Great travel lens
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great travel lens. I got it because I wanted the range but not the weight of the 70-200 2.8. Now I can put one lens and go.

Excellent option
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good lens. However, I purchased the 70-200 2.8 S lens and did not need this focal length. But very good for an overall lens.

Good Superzoom
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are in the market for a wide to tele zoom and can live with the compromises, this one is pretty good. Good compared to what is a difficult question on the Z system right now, as you can really only compare it to F lenses or that of other systems. Sony E has the 24-240. Its $1050, and yet somehow manages to be one of the worst superzooms made in the last 20 years. Canon RF also has a 24-240 and its $900. That one is merely average. The Z 24-200 is light years ahead of both of those lenses. I directly compared this to the F 24-120 f4, F 18-300 f6.3, and Z 24-70 f4 (and previous ownership 28-300 f5.6 test shots I already had). The closest match is the F 24-120 f4. The Z 24-70 f4 is sharper, and better controls every other aspect such as vignetting, CA, flare, coma, focus breathing, and so on. The F 18-300 f6.3 and F 28-300 f5.6 is worse in basically every measure. That brings me to the F 24-120 f4, which is my favorite all around lens for F. The Z 24-200 and F 24-120 f4 are pretty close. Compared to the F 24-120 f4, it is a bit of a toss up. The F 24-120 f4 wins in IQ when viewed at normal magnifications. That lens just makes a noticeably better image and you can easily tell which one is which. It keeps that f4 through 120mm, and that is significant. While the overall sharpness tapers off a bit towards 120, keeping that f4 blurs the background better and you get a relative sharpness that makes your subject seem sharper than it really is. The Z 24-200 is simply not capable of that. However, when pixel peeping, you will be hard pressed to see the differences between these lenses 24-120mm. They are basically identical in every way when really magnified in. Center and corner sharpness, CA when wide open, some vignetting at 24, and so on. Overall, the F 24-120 f4 has slightly better overall IQ and keeps that f4 through 120mm. The Z 24-200 has mostly the overall IQ, 70mm of additional reach, better weather sealing, less focus breathing, silent focus, sometimes faster AF, better VR (all combined), no FTZ needed, and is lighter/smaller. Conclusion, it certainly beats all F superzoooms before it, and seems to beat all other superzooms currently on the market. It does not beat the F 24-120 f4 in overall IQ in my opinion. However, you gain so much beyond the F 24-120 f4 in other ways, that I think the Z 24-200 is a solid choice and replacement of that lens. The extra reach is great, and even in DX mode its pretty good. Although, it does not seem to crop in as much as other lenses that I often put in DX mode on my Z6 and this makes me a little suspicious. The better VR is a game changer, and no FTZ. It is bittersweet swapping this lens for my F 24-120 f4. I know a lot of people do not think highly of that lens, and maybe there were a lot of bad copies out there. I must have had literally the best copy ever made, and I acquired it second hand moderately worn. Go figure. At any rate, this is now my 6th Z lens and I am one step closer to leaving the F mount forever.

Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The review has nothing to do with the lens but the lack of knowledge by the sales person. I specifically asked if this lens would have enough zoom in for birding, and was assured it would. It didn't. Ended up returning the lens with a hefty restocking fee.

Not a good lens for Z6/7
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an entry level lens for Nikon Z series. Price is good but doesn’t like the aperture setting. Won’t suggest this lens.
