The 2nd zone is hard to get to and use

serious bang for you buck
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the good: -power - plenty of punch and very clean. paired with some decent quality speakers in my home theater, i really get a sense of “cinema immersion”. -codecs - handles pretty much any audio or video encode you should need. -intuitive menus - much improved over previoius years’ models. easy to navigate. -automatic setup and calibration - in my situation did quite nicely with speaker levels, distances, and EQ. after walking through the setup with the included microphone, i didn't really need to do any tuning. everything sounds fantastic. -plenty of hdmi connections -wifi, airplay, and chromecast bult in -4k HRD (HDR10 and dolby vision) the bad: -nothing really overall: i’m personally a big fan of onkyo. in this sort of “mid tier” price range, i love the feature set and the clean power. i definitely wouldn’t call it a budget receiver, but it’s not exactly “high end” either. it’s right in that sweet spot in the middle, where you get tons of bang for your buck without having to dig too far into your wallet. the intuitive setup and ease of use, coupled with the clean power (even if it is oversold at 210W, that’s only for speakers rated at 6Ohms) make this a fairly easy 5 stars for me.

||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent sound quality, but when paired to a Bluetooth device it skips and it’s not worth the price.

You get what you pay for.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not as good as an integra and its definitely the bottom of onkyo's line. I should have paid an extra 1 or 2 hundred more for a better reciever.

Horrible. Do not buy.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver was a replacement for my last Onkyo, which was great. It never sounded as good and exactly one day after the warranty expired, it stopped working. There is Check SP Wire message. This is apparently a common problem. Don’t take a chance.

Had this item for less than a month, problems.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item was purchased less than a month ago and I am already having problems with it. The volume has to be at least turned up to fifty to hear any surround sound, and I just lost my picture on the sat/cable feature on it.

Beware buying Onkyo
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn't even last a year before I lost connection to one of the surround sound channels and it's not worth it to ship to one of the Onkyo repair sites as the warranty won't allow just anyone to fix it. Now that Onkyo has been bought out, don't expect them to continue to honor their warranties.

Open box Purchase, broken
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this receiver from best buy as an open box purchase. None of the HDMI ports work, and now trying to return it they want to charge me for the remote... that didn't come with it, as it said on the label when I bought it. Unfortunately, you cannot set up the device unless you have it hooked up to a TV, so this is very frustrating.

The Worst Switcher in the Business
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was trying to save some money and I bought this receiver. The component AV switcher in every Onkyo receiver is terrible. I had problems when switching from TV to Blue Ray, or any other source. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it would not. There were other problems so I took it back. Wasted a lot time for nothing when I just should have splurged the first and got me the Denon.

Broken Out of the Box
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Onkyo receiver because I had one in the past that performed well. This one immediately showed an error message out of the box, as soon as I plugged it in. I called Onkyo and went through some steps to fix the issue but to no avail. They told me to take it back and get another one. No thanks! I got a Denon instead and it has been working great for two weeks now.

Surprised and very satisfied
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from a higher end, but several years older, Yamaha and was a little concerned the Onkyo would not compare. I did lose some inputs and sound field settings, but never used them anyway. But the sound and video quality are significantly higher, even when playing low quality videos from the internet. And I gained WI-FI, USB and Blu-tooth capability, as well as several other useful features. I particularly like the Tunein net app which includes all of my local radio stations and many others so I didn't have to mess with setting up the tuner. Setup was very easy and only took about an hour, including the hardware connections. The automatic speaker setup worked perfectly. Updating the software over the net was a breeze. The on-line manual is one of the best I have ever seen. And the receiver generates very little heat. I never imagined I could get such quality and so many features for what I paid. My only complaint is that the remote doesn't include TV controls. I highly recommend this receiver.

Way too quite
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awful receiver. My old receiver made my house shake. But this cause it was time for an upgrade.... Sadly was I mistaken. The value levels and sound were terrible and way too quite. I tried to adjust the settings and the results were even worse. Spare yourself and don't but this product.
