Several big problems make this a total disaster
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The short version is that the software on this phone is horrible. The OS feels like a custom rom that you'd download on some forum thread someplace, and it's only going to get worse when they move to using ColorOS, which is as close to an iPhone knockoff as you can get. It's just dreadful. Still no Android 12 because they botched the first rollout and had to pull it, so now it's delayed. Not that it would matter because their garbage UI is going to obscure all the new UX work Google put into 12. On top of that there has been a bug where Gmail notifications do not work since this phone launched. There's an ancient forum thread on their own site of people complaining and reps there just kicking the can and saying "oh just wait we've asked for them to fix it please report in the gmail app". Total joke. I unboxed this phone, fully updated it, and can confirm that on a fresh handset Gmail notifications are totally nonfunctional out of the box. Sometimes restarting the phone will cause them to work for a few minutes if you test them quickly, but then you stop getting them. Again, tried all the fixes, messing with battery optimization, changing notification settings, all that. You can't fix it. Apparently they can't fix it either. On top of that no matter what I do I cannot get wifi to work any faster than 33mbps. No matter which network, which band, no matter if I reset, try all the fixes online, nothing works. Wifi is dog slow. Also a common complaint. The camera is horrible. For having three lenses and bragging that it was made in conjunction with some camera company I've never heard of the camera is worthless. Every picture looks the kind of picture a camera would produce if it was struggling in low light, just grainy and dirty looking. Not sharp and horrible colors. Even in a bright room with tons of light on someone the image is just gritty and blurry. Unless you have hands like a statue all video is worthless and looks like it was shot by someone sitting on a paint mixer, with no image stabilization at all. You can't use the official Google Camera, you're stuck with the horrible OEM camera app. The screen constantly gets phantom touches, which I figured out is from the edges of the screen getting triggered by your hand, even if your hand is not touching the screen itself. The speaker, singular, is on the bottom edge and if you're playing a horizontal screen game will be totally blocked, leaving you with no sound. The eyepiece speaker does not work as a speaker. Even when the speaker is unblocked it sounds horrible, like the speaker built into a cheap laptop. Even youtube videos of just someone talking sound low quality, nevermind music or game sounds. OnePlus also got caught out throttling the performance of apps "to optimize battery", which I'm really not okay with. I discovered this on my internet travels doing hours of troubleshooting on my brand new phone. On the upside, the screen looks pretty nice, the in-display fingerprint reader is fast and accurate, calls sound fine, the phone feels snappy and quick. It charged fast. Total embarrassment. Even one of these would make this phone a non-starter for me, but that I ran into all of them in the first few hours with the device is a complete debacle. One positive is that at least it showed its colors fast so that I can return it.

Great phone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was able to pick up my OnePlus the same night I ordered it online, which was convenient, in reference to Best Buy and its procedures. I've now owned the OnePlus since November, and I couldn't be happier with my new phone. Its fast and I really like its interface. It is similar to Samsung's Galaxy UI, but it is not the exact same. There are considerable differences. I've owned every Galaxy phone over the years up to the S10, and I don't think I'll ever buy another one. The OnePlus feels like a massive upgrade. I've not had one problem with this phone that I can think of. I love the Warp charger as it fully charges my phone in like, 10 minutes. I am shocked every time I plug it in and watch the charge go up lol. I use my phone for a lot of things day-to-day. I play a couple of games on it, Hearthstone and Pokemon Go mostly, and I have no issues there. Gaming mode is pretty cool. It works seamlessly. I have had no problems with the fingerprint scanner, with my cameras, with the touch-response ability of my screen. Everything works great and I am satisfied with my purchase.

Very good phone at an excellent price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this phone during sale. So far so good and no complaints. It's an excellent phone: fast, nice display, long lasting battery with super fast charging. Even though the camera is not as good as other flagship phones, it produces pretty good photos.

Excellent phone!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Phone. Don't fall for negative reviews. It's way better than pixel 6 which I got rid off after 2 months. This phone is faster, has lightning fast fingerprint scanner and great reception since it has Qualcomm x 60 modem antenna rather than generic samsung modem antenna in pixel 6 which even samsung doesn't use in their own phones. I had very frustrated experience with pixel 6 especially with connectivity issues. App throttling is not a issue at all. This phone is very fast. Battery life is great too with some minor adjustments. Highly recommended!!

$730 Paperweight
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Major issues that affect the functionality of the device. It seemed alright right out of the box. Photos were abysmal, but at least the rest of the phone was good (not great, but fast enough and seemed responsive with a nice UI). Starting at about the two week mark and onward, it has gotten progressively worse in every way. I hate myself for not returning this when I had a chance. I really thought I could make this work for me, but I'd rather walk barefoot through broken glass than use this phone for two years. I honestly wanted to love it. The hardware is beautiful and I love non-Samsung androids. For context, I'm coming from a 64 GB Pixel 3A XL (so the economy model of a three-generation-old phone). My issues with it: -Photo quality is unbelievably bad. I didn't know that modern phones could take such blurry, un-focused photos. The editing of the portrait style photos is sloppy and makes them look terrible. I thought I could handle having slightly worse pictures. This isn't slightly worse. Even my non-picture-taking husband hates his, because he can't take clear pictures of what he needs to for work. -Battery life is horrible. The update improved it slightly, but I find myself charging two or three times a day with regular usage. Again, I'm not coming from the latest and greatest here, so when your flagship 2021 phone can't stack up to a two-year-old economy phone, that's embarrassing. -Bluetooth is shoddy at best. I have never had any Bluetooth issues with my old phone. Since buying this one, I have had to disconnect and reconnect two sets of headphones, my speaker, and my car multiple times. I can't charge this phone in my car, because it's apparently incompatible and my car doesn't recognize this device (no issues on any other device brand). -My biggest issue is the poor connectivity- every aspect. Even on great 4G and wifi signal strength, with other devices receiving signal just fine and running at speed, this phone struggles to load pages. It is literally around 50% of the time that I'm unable to load a page. And not just slow to load- completely unable. I am CONSTANTLY toggling between data and wifi, toggling airplane, and restarting the phone to try to get enough data to browse Reddit or look up a recipe. Even worse, this phone gets no cell service in the same places my Pixel did, on the same network. I was recently stranded on the side of the road, unable to even send a text to get help. I had to walk up and down the road get try to send a message, because a call was completely off the table, in an area I had 3-bar service at previously. Do not buy this phone unless you want to pay for a phone for 2 years while you use your old phone. It is literally unusable. A this point, not only will I not recommend OnePlus, I will go out of my way to warn everyone I know not to buy from this brand. My husband's 8T has most of the same problems, so it's not one-off. Now I have to find a way to trade in a two month old phone at a huge loss.

Nice looking phone......but that's about it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Galaxy S10 Lite. A so-called watered down version of the S10+. It is almost 1.5 years old. Like the Oneplus 9, it has a 4500mah battery that will last all day, and quite strong even during the watching of several videos. My phone, at just 50% brightness is brighter than the Oneplus 9 at about 60% brightness. Where the Oneplus 9 is brighter than my S10 is at 100%. But go ahead and put your phone at 100% brightness and tell me shortly thereafter how much battery you have left after, say, 5 hours of real world use, not just sitting on a table. On top of that, the 60 hertz refresh my phone has is actually faster than the Oneplus 9 at 120 hertz. As usual, paid video guys and girls are entirely wrong in their presentation of this unit. The one speaker at the bottom of my phone is almost as loud as the dual speaker system the Oneplus 9 has. It sounds nice, but nothing that gives off a wow factor. There is no way this phone should cost what it cost. Wireless charging is nice, I guess if that's your thing. And honestly, how many people reverse charge. It is still way in the infancy stage of technology. I am going to safely assume that Oneplus has come a long way, yes. But it will never frankly catch up to the top dogs in the business.

Don't do it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got talked into this phone when I switched to TMobile. One of the worst phones I have ever owned. Camera is trash, battery life is pathetic. Lots if setup quirks that caused apps not to work. For some reason some calls ring and others don't.

Do yourself a favor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice looking phone. Has held up in my 501's pocket for a couple of weeks now. Do yourself a favor and ask google about 'oneplus technical support review'. They cost me money and time and contributed nothing to the solution of the problem
