  • General
    • Brand: Nikon
    • Model Number: 1559
    • Product Name: D500 DSLR Camera (Body Only)
    • Color: Black
    • Product Set: Body Only
    • Camera Model Family: Nikon D500
    • Digital Camera Type: DSLR Camera Body Only
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5568 x 3712 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: None (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG, RAW, TIFF (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/8000 to 30 sec. in steps of 1/3, 1/2, or 1 EV, Bulb, Time, X250 (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)
    • Maximum ISO: 51200 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. In low-light environments, using a higher ISO setting helps to capture a sharp, bright image.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 20 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: Aperture-priority (A), manual (M), programmed auto with flexible program (P), shutter-priority (S) and movie (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: false
    • Scene Modes: Aperture-Priority, Manual, Programmed auto with flexible program, Shutter-Priority (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto (3 types), Choose color temperature (2500K–10000K), Cloudy, Direct Sunlight, Flash, Fluorescent (7 types), Incandescent, Preset manual (up to 6 values can be stored, spot white balance measurement available during live view) (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.9 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • In-Lens Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. Lens stabilization means an element within the lens moves automatically to counteract detected motion.)
  • Flash
    • Integrated Flash: false
    • External Flash Mount: Hot Shoe (A cold shoe is a mounting point on top of a camera to securely attach a flash unit or other compatible accessories. A hot shoe is a cold shoe with an electrical connection that insures communication and synchronization between camera and accessory.)
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3.2 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Screen Resolution: 2359000 Dots (Screens come in a range of resolutions (measured in pixels, horizontal x vertical). The higher the resolution, the greater the picture quality.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Optical (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)
    • Viewfinder Magnification: 1 times (The measurement of the apparent size of the image in the viewfinder compared to how it would be seen with the naked eye.)

Q: Is this a US camera or grey market?

A: You are probably not going to get a gray market camera from a certified Nikon Dealer. They would be jeopardizing losing their dealer status plus lots of money from legal action from Nikon. If you are ever in doubt, with any seller, ask them for the serial number prior to shipment. Verify that is a legitimate serial number with Nikon. Once you receive your camera, verify the serial number on the camera, box, and pre-printed warranty slips from the box match.

Q: What does body only mean? No lense?

A: Nikon dslr camera's are sold either body only or in sets which includes lens. So in this case this camera (body only) does not include any type of lens, it will still include the accessories like battery, strap, body lens cover etc..

Q: When will tuhis be available to purchase

A: I have been watching the Nikon D500 for a month daily online. I went in to my local Best Buy (Rim - San Antonio, TX) on 5/11/2016, and they had received one that day. I purchased it on the spot.

Q: Will this shoot HDR in RAW? The 7200 does not.

A: Yes. I shoot RAW all the time and it will shoot HDR in RAW. You can also bracket up to 9 shots for an HDR composition if you want, way more than you need but it's there if you want it.

Q: Is this good for macro photography? What lense would you pair with it for macro photography?

A: Yes, the excellent auto focus system, high ISO performance, superior metering white balance, APS-C crop factor and tilting rear display make the D500 excellent for macro photography. The best lens depends on your subjects and your budget of course. I have the 60mm for flowers and Portraits.

Q: Is this a USA model?

A: Yes, the unit I got is a US Model. You should get a manual in English and Spanish. If no English manual it is not a good sign. However, you can down load one from Nikon.

Q: When shooting video, is it auto focus?

A: Yes, the D500 will autofocus while shooting video. That said, the microphones may pick up noise from the lens while in autofocus mode, so you may be better off using manual focus.
