Customers praise the NES Classic Edition's game selection, ease of use, small size, and the inclusion of HDMI for modern TVs. Positive comments also highlight the nostalgic appeal and affordable price. However, a common complaint centers on the short controller cord length. Overall, the system is seen as a fun and easy-to-use retro gaming experience.

If you like retro gaming in a neat little package, with a short cord and one controller leaving you to buy another or play alone, and you can afford such items, then go for it. Else join everyone else playing fortnite. I hear some people are still looking around for pokemons.

I was finally able to get my hands on one of these after a year. OMG I haven't had this much fun in a while. A great way to relive my youth and also remember how hard video games used to be lol. I only wish they had more games built in or a way to access more games.

This is a must have for any Nintendo fan. Even if you have an NES and many of the games here (like myself) this is a great device to turn on easily and play. For $60 you can't beat this--and the new ability to save games makes some of the more difficult games on here more manageable.

There's nothing better like the old classic to bring the family together for a fun night. My niece and nephew love trying the "new games", and I am getting as frustrated as ever trying to remember just how we beat them all in the first place

caveats

Nintendo missed an opportunity to include more high-quality games that don't require fast reflexes:
Adventures of Lolo I, II, III
Ultima III, IV
Megami Tensei
Dragon Warrior I, II, III, IV
Maniac Mansion
Final Fantasy II , III
Mother (Earthbound)
SimCity
Back in the 80s, the NES was played on a CRT (tube) TV. This made for instantaneous response, no input lag. The NES hardware also had no lag that software emulators have. But this new device has input lag from being played on a flat screen TV (as well as motion blur), input lag from wireless controllers, input lag from software emulation, and possibly input lag from the HDMI port.
All this input lag can mean difficulty with fast-paced precise timing (action) games. If Nintendo gave this an actual NES board (system on a chip) instead of using an ARM CPU and a software emulator that would eliminate one source of lag but not the large lag from LCD televisions.
As far as action titles, I would have also included:
Legacy of the Wizard
Marble Madness
Section Z (autofire switch on controller)
Arkanoid (twist controller)
Super Mario Bros II (the original Japanese one)
Super Pitfall
Tengen Tetris
Q*Bert

Never had an NES proper; I went on hiatus with an Atari 2600 and came back with the SNES, so this is super exciting.
Best Buy's website had some troubles when I ordered; slowed down tremendously. But I got through.
Thank you!

The mini NES is a great console for collector's and people who are into retro gaming but if you played this as a kid i would definitely recommend considering how expensive most of those cartridges are for the original NES

I love it! This takes me back to my childhood, it was my first gaming system and my favorite. I can actually beat my daughter at gaming with this and show her how I can save a princess and make her wait her turn!

For the price of this new compact version of the classic system that really started it all including 30 games how can you go wrong whether you played this timeless system or not. It's a win win situation!

I been waiting for this for a long time. I was 12 years old when I got my first Nintendo. Too bad no Contra or Ikari Warriors..that sucks but I'm still getting it. Had to buy the retro mini Sega last year just because there was no Nintendo and I was never a big Sega fan so I'm glad Nintendo realized there is a demand for this.

This is a must have for all Nintendo collectors and fans. The 30 preloaded games are classic NES and the HDMI compatibility is excellent for playing on newer widescreen HDTVs.

This is an awesome mini console. If you have the SNES classic, just use those controllers instead of this ridiculously short NES classic controllers. They are compatible. You can save your games at any point. Each game has 4 slots where your games get suspended. That a great feature to have.

This console is amazing. It has all the NES classics you could ask for packed in an adorable package and displayed in HD. If you can track one down then I would recommend buying it.

Ever since they rereleased the Atari several years ago, I've been wondering why they never did this for the Nintendo. Finally going to be able to relive my younger years with the kids.

How do you save the games?

I love my NES, but HOW DO YOU SAVE THE GAMES? One review stated there are 4 slots for each game to save your progress but I do not see them when I try to log off the game. Very frustrating. I have actually stopped playing it due to this problem. Can someone please help me?

Fatastic Graphics - Audio Issues
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was thrilled to finally get this because there were games I have wanted to play again. On the first TV I set it up on to try it out when I got it home it worked great. Perfect video and audio. When I moved it to the TV it would actually be used on, the video was perfect but there was no audio. Tried all HDMI ports, multiple cables, called Nintendo (they never heard of this happening before), and called the TV manufacturer. So while I wish I still had it, and could give it 5 stars, there is an issue (and has historically) with audio compatibility (and I've never had any issues with any video/audio devices connected to this TV) that Nintendo needs to address. I ended up having to return it.

Worth The Wait

This is without a doubt worth the wait. It may only have 30 games, but it is that feeling of nostalgia that makes it all the better. A must buy.
