Great art/music. Didn't care for the rest of the game though.

This is one of the only games my college-age son said he wanted for Christmas. At this high price, I hope he likes it.

I didn’t realize when I bought this it has mature content. If you have a young kid, you may want to think twice.

Phew, finished Octopath Traveler only to find the most annoying game ever. Eight pointless different stories haphazardly woven at random. Battles so repetitive it feels like medieval torture. The game developers' lack of imagination is obvious, at the end, you only find the final boss battle as yet another meaningless side story. All the side stories necessary to get to the final boss feels like the real point of the game is to be an afterthought. I will not be getting another Square Enix title again.

This game is great in two ways Battles and Aesthetics, unfortunately those are about the only good things about it. It has so much promise but really comes off as a lackluster jrpg experience.

Unique throwback style with modern twist

I figured I'd like this game, but I did not expect to absolutely love it! First - the graphics are impressive. Some people have complained about the block-style art, but it is suppose to be that way - it is the whole point! Square wanted to make the game reminiscent of their older 8- and 16-bit games while providing just enough of a modern update. Personally, I liked the art style - it brought me back to playing games like Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo! The game relies heavily on story, which is not always a priority in this day and age with games. Each of the eight separate tales don't really overlap, but it really isn't a problem. I found myself immersed in each at different times. Some were better than others, but they all varied from "pretty-good" to "fantastic." I felt a connection with each character on their quest and became rather attached the closer to the end I got. The turned-based fighting system isn't for everyone. I have found myself both loving and hating it in various JRPGs, but I will say that this game gets it right! The boost system and ability to assign secondary "jobs" to characters helps keep it interesting and can alter your strategy for approaching boss battles. The music is phenomenal. Nuff' said bout' that If you liked the older Square games like Final Fantasy on the 16 bit consoles or The Secret of Mana - then you'll be in to this!

It is neat that S.E. gave nintendo an exclusive, but even as such a talented company that they are, they could not produce a current gen quality game on the under powered Switch. The game looks and sounds like it should be on the GBA. Give Nintendo another decade and their consoles might only be 5 years obsolete.

Old style, reminds me of "Secret of Mana" for SNES. Behind the times, graphics. Just overall, not an entertaining game.
