This is a great blender at what I would consider the mid-tier level (low tier sub $75, mid tier $75-$250, high tier above $250). The look is very sleek and modern and the lid has both a nice locking mechanism that has to be closed to start the mixer, as well as a spout to help pour thinner mixes without spilling everywhere. The one complaint I do have with the lid is that its not always really clear when the spout is locked close. There have been a number of times when I thought it was closed but it wasn’t all they way down and it started to leak as soon as I turned the blender on. Luckily it was a simple pressing down on the spout and it closed up tight within a second and didn’t make too much of a mess. Also, the seal in the lid doesn’t spill, but it has a few layers that liquid does push between. This means that you can fill it with water and a bit of soap and run it to clean it quickly as you change between flavors of drinks you may be mixing for a crowd. However, there will always be just a little residue in the lid which could transfer a bit of flavor. The blender really needs to be washed in the dishwasher or fully submerged to get rid of any flavor or smell. Which leads to my only complaint about the blender’s instructions. It says that its dishwasher safe for the top rack only. The problem is that the main pitcher is too tall for the top rack of any dishwasher I’ve ever used. Typically when a company says this, the issue is heat from the element on the bottom causing things to be too warm and damaging the item. I turned off some of the functions of my dishwasher to reduce the overheating risk and wash it on the bottom rack without problems, but depending on your dishwasher you may have an issue fitting it on the top rack and may be stuck washing this by hand if your bottom rack would damage it. While I didn’t find all the added accessories useful, one thing I love is that it has both a full sized mixing pitcher and a smaller cup sized blender option. Previous to this blender I just had a smaller cup sized blender since 90% of the blending I do is in smaller amounts that just don’t work well in full sized blender. I never really wanted to have two whole setups so I just didn’t get a full sized blender. With this I get both sizes I want without as much space being taken up in my cupboards. I like the cup and it’s a very powerful little blender, but I honestly would have preferred a slightly smaller option as well, but you can’t get everything. It works as well as the $50 competitor that I had before so I don’t really have much of a complaint there. It also comes with a smoothie bowl cup. This is like your normally cup with an insert that rotates as you turn the dial at the top. The idea is that it keeps thicker things from sticking to the sides and top just above the spinning blades. If you’ve ever done a thicker blend in a cup blender and had the experience where you get an air bubble around the blades and have to stop it to tap down the contents and restart, then you know what I’m talking about. The cup works well to keep things blending, but it doesn’t scrape really closely to the sides so you still get a little less mixed stuff stuck around the edge. I think this works really well if you just need something knocked down until its blended enough that it can use the force of the spinning liquid to pull stuff off the side, but if it’s truly really thick, you still really need to pull it off and shake the cup and restart your blending. I consider this one more of a gimmick than anything, so I wouldn’t pay a bunch more for just this cup but it has its uses so I like that is was thrown into this set. The full sized pitcher is where the blender really shines. The standard blending/chopping blade has 3 levels of blades running up the blender. I noticed that this really helped to keep things moving and blends quickly without the air bubble around the blade issue. It also really helps chop things like a food processor without getting a large hopping veggie that dances above the blades. This lets it really chop a lot like a food processor instead of getting a mixture of juice and oversized chunks like I did with other full sized blenders that only have the since layer of 4 blades that you see in lower end blenders. This is a real plus since I think I can get rid of my food processor and use this instead which saves me a bunch of room in my kitchen. The blending is also really powerful. I’m not much of a smoothie fan, but the few I’ve done worked great and the end result was smooth without any chunks or strings in it. The obvious trade off is that this is actually a fairly loud blender. I know all blenders are loud, but this seams to be louder than most. Its powerful enough that it blends quickly so its not loud for very long, but if you have any special concerns about the volume of your blender, you may want to try it out first to see if you are ok with it. I’ve been doing a lot of slushy type drinks. My kids love it when I fill the blender to ice, then add a few scoops of country time powder mix, then water to fill in the gaps of the ice. In just over a min we have lemonade slushies that rival any professional ones you would get in a 7-11 or other convenience store. Despite it being almost completely ice, the blender never stalls, sticks or jams and never has any indication of any trouble reducing large cubes to slush. I even had one night that I forgot to thaw a can of frozen concentrate juice. I just cut a slit in the side of the can and unwrapped the frozen juice and added it to the blender with some cold water. The result was a completely blended juice that was a little slushy and a bit foamy, but by the end of 10 minutes it sat while my kids were finishing setting the table and getting ready to eat, the foam had settled, the ice had melted and the juice was perfect without having to worry about thawing the concentrate out first. They give you a dough blade to mix baked goods. I decided to give it a try to see how good it is. This I think is also a bit of a gimmick. I first tried zucchini bread from their recipe book. It was pretty awful. I gave the mixer a benefit of the doubt and tried banana bread next from one of our family recipes. It was ok, but not great. The blender just mixes things too much and the dough blade doesn’t get in there right so it needs to run too long to get it fully incorporated. The end result was just over worked but it did an OK job. We tried cookies and it worked ok, but it does a pretty small batch and you have to mix the chocolate chips in by hand at the end anyway so it wasn’t work the effort in my opinion. I still need to try a yeast dough to see if something that is supposed to be kneaded more will work out better, but again the size of the blender is relatively small, so I don’t know if it will be worth it. I may find more uses for it in the future, but as of right now the dough blade will probably just stay in the cupboard. Overall I really like this blender and would easily recommend this to a friend.
