Grest sound they should come with a manual the consumer should not have to down load a 165 page manual that is a big expense.

Very well made and good value for the price. I was pleasantly surprised to find the quality has not changed since my first Onkyo purchase some 20 years ago.

    Second Onkyo AV receiver

This is my second Onkyo receiver in the last 4 years. I wasn't sure whether to stay with Onkyo or go with another vendor, ultimately I chose to stay with a familiar brand. Install was simple enough, the calibration went smoothly, overall I'm satisfied with my decision.

After figuring out the set up stuff, I love it. It runs everything with plenty of hookups in the back. It's easy to choose what you want and so far performs flawlessly

The Onkyo receiver is a great product. It allows me to play my music outside on the deck with the second speaker connection.

    Purchase Best buy Warranty

First off, let me state that I love Onkyo products...having used them for the last 25 years. I bought this unit and was blown away by the sound and connectivity, really sounds nice. After a month, the unit started turning on and off by itself. I contacted Bestbuy and was told that since I didn't purchase their warranty, I would have to have the manufacturer repair it and so it sits in Flushing Queens for the last month while they wait for a part to arrive. Don't buy this unit unless you purchase the Bestbuy warranty otherwise you are asking for trouble

    Not This One.....

I've had this system for 2.5 years. The signal to send sound to two of my speakers and the sub-woofer has failed (verified by GS). This is unacceptable for a unit in this price range. Certainly expected to get more than 2.5 years use. And, if you want to use Zone 2 for speakers and also need to hook up a transmitter for headphones, the setup is complicated and may or may not work at times. The sound from this unit is great. Wish it had worked out but will not buy anything else from Onkyo.

    Best to avoid

Do not buy. I bought the NR696 and was very excited at first, however, over time I realized that the HDMI board was not able to consistently and properly relay HDR signals (particularly at 60hz). There is a setting on the receiver that you can adjust and even if you change the HDMI setting to Enhanced, the receiver does not work properly. The image will cut out and go black constantly because the HDMI inputs are faulty. I have recently learned that this is a very common issue with Onkyo receivers and the 696 is no different. Now I am stuck with a very expensive, defective unit that I cannot return. It is covered under warranty, but considering Onkyo's history of faulty HDMI boards, but that is just more work for you to do as a result of poor build quality and components. Don't make the same mistake as me, avoid Onkyo receivers.

    Onkyo Support makes this junk

Get the Best Buy warranty Onkyo has crappy service let Best Buy's extended warranty give you the service if you need it. You have been warned not to deal with support, Id rather deal with Geek Squad Do not give this product as a gift, when it breaks your gift recipient will be provided useless troubleshooting and be told your SOL because it was a gift and you don’t have a receipt. I love Onkyo products up until my interaction with Jose from customer service. As for the product, it’s great until it breaks and if you Google search TXNR696 HDMI issue you will see tons of people with the same issue. Wish this company was as great as it uses to be. Soon to junk both my receivers. Happy shopping for other manufacturers

Disappointed, it says it has zone 2 capability but it really doesn't. I returned it after I bought outside atrium speakers.

    Worst experience from a receiver

If I could give this product negative rating I would first time buying an onkyo receiver big mistake never again!!!! Out of all the receivers I have owned never have I had so many problems from setup up to network Bluetooth connectivity. Sound would come in and out especially when connected to the network/bluetooth I tried updating it that didn't help if anything it got worse sounded like a distorted scratched cd on Bluetooth???? What a waste luckily I had bought it on sale for around $200 my return period had already past I was hoping it would get better. It will be going gone in the trash in more than one piece.

    Broke, then broke more

First all of the hdmi inputs stopped working except 2. But I figured its fine I can make it work. That was after 2 years. Now It is 3 years old and outputs to the speakers stopped working except the two fronts. That would also be tolerable if it didnt also sound terrible with very little power to those speakers. Something this expensive should have a longer life.
