This is the card for the Nintendo Switch Online services. What in the world is that? it's basically your ticket to playing your favorite games not with a computer but with actual real people such as your friends who are also staying in or others from around the world via online connection. Most of the games are a lot more fun once you start playing online and the with it's very low cost-options it very easy to stay connected with your friends.

Nintendo’s online service is garbage compared to Microsoft’s Xbox Live or Playstation’s Online network. Nintendo lacks the ability for members to purchase classic games from older consoles (something fans are clamoring for and something consoles before the Switch allowed). This service lacks the ability for people to socialize using the console itself, whether it be through virtual messaging or verbal communication through voice chat. Players are required to download an app on a cell phone or tablet in order to communicate with specific fellow players and invite them to a gaming session. This is an insane, troublesome process to follow when there is a much simpler method that Nintendo could adopt. If you’re looking to play with a bunch of random people online, you don’t need the app. Finally, as far as online play is concerned, the online play revolves around Peer to Peer (P2P) rather than being hosted on dedicated servers. This means online play is laggy if you’re in the US, which as a country has failed to catch up with the rest of the developed world in terms of internet speeds. Some games are better than others (Splatoon destroys Smash), but it’s a frustrating experience regardless. The only reason to purchase Nintendo Online is to have the ability to back up your game saves. This is important because unfortunately if your Switch console happens to break, Nintendo often cannot retrieve your hours of game data. So you’re basically purchasing this service to ensure that you have a failsafe to protect against Nintendo’s incompetence. I suppose there’s one bonus feature. If you’re into playing 30 year old Nintendo NES games, this subscription provides access to classic titles through a “sort of” streaming service. You don’t have to be online to play the games, but you need this subscription and you need to “check in” to a WiFi Network every so often to retain access to this NES collection. Subscribers also have the exclusive privilege of purchasing two Switch compatible NES controllers for $60 to really take you back to the Stone Age of gaming. Truly, we are living in a utopia.

Not much to say, it was an addition to another gift for my son. Everything worked as expected he now has a full year of online play!
