The Wii U is great

I ultimately chose the Wii U because it seemed to have more family friendly games with easier controls. I have smaller kids, and in an effort to help them learn how to play quicker, I went with the easier to control system. Plus, a lot of the games aren't the shoot and kill type, so much better for families.
