To be honest I barely knew anything about this game when I ordered it, I just thought it seemed interesting. Apparently this is made by the same company that makes the Final Fantasy series, and it definitely shows. It very much reminds me of the old-school Final Fantasy games in the point where you start the game by picking 1 of 8 protagonists and begin their journey. With some turn based battles, dungeon crawling, and fulfilling quests, you can actually come across the other protagonists on your journey and can even befriend the other 7 if you wanted to. Helping a different protagonist can even enable you to add them to your party so you can be even stronger! Tons of weapon types and a dual job system make it to where you can fully customize your squad and truly make it your own. I would DEFINITELY reccomend this game for anyone interested in an amazing old school rpg experience.

As a huge fan of 16-bit era JRPGs, this game is right up my alley. I totally understand the criticisms about its fractured storyline, but I didn't mind it--I played this game in bit-sized pieces (perfect for the Switch) so I though the narrative structure lent itself to that play style.

Very immersive and content packed game. You are bound to find a favorite character of the eight to choose from for your number one but they all offer something interesting and deserved to be explored. Excellent battle system and just the right amount of hand holding to keep the game moving and interesting.

And excellent game that can be played in spurts or long sessions. The art direction is beautiful while the music is divine. Story wise it doesn’t stray far from normal JRPG tropes and while some storylines are a little less significant than others it doesn’t make t any less fun to play. Highly recommended!

Octopath traveler is for anyone looking to play a rpg on the switch. By no means is it a perfect game, but there are so many small details in the game that if you are someone who takes their time to learn the battle system and talk to every villager, you will be rewarded with the full depth of the game.

This game is fantastic. You can start with any character, and the story intertwines with the other 7 characters in the game as you progress. Love the throwback to retro JRPGs. The battle system feels lacking to me, but the voice acting, story, character buildouts, etc make up for it by far. Great game.

I love the look of this game! As a classic era gamer I have a special and permanent place in my heart for the aesthetics of 8 and 16 bit games. Octopath Traveler is the perfect blend of those classic eras along with elements of more modern rpg mechanics. If you can imagine having 8 bit sprites of classic era Final Fantasy Characters in a 3D environment which includes depth of field, you'll have only the beginnings of what makes this game awesome.

It does a great job of blending an old school turn based game style with Ann old school look, but does an amazing job bringing it all together in a beautiful world full of magic, monsters, and rpg elements. It's a jrpg, so expect some grinding, but if you like older RPGs, i can't recommend this enough!

Fantastic game with a story that compares to classic JRPG’s. Similar to games on the PS1 such has Legend of the Dragoon, each character and there style of fighting make things unique, and there stories for the most part interesting. This is a must have for fans of classic turn based RPG’s.

Excellent game to play when you have a couple hours of free time here and there, could be a little challenging at times and you will have to learn the opponents move and defeat them when they are most weak. Still a little bit grindy of a game but still really fun to play if you do not binge play

I tried the three hours demo (that you can get on Nintendo store) and had to go buy this game right after. The saved data from the demo got transferred to the purchased game. The gameplay is very fun and the artwork is amazing. I have already put ~25 hours into it and will continue to play.

If your a fan of SNES era JRPGs you'll be right at home here. The stories leave a lot to be desired though. Each character gets their own story and outside of some dialogue there is no interaction between them. Half the stories have no stakes or sense of urgency until the final chapter so those are need a strong narrative may not feel compelled to finish the game. The battle system is turn based and with 8 classes plus 4 hidden classes offers plenty of depth.

Octopath Traveler is a decent 40+ hour game that will keep you engaged with some interesting combat mechanics. It will require some grinding here and there if you wish to keep all eight characters similarly leveled, but the combat is interesting enough that it keeps it from being dull.

I got this as a gift from my friend and it really is a fun game to play on the Switch. The Switch in general is great for portability and thus making this game easy to play from the living room to the bathroom or even at a friends house. Great storyline and graphics! My new fav game right now!

I'm only a few hours in, but so far I am absolutely loving this game. It plays so much like classic JRPG games with an awesome blend of retro-pixel-style and GORGEOUS backgrounds. So far it is a little linear, but I'm hoping it'll open up more once I get out of essentially the first chapter.
