter and lighter. Recent $40 price reduction by Nikon made the lens a little more affordable.

The minute I put this on my D750 I saw the difference immediately. At f 1.8 it let's on a lot of light and you get amazing boke effects. The pictures come out sharp and the focus is faster than the kit lens that came with the D750. I highly recommend it if you need a lens for portrait.

I bought this lens mainly for portrait and landscape photography, but it is a great lens for almost anything. So far it has performed as I had expected it to. The fast aperture has allowed me to take sharper photos in darker situations. Incredible prime lens for the price.

There are two options for a 50 on the Nikon that are worth checking out: the 50 f/1.4G and this one, the 50 1/8G. While both are excellent, reviews between the two generally give the nod to the 1.8G variant. Considering the price (can be had for under $200), the 50 f/1.8G was a no-brainer choice. Get it. Use it. Love it.

Last Christmas I bought my wife a D3300 and I've wanted to get her a lens with a really open aperture ever since then. I got this one for her for Mother's Day and we've both been really impressed with it. It makes a huge difference for portrait shots.

I really really love this lens! I bought a DSLR that came with 2 camera lenses (a kit). They were great but I wanted better quality and wanted to amp up my photographs. This lens is perfect! The photos come out amazing and it is reasonably priced!
