I considered Yamaha, Denon, Sony and Onkyo models for my new purchase, and finally went with Onkyo TX-NR686. Though the reviews of all the models of Denon, Sony and Yamaha were great, I choose Onkyo mainly due to the fact that it is Google Assistant ready. I am so happy with the quality of this product from Onkyo so far.

Sometimes blue screen

Don’t get me wrong the sound is great for the money however it’s more of the issue with the HDMI ARC It randomly goes to blue screen when trying to select back to cable vs smart tv or game. I previously had a Yamaha and it worked great never had this issue but went bad when it was struck by lightning.

Kind of difficult to hook up And a little confusing to use. It does have a great sound but it has a lot of things I don’t like about it as well. I would definitely do you research before purchasing this receiver.

I wanted to like this unit

On the plus side, this unit packs a huge amount of technology into a budget price point and from that standpoint it is a best buy. It looked impressive and was surprisingly heavy and solid for a piece of electronic equipment these days. However it was so frustrating to use (Bluetooth, network, speaker set up and remote control) that at first I thought it was me. Then after wrestling with the scant documentation provided including the manual and getting zero help from customer service, it dawned on me that the unit was probably pushed to market at a low price point where the consumer was left to fend for himself. I even contacted a Best Buy store for help and that ended up trying to upsell me to a more expensive unit.
