It is the right tool for capturing those subjects at a distance and in some cases in motion. Amazingly sharp and details that will surprise you. Definitely recommend this lens. Looking forward to my next adventure.

I am very pleased with the Z 100-400 zoom. The lens is well balanced and easy to use with the 1/4 turn zoom ring covering the full range. This lens takes great photos, they are crisp and clear from corner to corner. The Bokeh is very nice, and the optical stabilization of over 5 stops is helpful.

A highly versatile option: an essential lens for travelers interested in wildlife. The most versatile range. A must-have lens in the bag for travelers who enjoy wildlife and landscapes.

Recently purchased a Nikon Z7 and wanted a z mount zoom lens. This lens performs up to expectations and more! The images are crisp and sharp. I am cery pleased with this purchase.

I bought this for wildlife photography and found it to be tack sharp when fully extended at 400mm. Also got the Nikon z 1.4 teleconverter to compliment this lens and found it keeps the integrity of this lens and doesn’t soften any details with the increase to 560mm. Alternatively the 180-600 is cheaper but it doesn’t have the soft bokeh this lens produces behind the subject, so pictures have a worse background. Don’t risk and then have regret, get the 100-400mm the first time!

This lens was added to our Z14-24mm S, Z24-70mm S and Z70-200mm S lenses. We also use the TC 2.0x teleconverter. We use these with a Nikon Z9 and a Z8, giving us multiple options for shooting wildlife and landscapes. The close focus is fantastic. A tripod does make the lens easier to use. The only thing we changed were the mounting foot on both the 70-200 and 100-400 so that they would mount on the Arca Swiss mounts without adapting plate.

This lens replaced my older AF-S 80-400mm lens I purchased years ago. The Nikon 100-400mm is sharper, handles better, and requires no adapter to work with the newer Z cameras. It has a very good minimum focusing distance and is extremely sharp from 100-350mm. Some people have complained that above 350mm it is not as sharp but I have recent examples that indicate to me if there is a sharpness dropoff, its not much and could be easily compensated for in post processing. This lens would work well for wildlife and birds when extended reach beyond 400mm is not needed. I haven't used it for landscape photography but I know many have purchased it soley for that purpose.
Even with a $400 rebate this lens is expensive compared to other alternatives, but for me it was worth the cost.

In short, an outstanding lens at any focal length that can also sports a minimum focus distance that allows it provide decent magnification as a macro lens. Focus is snappy and tracks well on my Z9.
I couldn't be happier with the performance of this compact, lightweight lens. This lens, along with my 14-30mm and 24-120mm zooms makes for a very compact and lightweight "S-Lens" kit that covers 24-400mm with some overlap...24-560mm with the addition of a 1.4X Teleconverter! Well done, Nikon!

I have been shooting with my Nikkor 200-400 f/4 over the last decade and purchased this lens as a lightweight alternative for an upcoming trip to Hawaii. Upon comparative testing using my Z9, the sharpness of this lens exceeds my 200-400 while weighing about 50% less. Very pleased with the purchase.

A must have lens that’s very versatile and tack sharp. I plan to use it for environmental wildlife capture. It compliments my Nikon 800 pf lens perfectly. Very pleased with its fast autofocus. Buy it. You won’t regret your decision. In addition It takes the 1.4 tc well.

Great lightweight lens that does it all. Has great bokeh across the full range, and impressively stable images even at 1/15 handheld. Moved from an FTZ-adapted F-mount 200-500mm and 70-200 f2.8 to this and have "no ragrets"

Excellent quality lens. Works great on my Z 8 camera. I use it for day time sporting events. Super fast focus and amazing photos throughout the zoom range.
