Love it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had Onkyo receivers before and loved them. Got this one and it did not disappoint. Since we have gotten this, we have been blasting music and watching movies nonstop. We love it! The built-in chromecast is great! PSA - it is a built-in AUDIO chromecast. I think some people may have been confused by that. Once you set it up, it works like a charm. I do think that it slightly underpowered for the price, although I think it makes up for it with the myriad of functions. Honestly, I don't even know all of the functions. I think that it will be future-proof for the foreseeable future. It's definitely compatible with so many apps and devices. All in all, I love this machine and will be using for years to come.

Full Featured AVR
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I am loving the Onkyo - TX 7.2-Ch. Hi-Res 4K HDR Compatible A/V Home Theater Receiver. It looks great in my living room setup. The front panel looks simple and not cluttered. The rear panel has 7 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs, plenty for my setup. It supports all the latest sound formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, and DTS X. It sounds great when watching movies and listening to music. You can also control it with an app on your phone. This receiver has so many features. So, if you're ready for an upgrade I'd recommend this one.

Best Bang for your buck
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the Onkyo Tx-NR686 for a week now and it far exceeded my expectations. To be honest I was suppose to purchase a flagship AVR ( Yamaha RX-A3080, Marantz SR8012, and Denon AVR-X6500), but i opted out for this entry level Onkyo AVR. The Onkyo TX-NR686 was on sale ($300), so i decided to give it a try. That night i took it home and set it up as a 5.1.2. Speakers I'm using are: Center: Def Tech Pro Center 2000 Front Speakers : (2) Klipsch RP-160M Ceiling and Surround: (4) Def Tech Pro Cinema 600 Sub's : (2) Mirage Omni S10 4k Player: Xbox One S Although, I'm using different brands the sound is well balanced. Calibrating the system was a simple and user friendly. it took about 3 minutes to do and it did a fairly good job at calibrating the speakers. After calibrating i did some adjustments of my own to the Sub db because the dB level was to high. I set the SUB dB to -4 on the AVR. As soon as i had everything plugged to this receiver, i played Ready Player One on 4k. I fast forward it to the racing scene and WOWWWWW! The sound was clear and immersive. I can feel the LFE shaking my whole house. Pictures were falling of walls and my seat was shaking. It sounded better than the theater. This receiver has excellent future at a price you cant resist. Note: This AVR doesn't have 2 independent sub channels. Both sub outputs share the same signal, so it is important that you own subs with a phase switch. Running subs on the same signal without phase switch can cause sound you to loose LFE level. You can defeat this by Having Sub1 at 0 Phase and Sub2 at 180 Degrees Phase. Must Buy.. picture and sound is good. I've had no issues yet. you cant beat this price

Relatively Simple Setup except ARC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the sound quality and features, especially the intelligent balancing of the speakers. I connected it to an LG OLED TV, using a single cable and the HDMI ARC ports. Took a while to figure out how to get ARC to work. The TV settings I finally went with were under Sound -> Audio Out (Optical/HDMI ARC) with Digital Sound Out set to PCM and the Simplink set to On. When watching cable TV the receiver shows CBL/SAT and when I open NetFlix it switches to "TV" automatically and the sound is correct (I am using my LG TV Remote to open NetFlix). The only reason I rated the receiver as a "4 star" is because when I close NetFlix, the receiver does not automatically go back to CBL/SAT....it turns on my Sony Blu-Ray and changes to "BD/DVD." On the Onkyo remote, BD/DVD is the first buttons, so it makes me wonder if it just jumps back to the first input rather than the Cable TV input. I then have to manually switch it using the Onkyo remote and then turn off the Blu-Ray. Not a big deal other than I'm curious why it works that way and if its something I have wrong in the setup. If anyone has solved this, I'll bump the rating up to a "5 Star". If anyone can tell me if there is a way to force

It's good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To get Dolby vision with this receiver You'll need to enable enhanced 4k. Do this by holding bd/dvd then push the power button twice. You will see it change. This is done on the receiver itself. You may have to upgrade the firmware first.

Great receiver!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing support as well if you have questions. You maybe able to snag a like new one from NH craigslist if you live around NH/ MA. Onkyo works forever and works very well with Bose. Much better than Sony or Pioneer.

Ok unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two get 2 channels and bluetooth. Was able to pair with iPhone but not my beats headphones. I tried to play music from my phone and it showed up on the unit, but no sound. Also could not pair my Beats Studio headphones (current model). So, took it back as it didn't meet my needs. radio stations played fine, but not better than the Denon unit I was trying to replace. Finally, the unit is a lot bigger (height) than my old unit and wouldn't fit the slot of my entertainment console. So, better measure yours if you have one, just in case.

Good AV Receiver, but no full chromecast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had a 7 year old Onkyo AVR which came with bundled speakers, Upgraded to this, Love this AVR, noticed instant improvement in audio quality even with that cheap speakers from Onkyo, But upgraded my speakers to Klipsch Reference series now its a blast, very good sound. Only concern, as of now, is with Chromecast, its kind of misleading, it can only stream audio through the Chromecast, that is app like Google music, spotify will work, but YouTube will not.
