    Great machine, but needs space

This is a great multi-purpose drink machine. I found it to be very easy to use, and the options are abundant. I really like that it comes with permanent tea and coffee filters to stave off the extra expense of paper filters, that is a major bonus. The build feels nice, it's very sleek and adds a nice touch to my kitchen counter. When it makes the drinks it is fast and the frother works well for the latte side. the one downside that I have is that this needs a lot of space. Being that if you drink from the carafe the water tank needs to be refilled frequently you need enough side space to be able to pull it out and replace it easily. At the same time the frother is on the opposite side and that needs to be pulled out in order to be used. So you I either need to be sure that it has good clearance on both sides or be able to twist it and maneuver it on the counter. still, it's a great machine and I look forward to trying all the recipes provided in the recipe booklet!

This is an excellent unit, well thought out - in what is becoming a very crowded field of options. Plug it in and set the clock and you are pretty much ready to go. Hardware; A large water reservoir with large area to pour water in makes filling easy. But markings are on the side making it a tad difficult to see the fill markings. However, it does have a large “max” indicator which is easily seen from the top. You can always pop off the basket to fill. Big plus is separate coffee and tea brewing baskets so you don’t get cross taste contamination. Machine automatically senses which basket you are using and shows appropriate options. Also remembers which options you used last for each. This makes it very easy to change between coffee or tea brewing. Swing open the brew basket, set in the coffee or tea basket – close and ready to brew! Easy to operate using the 2 control dials. 1 for cup size and other to start/select and set strength and/or type of tea (herbal, black, oolong, white, green). Display is all digital with large easy to use/read cup size and strength indicators for coffee and tea brewing The carafe itself is heavily insulated and kept my wife’s coffee hot for over an hour. Also has a wide opening at top so when hand washing (not dishwasher safe) I was able to get my hand in to wash the inside easily. Not always the case with other carafes. One interesting difference from all coffee brewers I have used in the past is there is no hot plate to keep your coffee/tea hot if using carafe. This is a nice option as you don’t have to worry about your kids (or yourself) burning themselves. Not sure how it does cold brew so quickly but it seems to use suction? We didn’t try the frother…. Coffee brewing; You can use provided mesh filter or paper filters if you like – your choice. We always use the mesh filter. This is a nice step up from the Ninja CF021 coffee maker we were using. Just select your cup size, brew strength, press start and wait for it to finish brewing. Whether hot or cold brewing my wife found the coffee to always be smooth and delicious. Tea brewing; I drink tea not coffee so was really interested in how this unit would do brewing tea. One-word answer is “excellent”. So no more using the microwave for me…. I used higher end black and green loose-leaf tea and bags. ALL came out excellent whether using classic, rich, over ice or cold brew. No real downsides other than it is couple of inches taller than any coffee maker we have had before. So check your counter to cabinet height…

ok, so I love this Ninja coffee maker. has 2 nobs for controls and easy to use. frother works great, trick is to keep the tip just in the milk. I have not made my own espresso mochas or drinks since high school so this was fun to try. and what I remember was we had a grinder to grind our own beans, then we had to pack it into a cup for the machine. granted that way, the coffee did come out a tad better. however I was impressed with the ninja machine because I just use foldgers coffee out of a can (medium) and it tasted just as good. did not have to pack it in either. frother I was able to take 1/3 of a cup of milk in a mug and froth it to fill the cup. then I added that with the coffee along with some choco syrup and a little sugar and it was better then going to buy a 8 dollar or so mocha from a stand. and it did not take to much time either. frother took about 30 seconds and then maybe a couple min for the coffee. I love that it can do single cups small or large, to go mugs, and a half or full pot. love that if you do a cup that it has a stand that folds down for you to place your mug on. the machine auto closes for you when its done as far as drip goes. you can also set this your self if you wish with a push of a button. my only complaint and its not really a complaint, but come on Ninja, where is the travel mug lol. ok that was it. so used to Ninja blender where you get a couple travel cups. or no option to be able to use a k-cup. so overall I recommend this machine. its a bit pricey but then again espresso machines are. I love it and cant wait to continue to make my own drinks from now on with the benefit that I can now make them to my taste and not pay an arm and a leg.

    Only one complaint...

This is a really nice coffee maker. Although not normally a cold coffee person, nor a tea drinker, I like having the option especially if guests are over. As for hot coffee brewing, our machine will stay at FULL POT, NORMAL BREW 90% of the time but for those one-off situations where we just need a thermos or someone is gone from the house and we just need a half pot, the Ninja helps make the perfect "small batch" with just the turn of a knob. Given I despise the K-cup concept (crappy taste, exorbitant waste), it is nice to be able to make just a cup or thermos without having to cave to the K-cup faction. It took a second or two to figure out the machine but in the end, it really is as simple as your basic "Mr. Coffee" when it comes to standard operation. You fill an easily removable side reservoir with water (nicely marked for cup, thermos, big thermos, half pot, full pot, max, etc.), you measure coffee into a reusable basket/filter using the "on-board coffee scoop," you press go and wait about 6 minutes. Boom! (Hot) Coffee!!! The features are easy to adjust with a knob to select the serving size (cup, thermos, full pot, etc.) and the drink type (normal, rich, over ice, cold or specialty). There is a "tea leaf" button to switch to tea brewing and a separate set of baskets for brewing tea. A quick check of the website indicates there are reasonably priced replacement parts should something break. Because this unit comes with a thermal carafe, there is no heating element (warming plate) to have to worry about shutting off...or to accidentally spill coffee onto and burn. Coffee stays plenty hot for quite a while (my wife pours her cup nearly 2 hours after I brew and says it is still hot). Speaking of the pour, the carafe is well designed and DOES NOT DRIBBLE! Although not dishwasher safe, it is stainless steel and is easy to rinse out before next use. And if you want a deep clean, there is an automatic setting to clean the machine that takes about 60 minutes. Lastly, there is a "delay brewing" setting that is essentially your programmable timer. It is not a "delay brewing by X hours" but rather a true "delay brewing until 6:45a" timer. One feature we played with immediately was the milk frother. Our previous coffee maker was a coffee/cappuccino/espresso maker that had a steamer on the side. This frother is not a steamer, but that is fine. Just throw some milk in the microwave for 45 seconds then let the frother whip it up for you. Less chance of getting splashed by hot steam and easier clean-up as the whole frother disconnects with a simple quarter turn for washing. And so far, the coffee has tasted GREAT! As for the one complaint (or rather "feature enhancement"): The carafe does not have a window to see how much coffee is left in the pot. Nor is there any fancy setting for the pot to calculate remaining coffee in the pot (i.e. by weight of carafe...or laser beams...or other cool technology). If that is an issue for you, get the model with the glass pot. It would be nice if Ninja had a window or similar means to check the remaining quantity in the carafe without unscrewing the top to peek inside. Technically I have one other "improvement" idea: The drink size selector uses generic icons for a small cup, a big cup, a travel mug, etc. While I couldn't tell you how many ounces my travel mug holds, I know it is "maybe a bit more than a can of soda." What I don't know by looking at the coffee maker is how many ounces they assume will fit in my travel mug. My initial fear was that I would overflow my travel mug and have a mess on my hands. Why couldn't they just put the .oz inside the serving size selector icons? (For the record, a full pot is 50 oz., XL travel mug is 18 oz., normal travel mug is 14 oz., XL cup is 11.5 oz. and normal single serve cup is 9.5 oz. This information is available in the user manual.) Everything about the Ninja Hot/Cold with Thermal Carafe is spectacular so far. The coffee is great, the brewing choices are abundant, and the machine itself seems to be high quality. You don't need to spend a ton of time with the owners manual to figure out how to use it but at the same time, you'll want to read up on it to know what options are available to you. We are very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a higher-end, multi-purpose, multi-option coffee/tea maker.

This thing will make 1 -2 cups of coffee and then you'll be required to clean it. The cleaning process is machine driven and requires white vinegar or "special" $20 cleaning fluid from Ninja. You CAN NOT skip or by pass the cleaning process and it takes a full hour each time. I have had this for less than a month and we have been asked to clean it 9 times. A $200 chore is all this thing is. Avoid at all costs.

I thought I had a great coffee maker until this bad boy put all others to shame. Beautifully designed, simple to program and use with a killer hot/cold function and a carafe that no kidding keeps it hot for 2 hours off the burner. Oh yeah, the quality of coffee brewed is excellent, not French press but darn close! This unit does not disappoint!

Features of this coffeemaker really snuck up on me

The features of this coffeemaker really snuck up on me…because it’s a Ninja? Get it? Must not have had enough caffeine. Anywho, this is a very nice machine, and I should know. I had 4 coffeemakers at one time before. I didn’t get to unbox it; that was my wife. I’m not sure how it was wrapped or packaged, but it looks great sitting on the kitchen counter. As it is, the biggest complaint I have is on where to store the accessories. The Ninja bills itself as a one-stop shop for making hot or iced beverages, and I have to believe it. There are certainly some specialized tools included in the purchase. It comes preset for coffee making, so you’ll have to find somewhere to stash the insert for the brewing of tea, although, I’m not sure who drinks tea, because, well, tea. Also included is the frother of milk for those bourgeoisie drinks, like lattes and cappuccinos, again, with nowhere to store it that makes sense. Where the frother attaches folds nicely away and flush with the unit so that it’s not sticking out like an eyesore, but the attachment is rather inconvenient. There is also the measuring spoon, which is awesome. It’s color-coded for coffee versus tea, and it’s labelled with words and pictographs to ensure you don’t screw up adding the correct amount of material needed for your preferred drink. It stores very nicely in a custom cubby on the side. Finally, the filter for coffee is already installed. It, like the tea filter, are color-coded as well, and it’s a very nice metal permanent filter, although paper filters can be used. It’s very easy to clean out. I like that. Making a drink is relatively straightforward. Use the aforementioned measuring scoop to dole from the supply of grounds to the filter of choice. If the unit has been sitting for a while, it will be in sleep mode. You have to hit the power button to wake it up, or else you’ll be in a caffeine-deprived rage wondering why the knobs and buttons don’t do anything. Don’t be fooled by the fact the clock is on, either. If you drink coffee, congratulations, the world is your oyster. The unit is preset to dispense the nectar of the gods. You’ll have to manually select the “tea” button to change styles. Rotate the top knob to select your drink size. I’m immune to the effects of too much caffeine, so all I’ve made so far is the full carafe. From what I understand, though, even a single cup can be done; there’s a nifty shelf that folds out in the carafe area so your puny mug doesn’t get splashed while being filled. Once the size is chosen, and be sure to choose well, you can use the bottom knob to select how you want your drink prepared. Classic does a fantastic job, and rich will definitely maintain any flavors from being overwhelmed by additives, such as milk, or, *shudder*, creamer. Push the start button, hidden in the middle of the top knob, to begin. Don’t fret if it takes a few moments, especially the first couple of times you use it, to actually reassure you that it’s working correctly by making the proper noises. Now that you’ve successfully waited for your reward, just pull the carafe, or other drink holder of choice, from the dispensing area, and enjoy. Both my wife and I took a second look at the carafe when pouring. There’s no pointy area to direct where the coffee is going, and there’s nothing to say where the coffee will actually come from. Fear not, my friend. You are of the coffee-drinking type, and nothing will deter you from enjoying your beverage. Just pour; the lid on the carafe is set up in such a way that it pours nicely without any spillage. Once complete, cleanup is a snap. Pull up on the water reservoir, which, by the way, is nicely molded to provide a firm grip when filled, and fill it. What did you think you were going to do with it? The lid to the reservoir has a double hinge, so it folds out of the way completely, avoiding those nasty splash-backs. The lid to the carafe spins right off, and both are ready to clean. Man hands won’t fit in the carafe to clean out the inside, so having a proper prior plan will prevent poor performance in the sterilization department. There is a tube attached to the lid of the carafe to allow the coffee to pour that has to be cleaned, so having a plan for that will work well, too. Overall, this is a very nice machine. The multiple brew styles, serving sizes, and the fact that it’s completely ready to go, minus the 2 rinse cycles, is a huge plus. If having somewhere to stash your accoutrements, and not being able to fit your giant hand inside a small opening will propel you into a rage, then don’t even think about making this a purchase for yourself. It will make a great gift, though.
