Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the Foodi 5-in-1 Indoor Grill's ease of use, multi-functionality, and the air fryer feature. They appreciate that it is simple to operate and clean, and that it allows them to cook a variety of foods with little to no smoke. However, some customers find the appliance to be on the heavy side and wish the air fryer had a larger capacity. Cleaning it can also be a bit of a chore.

    Another Winner from Ninja

It actually works as described. I've tried several of the recipes in the book that accompanies the grill and all of them are pretty close to spot on. Trial and error for cooking times, definitely a learning curve depending on cooking temperature and meat thickness. The grill is large enough to cook four large pieces of meat without crowding and does put on a nice sear without overcooking or drying out. A high smoke point oil such as Avocado is a must to keep smoke to a minimum as well as having an instant read thermometer/temperature probe for verifying when the meat is done. My only complaint is the minor difficulty cleaning the grill grate if sauces are used and get baked on. Otherwise, a great indoor grill that will see plenty of use especially once the Pacific Northwest weather kicks in.

Awesome grill even if you CAN grill outside

Normally I would start my review by saying this is a great grill but obviously grill outside if you can. I don't know how true that is with this grill, though. The ease of setup and ease of cleanup and versatility of this indoor grill would probably keep me grilling inside even if we had a grill outside. I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I feel like that's the case. Setup was pretty easy. Plug it it. Give all the included pieces a quick wash with soap and you're ready to go. The instruction booklets give you a good starting out point so we cooked up a couple of steaks right away. The timing given by the instruction booklet was a little high for the steaks we had so I'd definitely maybe cut the time in half (they weren't huge thick steaks or anything) next time, but even if they were cooked a little more than I normally would like them, they still turned out fine. That's kind of the whole thing with this grill. It's just trying out recipes and adjusting your times based on experience. It doesn't take long either because we've been using it for about a week and I feel like we have a pretty good grasp on it already. We've cooked chicken breast, burgers, turkey burgers and steaks on the grill and they've all turned out really well. But another great part about this grill is that it's not just a grill! I baked some bacon wrapped, cream cheese stuffed chicken that turned out really well and was even able to skip the step where I broil it at the end because the bacon doesn't get crispy. Turned out great in less time than I normally would bake it. I haven't tried the air fryer yet just because I haven't had anything to fry but we have the Ninja pressure-cooker that also has an air fryer so I assume it works similarly well. I also need to get the dehydrator piece to give that a test but I'm excited to try it. Cleanup! Oh boy is cleanup so nice! It comes with a little, semi-soft brush that does an amazing job. I don't really know what else there is to say about it. Cleanup takes a minute. Even if it's left dirty overnight, the non-stick surfaces are really nice and just wipe clean with the brush really quickly. That's really all I can say about it. Cleanup is one of the reasons I think I'll use this more often just so I don't have to worry about it. Overall, I don't give a lot of 5-star reviews. I usually give good products 4 stars because there's always room for improvement. But this thing, the ONLY thing I can find wrong with it is that the cooking surface can be a little small depending on what you're trying to cook. For a full family of 4 or 5, you might need to cook half at a time. For 2 people, it's pretty perfect. I really like it and can't wait to see what else I can think of to cook in it. If it's in your budget, I can't recommend it enough.

Made my purchase with a very helpful young man. Left and went directly across the street to Sams Club where the exact same appliance was selling for more than a $100 dollars less. Not happy.. Difference in price is extreme. Best Buy is my go to place. I am 74 years old and I don’t shop until I drop. Very disappointed. Going to have to think about my shopping with you now. We all have our tried and true places that we are comfortable and appreciate the young people and their knowledge..

Versatile high heat multi function machine

I was pleasantly surprised by this machine. Usually when something is described as 5 in 1, it rarely does one thing well. This actually proves that wrong. I think the thing that separates this machine from others is that it can get really hot (just over 500 degrees). That is so nice to have, because you can use it only for a few minutes to make a pizza and not heat up your entire kitchen. It is important to note that when cooking at these high temperatures, they recommend using an oil with a high smoke point. I used avocado oil and didn’t have any problems when I seared and roasted some root vegetables. I found the air fry to work really well, too. Making French fries and mozzarella sticks worked well and cleaned up easily. This is a great machine to have, as it it is so versatile yet doesn’t take up much counter space (and is small enough to store in a 15” deep cabinet).

Living in Chicago, ‘grilling season’ isn’t all that long, but with the Ninja indoor grill, that problem is over. You can have the same taste as from an outdoor grill, whatever the weather. Plus the ‘air fryer’ feature is amazing as well. The first night we grilled chicken breast filets. Following the recipe in the included book we popped the grill grate into the unit, brushed a little canola oil on the filets, placed them on the grill after preheating. Then grilling for a little less than 20 minutes, flipping over once. They came out perfectly with a slightly crispy grilled coating and moist inside. Hamburgers the second night. Just placed the burgers on the grill for about 5 minutes, no flipping needed as per the recipe. Perfect again. The third night I tried the air fryer. I love fried clams and the texture was never right in the past when cooking them in the toaster oven. We put the crisper basket in the unit, preheated, then dropped in the frozen clams and cooked for half the time as suggested on the box, just nine minutes. Wow, they tasted like the clams I used to get at Howard Johnson’s! (older readers will remember this, lol) I can’t wait to try out other recipes in the book and maybe experiment a little as well. Even though there wasn’t much smoke at all from the unit, the only negative I could report is there is SOME (even using canola oil instead of vegetable oil as specified). At first, we had placed the unit on the counter directly under the upper cabinets and realized maybe we could find a better location for the grill, as the little smoke that was there, was seeping up under them. Outside of this, everything was great including clean up, virtually all the parts (except the unit itself, of course) can be placed in the dishwasher. A special brush is included if you want to wash the parts in the sink. It’ll be especially fun this winter enjoying grilled food inside with the snow blowing outside and the temperature around zero. True indoor grilling is here at last.

Grilling without the fuss of propane or charcoal

The Foodi 5-in-1 Indoor Smokeless Air Fry Electric Grill by Ninja allows you enjoy amazing grilled meats without the need for using a propane or charcoal grill and you can grill all of your favorite meats indoors. No need to worry about having enough propane or charcoal on hand, or having to slay over a grill outside on a hot summer day. When using the Indoor Smokeless Air Fry Electric Grill by Ninja, you have the ability to cook under 5 different settings: Grill, Air Crisp, Dehydrate, Roast, and Bake. This review will be focusing on the Grill option exclusively. Initial unboxing and setup was relatively straight forward. The one thing that you will need to make sure that you have is enough space for the grill, as the form factor is comparable to a small outdoor grill. When cooking, we observed a small bit of smoke, but nothing in comparison to using an actual grill, so that was pretty good. One the the best features of this grill is the fact that you don't have to actively watch the food or flip stuff over. Smaller items such as burgers or fish filets can be cooked properly thanks to the superheated airflow that surrounds the food. Overall, another EXCELLENT product from Ninja. With winter right around the corner, I look forward to being able to grill some nice cuts of ribeye steaks without standing out in the cold for an extended period of time.

Powerful Ninja Addition to the Kitchen

The Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 grill came packed efficiently in a box big enough to let you know a real appliance has arrived. Even out of the packaging, please note--it's heavy. It's not a cheezy all-plastic gimmick with metal cooking surfaces you'll abandon after a few uses. At least not in my opinion. The Ninja line has been a quality line of kitchen and home products and this baby looks like no exception. It comes with a base pan which always has to be used, and a heavy grill insert, and a "crisping basket." The base pan is about 10" by 10" and 4 to 5 inches deep. There are other pans and cooking racks available for it also. It comes with a nice little scrub brush for cleaning the grill and basket. All cooking parts are well-coated with a non-stick surface. My first experiment was grilled zucchini. I had alreay planned on cooking it before the Ninja arrived so it was marinated in olive oil and spices--which the directions advise you *not* to use due to the smoke. (*Use regular cooking oils.) I had parked the Ninja on the counter next to the stove and had the vent fan on anyway, and the smoke was minimal even with the olive oil. I followed the directions and set the unit on high to grill, and it said to preheat everything. It was very hot when it told me to add the food on the display, and the squash started sizzling right away. I set the timer for 10 minutes. It could have been done in about 7 or 8. The grill did make nice "grill marks" on the vegetables. And while a bit overdone (I made the spears too small possibly) they were cooked evenly. Next time, 7 minutes. Next I tried garlic bread on the air crisp cycle. Again they wanted you to preheat the unit before adding the food. I cheated and put it in first anyway. When the preheat was done and the display showed, ADD FOOD, I checked--and the toast was done-perfectly! So I would think if you preheat like they say, the toast would have taken 2 minutes or so. For the third test I cooked a pork tenderloin on the Roast cycle. By default it heats to 375 and after preheat is set to cook for 14 minutes. It cooked a 24 oz roast in 23 minutes, and it was actually slightly overdone (no fault of the Ninja--I was late checking the meat temperature. It was nicely browned and cooked evenly.) Next time I will experiment with a lower cooking temperature. It's not as noisy as another brand large-capacity air fryer I have. And not as odor-producing. The Ninja has a grease trap screen assembly of sorts that easily pops out of the underside of the lid that they recommend you clean every time you cook with it also. This appliance seems well-engineered and quality constructed, and was easy and fun to use. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes cooking, especially if you want to do it in less time.

After using my Ninja Foodi Grill for the past week, I am left stunned at how good it is at cooking one thing. And that is also its highest negative. I've cooked steaks and chicken fillets and they've come out superbly cooked and juicy and done so quickly. But what happens if I also want to air fry some fries or tater tots to go along with it for a complete meal? Or what if I decide to air fry the potato products I can't also do my Chicken in there as well. I've never owned an air fry product so I have no baseline as to know whether this product is truly remarkable or not. I just know that the air fried products I have done have been spectacular and done so in a rather quick fashion compared to oven baked actions. To truly love this product to its fullest, I can see having to own two of them and to use them to cook the protein and the side product nearly simultaneously (or as timing would permit). If I could have an entire meal using the components all cooked in this, this would be culinary heaven. This product is that good. I cooked hamburgers in this and they were really delicious as well. But the problem was that I also wanted fries with my burger and I'd have to resort to the awful oven to have them cooked or I'd have to cook the fries in the air fryer of the grill and then undercook them and to put them into the oven to keep them hot while I fired up the grill again to get the unit hot enough for the burgers. And trying this several times resulted in subpar meal items. If I were to build the ultimate NInja grill, I'd have the unit as it is with a smaller side air fryer combo that would allow for superb items cooked the foodi way. Alas, the choice is to cook one part of the meal the foodi way and to suffer cooking the other portion the old fashioned way - a cast iron skillet for the steak, burgers, or chicken. And that makes a very expensive air fryer if you ask me. Or I can cook the proteins and fix rice or mashed potatoes and wish I'd had something air-fried. Make no mistake here - this product is awesome. And I want more!

I gotta tell you I am really impressed with this baby! I was able to do a complete backyard cookout in my kitchen. Everything from hamburgers to steaks came out perfect. I must admit I was skeptical but The Foodi Grill sears and lock in all the flavor of the meats. I was amazed at how quickly and thoroughly it cooked steak. This a must for any grillmaster or just a regular foodie like me. Easy instructions and cook times make it foolproof. And controls are simple and easy to understand. Do yourself a favor and get this now.

I received my Ninja Foodie Grill last week on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. So far, I have completed the following meals: Meal 1- The Barbecue Chicken Breasts, page 20. I used frozen chicken breasts, followed the recipe exactly as written. I did not do the last 3-minute cook, as I was sure that the chicken was done at that point. Results: The taste was very good, the sauce was excellent! However, the chicken was a bit dry. Next time, I will use fresh chicken breasts! Meal 2- Classic Cheeseburgers, page 16. I used 80/20 ground beef. again, followed the recipe exactly as written. Results: The burgers were good, although a bit on the rare side. I used the Medium Well temp of 145 degrees F. I fixed 4 burgers, we ate 3 and I put the other one in the fridge for later. Meal 3- French Fries with Parmesan and Garlicky Mayo, page 47, fixed the meal exactly as written. Results: Cooking the fries (I used crinkle cut) this long was BAD! They were VERY dry and overcooked! ( I later cooked more fries at only 10 minutes, they were EXCELLENT!) The sauce, however, was amazing! Really tasty and it had a real zing to it! Meal 4- I went back 2 days later and took the cheeseburger from above, and cooked it again. I started the grill and cooked it from the original directions. Checked it at 3 minutes, it was still cold, checked it at 6 minutes, still not done, so let it cook for 8 and 1/2 minutes, total. It was the BEST, HANDS DOWN CHEESEBURGER I HAVE EVER EATEN! It was amazing! Next time, I will opt for a higher temp and check it until I think it is done the way I like it! Do I like my new Ninja Foodie Grill? ABSOLUTELY! This device is like any other device you buy, you have to use it, get used to it, perhaps modify here and there, but you will get EXCELLENT results! p.s. I am still thinking about that cheeseburger!! LOL!

    Good option for grilling indoors

Upon opening the box, I cleaned everything, inserted the splatter shield, and started using the grill. As a matter of fact, I was able make use it every day. I did some batch cooking that was very convenient. I did not get a chance to use the Roast or Dehydrate options. Some of the foods I cooked turned out better than I expected while others fell short of my expectations. I am not sure if I cooked them for too long or at too high of a temperature. Product Features: • Surround searing means you don’t have to flip the food • Cooked food gets authentic grill marks from the grate • The ability to char-grill food that is frozen • Combines a grill with an air fryer • Has the ability to roast, bake and dehydrate foods • Four grill control settings (low, medium, high, max) • Optional accessories for purchase (roasting rack, griddle, veggie tray, dehydrate rack) What I liked about the Foodi Grill is: 1. When you use the grill, you set the grill setting and the cook time. The preheat function automatically kicks in. However, you can bypass preheating by pressing Air Crisp. 2. Once it hits the desire temperature, the grill tells you to add the food. For someone who multitasks in the kitchen, I like the fact that the timer function doesn’t start until the top is raised and the food is added. 3. If you notice your food is cooking faster than you expected, adding or removing time from the timer is easy. 4. The grill plate and crisper basket are easy to clean. The brush that is included is very useful. 5. You can use a variety of high smoke point oils to cook with: canola, coconut, avocado, grapeseed. *Olive oil is not recommended. 6. The Grilling cheat sheet offers common foods with the grill setting and cooking time (includes frozen and fresh options for proteins) with a cooking tip. 7. The recipe booklet offers lots of good ideas with the cooking charts. What I didn’t like about the Foodi Grill: 1. My model did not come with kebab skewers. 2. I didn’t notice the grill taste. 3. The stainless-steel wrap exterior gets hot when in use making it difficult to move the grill to add food, so be sure you place it on the counter in an accessible place from the start. 4. After use, it will take time for the grill, basket, cooking pot to cool before you can clean them. 5. While I like the included resources, my aging eyes would love it if the font size were larger for the text. My results using the Foodi Grill: Hot dogs – great Grilled veggies (zucchini, green peppers) – great Frozen veggie burger patties – great Salmon – great Shrimp - good Chicken – overcooked and tough French fries in the crisper – overcooked for me, but my husband likes them that way I did a field test with corn on the cob. I grilled 2 ears on my outdoor grill, 2 ears in the oven, and 2 ears in the Foodi grill. The ones on the outdoor grill turned out the best. The ones in the oven came in second place based on texture. The kernels on the ones cooked in the Foodi grill came out mushy and lost their puffed up appearance. I cooked them for less than 12 minutes as recommended and they still seemed overcooked. My next comparison tests will be cooking bacon (grill, air crisper, oven) and pizza (outdoor grill, indoor grill, oven). I have an outdoor natural gas grill. After testing out the Foodi Grill, I will still continue to use the outdoor grill when the taste is important. Otherwise, I plan to cook with the Foodi Grill as it is very convenient. I have some work with figuring out the precise cook time and grill setting for the desired results, but I think it will be worth it. I think the Foodi Grill is a good option when cooking for 2-3 people using one appliance or for those who cannot have an outdoor grill and don’t have an air fryer already.

I had a chance to unpack the Ninja electric grill and I was impressed by it's ease of use. The fryer itself looks and feels very durable and I like the grill grate. It's a very simple design, electrically heated coil with an airflow. I wish it was a little smaller but when it comes to quality of the design and performance it worked GREAT! The buttons and control optiosn were very simple to use, no complicated operating instructions. Set the temp, timer and load the food! The maiden dish was frozen chicken nuggets, simple enough and a perfect test. I was pleasantly surprised, they were done in AIR FRYER mode in 6 minutes and they were crunchy! actually crunchy and not burnt or overly charred edges! The only word of advice is since most food does not have air fryer instruction for preparing then you must check on it occasionally. Be careful when estimating cook times because using typical oven time does not translate when using the Air Fryer.

Ninja Foodi Grill - Char? There's no char!

I really like Ninja appliances and find them to be generally well-made and useful. This Ninja Foodi Grill is fantastic - in concept. One unit that roasts, grills & chars, air fryer, bakes, dehydrates and more. It comes with a holding pot, a grilling pan, an air fryer basket and a cleaning brush. Some things work great - air fryer for tater tots & frozen fries - that works quickly and very well. Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Cleanup is fantastic. Everything is non-stick. But everything I read had the word "char" and that's what got me. I live in an apartment and I have nowhere to grill and I love a good charred steak! I bought 2 ribeye steaks and grilled them on the Ninja grill plate. They was absolutely no char - yes there are grill marks from the grill plate but grill marks are not char. The steak came out tough and boring. A huge disappointment. I also tried turkey burgers. Not a lot of fat content but they came out very well. They shrunk a lot but we're so moist for turkey burgers. In the end, this is a very large and very heavy unit that takes a lot of counter space that I just don't have. It came with 3 inserts but they don't all stack inside the grill for storage. And there is nowhere to wrap or store the cord which is not detachable. And it does NOT char meat. The concept in theory is good, but for me, in practice, it's not good enough and it's going to go back to the store. For the price, unfortunately, I would not recommend this unit.

First off let me tell you I love Ninja products, I have many of them and have zero complaints.I have a few for this one though. This may be better suited for a single person or a couple with limited options for grilling, maybe a place with horrible weather? I will for sure use a outdoor grill over this grill. But the other functions are great! We started off with something simple, chicken kebobs, they were grilled to perfection but I could only fit two in there, or four "mini" skewers which is still two skewers in my book. The grill heats up quickly and has almost no smoke as described. The dehydrator works great and I made some jerky and sun dried tomatoes that both turned out amazing. This will be my go to for making bacon as well, toss it in and no more bacon splatter all over the place, I have splatter shields but this makes life tons easier and it cooks up quick. My frustrations come with the included inserts that don't stack nor can they be all inserted into the grill so the lid can be closed. Also there is no cord management, this is very aggravating, a retractable cord or a couple tabs to wrap the cord around would not be hard to incorporate into this grill. Even a detachable cord you could unplug toss into the grill would work. Cleaning was quick and easy each time.
