A: Yes.....connect your 3 speakers......then go into the on screen set up menu......there you will tell the receiver what speaker set up you are using( 2.0 , 2.1 , 3.0 , 3 1 , 5.1 etc.)...... the reciever will recognize this and give you the processing options available by the simple press of a button.
Q: Does this unit support Google or Alexa Assistance?
A: I believe it supports Google only, not Alexa, which was a minus for me as an Alexa household.
A: Yes. This unit is one of few in its price range that has a built in phono stage, so it will support a turntable and 6 other analog inputs, such as a tape deck etc.
A: 100 watts per channel should be enough for a medium sized living room. However, it all depends on the efficiency of your speakers - check their specs. If they're horn tweeters like Klipsch then their sensitivity rating is 90 + decibels and you'll have no problem. if they're more audiophile speakers, which tend to be less efficient but more natural sounding, they typically have a rating in the mid-80s decibel range for efficiency and may not be enough. Also, there is no standard for rating AV receiver power so be sure the hundred watts per channel is rated at 8 ohms with multiple channels (like the Onkyo 686 is) and not 4 or 6 ohms driving one channel which gives a higher wattage number. For the money and even $100 more you're probably not going to find better power and value than this Onkyo 686.
Q: hi ! how can switch to 6 ohms or 8 ohms ! please let me know thanks!
A: You have to go into settings and choose speaker configuration. There you can choose between 4 or 6 ohms speakers. I don’t know why there are only two options. I think I remember reading in the owners manual to choose 6 ohm for 8 ohm speakers.
A: Yes, this unit will work. You can hook up all your old equipment with this unit. You will have no problems using RCA cables. Hope this helps you make a final decision.
A: You have to activate Zone 2 in the set up menu for speakers. It’s maddening and took me an hour to figure it out, but you only have to do it once and then it should work.
A: I had this same problem and spent hours and different cables trying to fix it. You have to hold the power button down and the BD/DVD button down at the same time to change the HDMI setting from standard to enhanced. Works perfectly. This was nowhere to be found in the instructions or the settings which was frustrating. I found it buried on an online post somewhere.
