An emotional journey
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start off by saying that I have not bought the physical copy of this game, so I don't know what additional pieces the switch version comes with compared to Steam. Omori is a game unlike any I have ever played. I would advise that the less you know about this game before going into it, the better. Without spoiling too much, here is what I'll say: The gameplay is a solid/interesting mix of exploration and turned based combat with some pretty cool/unique battle mechanics thrown in that play on the "emotions" of characters in a sort of rock paper scissors. The combat system is cool and solid, but I would say ultimately NOT the main selling point of the game. This is a game that leans HEAVILY into the charming world, story, and characters, and really makes you care more about them than any other game I've gone through. The story is paced very deliberately in a way that may seem slow at first, but you'll have to trust that it's both necessary and worth it once everything starts to unwind. I have never experienced a more engaging narrative in any media. If you can handle the dark themes and small amounts of horror that are involved, this game is an absolute masterpiece with so much love put into it.
