Replaces a 13 year old Onkyo 705 receiver. I first check for sound improvement through listening to recordings of vocal duos and groups to see how well I can distinguish singers better and whether words are clearer. The 696 is excellent on both account. I find the sound very pleasant as well. Also hear noticeably more detail in jazz and classical recordings I know well. Note: I have not compared the 696 to new receivers. I also have not used the 696's advanced features yet.

Since I had been a very good boy this year and my old Samsung surround was starting to fail, I decided to get myself a christmas present.......so I pulled the trigger on this one and I'm very glad I did. First thing I liked was I hooked it up and it updated it's firmware. I like that because that tells me I'm going to be able to hang on to this unit a little longer. Set up was a breeze and the sound is awesome.

Not the cheapest. Not the most expensive. Is priced right for the amount of features it has. Great image with Roku ultra and 4k Samsung with HDR-10. Sounds great with my Boston acoustics speakers. The automatic sound calibration didn't worked well, so I had to tweak the settings a bit. Works well with Google Assistant. I can cast music by telling Google to do so. It as not bigger than my previous pioneer receiver, so I had to change the tv stand, but I was going to change it anyway.

Excellent 7.2 receiver for the price; however, zone 2 is not synchronized with the 7.1 system. This causes a bit of an issue as my zones are connected in my basement. Upgraded from an older denon, which lost hdmi audio on two inputs. Love the new features and sound quality is great overall. Upgrade to 4K video pass thru is also big plus.

I chose this Onkyo receiver since many stereo reviews said this was the top choice for 2020. It definitely has all the features I need and sound quality is excellent. I did have issues a few times setting this up. The only option was to perform a factory reset, which is annoying. My other choices were the Yamaha RX-V6a and RX-A2a.

So far so good with this receiver. Easy set up except for the RCA zone 2 output set up. So far not getting output and the manual is a bit vague on this feature but have not given up trying to figure it out. No paper manual was included and is available online which I actually like.

This is a reasonably priced receiver that’s loaded with features. Setup was relatively easy. Very happy with how everything works. Plenty of room for adjustment so the audio can be tailored to your liking. I updated to this because I wanted a two zone receiver that could operate each zone with its own input. It’s also controllable by an app which is very handy.

Picture and sound quality are the best I have had. This amp matches up with my Hi-def Samsung TV and gives us vivid color and sound, much better than my old amp. We also use this amp to feed speakers throughout our house providing hi quality music through the day.

I am no expert; this receiver performs extremely well for the simple task of 2-channel audio. I overbought in this case to have the capacity for future expansion. I don't even need the subwoofer channel because I have DefTech speakers with their own amplifiers running "built-in" subwoofers. Setup pretty much requires hookup with a TV, which is not part of my current configuration; it's a minor inconvenience to connect a TV temporarily.

Onkyo makes solid A/V receivers and has for years. This is the only manufacturer brand of A/V receiver I have used. I just upgraded an Integra DTR-6 for this Onkyo TX-NR696. It is feature rich with all the ports I needed to upgrade my existing Surround system. The blue tooth feature is a great addition for streaming music from your mobile devices. Setup is easy and adjustments can be made to fine tune the Theater Surround environment.

Have to say, after TWO failed Denons, and this being my second Onkyo I am very satisfied! the set up is easy, and sound quality for movies, TV shows, and vinyl records is pretty awesome. I implore users to play with the Hz settings based on your speakers until you're happy. The EQ options for 'phono' is great. One complaint that I have is the noise from the AVR when it appears a relay is being tripped while watching Apple TV. Not sure how to correct it.
