Customers are saying
Customers frequently mention the exceptional image quality and impressive zoom capabilities of the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Telephoto Zoom Lens. Many also praise its ease of use and effective vibration reduction. However, some users note that the lens is somewhat heavy and its performance can be affected in low-light conditions. Its an OK lense
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At 300mm, the focus isnt that sharp Max 200mm, anything after that the sharpness suffers Returned the lens, not worth the money

Great value for a high power zoom lens.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great lens for the money. It is solid and well built. I purchased it along with a D7000 DSLR that came with a 18-105mm DX kit lens. It has a fast auto focus. Great for action and sports. A feature I like is that the lens can be manually focused when set in the auto focus mode (A / M). It is not necessary to switch between auto focus and manual focus mode. It also has a focus distance indicator, which you won't find on the comparable 55-300mm DX zoom lens. It is an FX lense, so it is also compatible with the larger FX sensor format. If you think you will ever upgrade to a FX format DSLR format camera this lens will be able to follow you. If fast auto focus is not important and you don't plan on ever upgrading to an FX format DSLR format camera the 55-300mm DX zoom lens is a good economical alternative choice. The 55-300mm DX is also a good choice if it will be your only lens or only zoom lens because of the wider 55mm focal length at the lower end. I'm glad I chose the 70-300mm lens. It's a great value and with the kit lens that came with the D7000 I have coverage from 18mm to 300mm in just two lenses.

Excellent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had a Nikon D50 for 4 years and have taken some great shots with the 18-55mm kit lens and the 55-200mm (non-VR) lens that I bought to shoot my kids' soccer, lacrosse, football, etc. games. I spent a lot of time researching the options available for an upgrade, and ended up choosing the 70-300mm VR over the the 55-300mm VRII based on a number of factors including lack of distortion, better build quality, and tack sharpness throughout the range of the zoom. In short, I have not been disappointed. This lens is much heavier than most of the DX-specific lenses I have tried. And for those of you who have not stepped up to a VR lens -- the difference is incredible. I had become accustomed to not being able to take sharp pictures at an indoor swim meet without a flash -- VR makes it so easy to take sharp pictures at 300mm on longer exposures that I don't think twice about taking the shot any more.

Zoom lens I needed!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using the G version of this lens, I was amazed at how heavy this was in comparison..but it was very easy to handhold with my D50. VR feature is great, I don't have to use a tripod for pictures at 1/60. I used to get blurry pictures with the G version of the lens even at 1/125 or more. It also gave me the reach that I needed for zoo pictures and some moon shots that I took yesterday before and around the lunar eclipse. The other great thing about this lens is the bokeh, even at 70-100 range...pictures of my kids look so beautiful with the blurred background. Highly recommended for a general walkabout telephoto zoom.

Decent Multi-Purpose Lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good multi-purpose lens. I do feel however, that for the money, it's not that much better than the 55-300 4.5/5.6 lens.

A great upgrade from the typical kit lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased this gem yesterday. I've mounted it on my D7000. As soon as I looked throughout the viewfinder for the first time, I could see a distinct difference over the 18-105 mm kit lens that came with my D7000. This lens is extremely sharp and fast. It's longer and heavier than the 18-105, but the results are well worth the added weight and length. I also like the sturdiness of the lens. It's a much better built lens and even has metal mounting, instead of the plastic mounting that kit lenses contain. I've had several DSLR's and never upgraded to a better lens, until now. This is a great lens, and will be the perfect supplement to my Nikon 16-85 mm, which will be delivered tomorrow. I just ordered it. I feel that the range of these 2 lenses will cover most of my shooting needs, although I am considering a macro lens.

Awesome lense!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially was worried I would spend so much money on this lense and not be happy with it. Turned out to be a great investment! I decided to skip over to this lense from the starter kit lense that came on the Nikon D3300. I use it for video and photo and the quality is amazing! Keep in mind that with this type of lense you do have to have some distance between you and your subject or else it will blur(since it is a telephoto lense) but that's not a reflection of the quality of the lense whatsoever. I took it on a road trip and took landscape shots while the car was in motion at high speeds and the shots were great! I have no regrets with this lense. I can certainly get some use out of it for sport or music events, landscape shots, and in many other occasions!

Fast and Long
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is awesome if you need to shoot from a long way away. It is fast to focus and easy to override. It is SUPER quiet and fairly solidly built. It is just heavy and when in 300mm it is LONG. But on a DX camera with the crop factor it is like having a 480mm lens! I have and do use it but I doubt that I will be taking it with me on any family outings.

Very nice zoom telephoto
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very pleased with this Nikon lens. I'm an amateur photographer, on my third Nikon back, but have never "splurged" before for a long Nikon lens, opting for other brands which did not last. A modern lens with modern VR is a great investment in your hobby to consider. This lens enabled me to get photos at a graduation ceremony recently that would have been unattainable otherwise in that large auditorium, and with ambient light. Still experimenting a little with the VR settings. The AF seems to be pretty quick.

Great investment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband recently purchased this lens for me after I had done much research on it. Our children are in sports and I wanted to be able to get that shot that everyone always wanted and it is working. We have another digital camera that is only a point and shoot and it does take good pictures, except it can not even come close to this lens and the quality of pictures it takes. This is a must have item with the Nikon digital cameras. It is a little expensive, but in the long run you will be happy that you have it. This lens is is easy to use and is pretty self explanatory. You do need to read the accompanied instruction booklet if you are not familiar with this sort of lens. I read it over and over!!! I would highly recommend this product for the up close and personal pictures of your children for sports or just for the simple every day pictures that you want to keep forever.

Great Lens for Long Range Shooting!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a great lens for the price, love the range you can zoom things in really good and take a great picture, This lens is great for Nature, Animals , anything afar where u cant walk up to and take a picture. This isnt a good camera for a wide angle shot as someone mentioned to take group shots it doesnt have a wide angle for that. Here is a nice Moon Shot i took with this camera..

Fabulous Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently used this telephoto zoom lens on a field trip for my Nikon D750 at a zoo and the experience was great. First of all, it is made out of superior glass which influenced me a lot and then to add to it the picture quality was pretty good as well. It is rugged but not too heavy. A wonderful lens to have and I strongly recommend it.

Excellent lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is awesome. I have the D version of this lens without the vibration reduction. What a difference VR makes. I was able to get some excellent shots of my son at his high school graduation without a tripod with this VR lens and they came out extremely sharp. I have been able to get some great shots of birds at my feeder without a tripod. It seems to take sharp pictures even in low light. It is heavier than the non-VR lens but balances well with my D70. I have very small hands and have not had any problems holding the lens. It is worth the extra money for VR!!!!!!!

Excellent lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this lens because it is compatible with FX cameras if I ever got to that point. I have shot a lot of sports with this lens with great results. The only knock is the variable aperture, 5.6 at 300mm doesn't give a lot of room for low/bad lighting conditions. I am now looking at an 80-200mm. But given the cost I think it might be a bit much for the average shooter. For shooting baseball, soccer, etc it works well but for hockey or night sports the 80-200mm is a better choice.

Getting Close
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The lens is a very useful lens for many situations. I used it recently at a little party and got great results and portraits from yards away. Even while my hand was shaking the VR countered it with clear and rich shots. It isnt a fast lens but is very good for those subjects you want to focus on. I've had it for a couple of days and am satisfied with it. It's not my primary but comes in handy for great shots. It's considerably heavy but the VR makes up for it and its silent inside focusing. Great lens.
