Customers are saying

Customers praise the NES Classic Edition's game selection, ease of use, small size, and the inclusion of HDMI for modern TVs. Positive comments also highlight the nostalgic appeal and affordable price. However, a common complaint centers on the short controller cord length. Overall, the system is seen as a fun and easy-to-use retro gaming experience.

Really excellent system, but you need more to play

OK, if you’re looking at buying this, you probably played the original Nintendo as a kid or a teen and want to relive those games. And for that purpose, this game system works perfectly. All the Mario games are faithfully reproduced, and the controls work great. Now, we get to the problems. First, you’re provided with ONE controller. As we all know, if you’re gonna play Mario, you need two, and they are VERY hard to find at the store price of $10! But, if you can get past that you need to obtain a second controller, you then find that you need to purchase extension cords for the controllers, because they’re literally only 2 and a half feet long. I took out my old Nintendo system controller, and those controllers are 7 and a half feet. This alone is what made me remove 1 star from my review; Nintendo HAD to know that no one can sit 30 inches from their TV, which is where the vast majority of us will place the system. I removed a second star because really, you also need to first find, and then buy a second controller to play a lot of the games. Sure, you can play Zelda alone, but it’s going to get boring fast after that. And we won’t even mention that you can’t play Duck Hunt anymore... Now, the good. Once you have all the extras ($10 for a controller and $10-$15 for extensions), this system becomes a lot of fun to play. But, since we’ve played all these games before, you quickly tire of going through the levels in Mario, trying to get through Metroid levels over and over, and looking at 8 bit graphics on massive 60” flat screen TVs. I think if it was more plug and play from the box (the SNES Classic comes with 2 controllers, solving one of the biggest issues with this system), it would be worth 4 stars, but in the configuration it comes in, combined with the inevitable “I’m bored now” syndrome we all get, I can really only give it 3 out of 5. When you buy this, you want a blast from the past. But it can’t deliver that out of the box unless you get the extras I’ve mentioned (don’t even try third party controllers; the buttons lag and the games become unplayable), and that limits the appeal of making this $60 impulse purchase.

Works as advertised! So fun to relive some of my childhood games and memories. Even better is introducing my kids to the games and hearing things like "why is it so pixelated?" Hahaha, they have no idea. Great selection of games and they look great on the big screen.

30 classic NES titles to play will satisfy most reto junkies out there, but some of the games included have a lot to be desired though. I am giving this 4 stars mainly due to the short cord for the NES controller and also for not including a 2nd controller in which it is near impossible to purchase a 2nd controller at regular price these days. If you can get your hand on one, you will have a blast playing some NES classics.

The Nes Classic really brings back some good memories. I like a lot of the games and they were difficult then and are still difficult today. But it's all good because we can now save game states anywhere. My only dislike is the short controller cable and lack of first party controllers.

It's a nice small console, with a lot of fun games. I do recommend buying wireless remotes.

It looks just like a mini NES. Good selection of games, but why Super C instead of Contra? You should get a second controller and extension cables if you want to actually play it instead of just keeping it as is. It really should have come with a second controller.

Like NES Classic, this product is a nostalgia-filled roller coaster. A lot of classic titles bring back so many childhood memories. The big problem: NOT include the adapter to plug in to a standard wall plug. You can power the console via micro-USB only, so hopefully you have an extra USB-plug adapter. Another bad thing is that the controller cords are too short which means you can’t get far enough back from tv.

Excellent system build quality and game selection. However, the included controller chord isn’t nearly long enough. In fact, it’s comically short to the point that playing is difficult. I’d highly recommend buying a wireless controller or chord extension. It’s hard to believe Nintendo made this mistake with what could have been a great system.

Bought this on a whim for the kids because my better half did not like the idea of the kids getting hooked on gaming. She needn't worry because the kids haven't been too enamored with this. That is not a negative against the product but rather against this generation of children. I grew up on this, and I have to admit that I've rather enjoyed playing it!

I bought the original NES system on my 6th birthday in 1985, and I can tell you right now this is nearly an identical representation of the original system! The games have never looked nor played better than they do with this update. Highly recomended, if you can find one that is! lol

Everything about this is authentic to the original NES. Especially if you use the provided controller. I even enjoyed resetting a game when you died. Brings back memories. This unit performs flawlessly, Has great games and several options to support more modern TVs.

This takes me back to the good old days of Nintendo playing without the need to blow on cartridges or clean the console. All of the best games are on here and the full size controller feels great, even in now adult hands. Perfect piece of nostalgia at a great price!

I am totally satisfied with this Classic NES Mini edition, it brings back the memories as a child in the 80's. It was nineteen eighty somthing!! System works great, able to save your games and plenty of games to choose from. I love it and totally recommend it!!

This console is perfect for someone that wants to revisit the best NES games or for a new gamer. We are using it to teach our 6 year old son to learn to play games and although these games are not easy per say they are simple due to the 2 button input. A must buy!

This is just a must have item. Brings back so many great memories. I wish this wasn't so hard to get so more people can get this. The only downside (besides the shortage) is , well the super short cord on the controller. Good thing there are wireless and cable adapter options out now.

Great emulator of 30 classic NES games. The controller feels just like the original. The only downsides are 1) some of the games are terrible, and 2) the controller cable is too short. Still worth it just for the Zeldas, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Final Fantasy, Punch Out, and Mega Man 2.

Bought this to have some fun playing some of the games that I grew up on. Overall it has a good amount of games with a decent selection. I would of liked to see some others personally, along with the option to buy/DL some more in the future. I think they lost a chance for future revenue with not allowing the addition of games. It is still fun in the end to play them, in case you lost/sold your old NES system.

So I was hesitant to originally purchase this system esp when I found out about the limited preloaded games. I enjoyed the game selection and the responsiveness of the system. Overall it’s a great nostalgic experience reminiscent of the good old days of video games.
