Good Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound and power. Few quirks the main complaint is that Zone 2 wont play simultaneous sound. You have to connect an exterl source for the sound

Poor internet connection
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Receiver works ok except for the poor internet connectivity. Pandora, tune in or any other one has a very spotty connection. The reason I bought this receiver in the first place. Aggravating

Expensive Paperweight
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shorted out within 4 months. Only way to have it repaired under factory warranty is taking to a certified dealer. The closest of which is over an hour drive each way. Disappointing.

very fragile
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.once the warranty period was over, the HDMI ports started dying, one after another. I used several inputs and that was ok. Then both outputs died. Now, it's a doorstop...

All the Bells and Whistles
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing power and sound. This receiver gives you just about everything you would want to drive a great home theater experience. The initial online setup was wonderful, the menu and user interface is very well designed, as you'd expect from Onkyo. Even the internet connectivity is great, the wifi chip in the receiver is very fast and was able to download the latest firmware amazingly quick. It comes with a microphone that helps you automatically tune your room to the best audio experience. The process is very simple and really brings out the best in the receiver and your home theater speakers. It runs at 100W RMS so you have plenty of power, and the THD% is very low at only 0.08 so the only sound you hear is what you want to hear. Even at high volume with nothing playing, you don't notice the system is on, it's that quiet. There are all the inputs you'd expect, and plenty of them. Up to 7 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs and it supports 4K passthrough. I'm using the 4K passthrough with an Xbox One X for games and movies and it works great. Being able to utilize DTS X and TruHD along with Dolby Atmos is wonderful. I'm used to Atmos in the movie theater, but hearing it at home takes our movie watching to another level. If there was anything I wish was a little different, it would be the receiver display and the remote control. the display is very basic, very legacy LCD number/text looking. I've seen displays that look very crisp and clear, almost like true HD screens, but this display is very basic. Not that big a deal though because you have the power of the on screen UI. And the remote control is very basic as well. Feels a little cheap in the hand and has "enough" controls on it, but i would have liked it to offer a few more. Overall the sound and functionality of this Onkyo receiver is amazing, i've never heard my movies and music in such clarity and tone before, amazing.

Poor sound quality
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know how anyone could review this as anything else. The depth of sound is terrible. Everything sounds like a low quality Pandora stream instead of quality audio.

Never judge a book by its cover...or its price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased a Denon AVR-X3600H. I brought it home thinking I just got the cream of the crop. All the bells and whistles. Excellent specs. Life couldn’t get better. After all I just spent $1100, this puppy is going to WOW me. Nope... I get home, set it up, and after going through Audyssey am immediately regretting my decision. I have a 7.2 setup and am running the best of the best. How can this be? Sure the sound was great but it didn’t feel like it was worth $1100 for the sound I was listening to. For the record I’m no audiophile, 3/4’s of us reviewing on here aren’t. I’m just an average Joe like you guys (or Jan for the ladies). I work hard for my money and I expect to get a good return on what I purchase. So I go back to Best Buy the very next morning and return it. Insert Onkyo here... So I was debating for the longest between Onkyo’s TXNR686 and Denon’s AVR-X3600H. I purchased Denon because after all, the more I spend the happier I’ll be, right? As previously written above that turned out to be wrong. So upon returning my receiver and bidding farewell I immediately knew the next receiver I wanted to try. I make a B line out of Magnolia and towards the AV Receiver section inside Best Buy. Quicker than you can say “Chick-Fil-A” I had the TXNR686 in hand and was walking towards my truck (Texan native) to bring her home. After tearing her open and setting her up I fired it on. I listened to a few trailers and after about oh, I don’t know, 30 seconds I knew this receiver was the one for me. Unfortunately I also made another grim discovery. One that I feel needs to be shared. (Exhales) Here we go... After listening to both an $1100 receiver from Denon (AVR-X3600H) and a $250 receiver from Onkyo (TXNR686) I found that they both perform the EXACT SAME, SOUND THE SAME, and gosh darn it even look the same (big black metal box). All things being considered I understand it’s not really apples to apples...or is it? After all, once the honeymoon is over and the hype dies down (flashy logos/stickers on the receiver showcasing its MANY features) what are we left with? We’re left with a square metal box that plays sound, streams music, and converts video. Now I’m not trying to be a Debbie downer here but why in the world would anyone spend over $1000 more just to get the same results? Is it brand loyalty? Is it the flashy stickers on the receiver showcasing its features? Oh, let’s address features real quick. Both of these receivers have the exact same features (+/- one receiver will do advanced calculus for you while the other one specializes specifically in trigonometry). Who the heck cares. I hate buying cheap. To me it’s settling for less. Plus when I read all the rave reviews I think everyone whose leaving them is brainwashed. They have no idea that there’s better out there for just a bit more $. After buying this receiver I finally had a light bulb moment. Not all cheap ($) products are cheap (quality). I hate to admit it but for once in my life I decided to go with the affordable (cheap $) receiver and WOW...I couldn’t be happier. More money in my pocket and one very valuable lesson learned. Sometimes less ($) is more ; )
