The camera I have purchased from Best Buy is great! I wish Best Buy would have put a sticker on the box to show the camera hasn't been open.

This is a great camera and it is almost perfect. What would make it perfect is it being a full frame camera, but I'm getting used to it.

I started out with a nIkon D7000, and recently upgraded to the D500. Let me tell you, if you shoot primarily wildlife, THIS IS THE CAMERA TO BUY!!!! Don't bother with full frame, as you get more reach to this camera, and 10 frames per second is amazing for bird photography

A camera that makes me learn

I have a D7100 and I like it, but I wanted something a little bit more professional, (using the same lenses that I already have, for now) specially for taking pictures of my children running & playing, since it is difficult to make a 3 years old to stay still looking at the camera... This camera is not for the amateur or casual user, but for those that really want to spend a lot of time reading manuals, tips, and experimenting, since is not as easy to use as the D7100. .

    Amazing Camera

Received this camera a few days ago and been having a blast with it! Amazing autofocus, great speeds, sounds like a machine gun going off when your taking 10 frames a sec. Over 95% of my pictures were in focus and sharp at 600mm with a Tamron 150-600 lens. The 3d tracking was spot on when trying to keep focus. Sure there are a few gimmicky things on the camera that I will never use (built in HDR shooting or white balance bracketing), but all in all, its an amazing camera for the price. I upgraded form the original Canon 7d, and can see a huge improvement!!

Fast Shooting but Slow Wifi and Tech Support

    Posted .

I bought a D500 to replace my D300 for multiple reasons, including faster operation, increased resolution, better autofocus on fast-moving wildlife, better low-light performance, and remote control through my smart phone. Except for the remote control by my iPhone, all of my performance requirements were met or greatly exceeded, as reflected in the other reviews; however, I found the wifi and bluetooth features on this camera to be so dysfunctional, including frequent connectivity drop-outs with my iPhone 6S, that I returned the camera for a full refund. I was able to pair the phone and camera and take photos, and found the live view through my phone a great feature, but the inability to reliably connect my phone to the camera was way overly frustrating. The response I received from Nikon's tech support is what sent me back for a refund: "Unfortunately, Nikon is still testing the compatibility with Snapbridge and the updated iOS 10.2. It is not recommended to use this application until the testing is completed." SnapBridge is a Nikon app and the only app available for the D500. When spending $2000 (body only) for a high end camera, I expect it to work perfectly all the time, so I will either wait until Nikon gets their act together or go buy a competitor's product.

    The best DX body

    Posted .

This is Nikon's best DX body and it really delivers. The 10 FPS shooting speed, build quality, and fast autofocus puts it in the same league as the top-of-the-line pro D4 / D5 bodies. Think of this as a "D5 mini". . The ergonomics and build quality is as solid as any of the best full frame Nikon pro bodies. The controls are positioned in a similar way as the pro bodies and I especially like the placement of the ISO button. The grip is a little deeper and lets me handle the larger pro lenses a little easier. The focus fine tune function is one of those "why didn't they do this before?" features for DSLRs. After making manual focus adjustments in Live View mode, you press 2 buttons and the camera will make the micro adjustment to exactly match the body and lens. Even the best lenses benefit from this feature and the resulting images are tack sharp. There really aren't many negatives to this camera. It's about the same price and same size / weight as the entry level full frame bodies. But I would skip the comparably priced full frame bodies and get the D500 because it's the next best thing to a D5.

    Good camera

I was using d800 and d810 for couple of years, and I like the D500. Autofocus a bit better then on d810, high Iso noise way better and it records 4K video. It was the reason why I personally bought this camera. I would say it's 95% of d810 in terms of Picture quality and dynamic range, but it adds very low high iso noise and 4K video. Definitely a good buy.

    Long awaited

Very happy with the D500. Tried the D7200 and it was not enough. I am upgrading from a D200 so the configuration is very similar. It has been an easy transition. ISO performance is amazing. Focus is spot on. Better with color. Oh wait I have video now. Auto focus in video is not great. Video is not the reason I bought the camera so not a big ding in my book. Nice to have though as an option. This is the camera I have been waiting for. I have invested in DX lenses so staying with a DX body made sense. I was not interested in changing glass. If I was buying new lenses I would have probably gone with the D750. No regrets here!
