Customers are positive about the excellent sound quality, ample power, and straightforward setup process, along with its extensive features and effective room correction. However, customers have noted some issues with HDMI performance, particularly with 4K Blu-ray, and slow input switching. The complexity of the Dirac feature has also been a point of concern.

Great sound but a little clunky

I've owned this for about 2 months now. Using it with a 3.1 system consisting of in wall 5.5 deftechs for fronts and center and SVS1000 Pro sub. TV is a LG G3. It sounds great with lots of ways to configure. Functionally it's a bit clunky though. Input switching can be very slow, I couldn't get dirac to work for a month (which I was told was becuase their servers were down) and when I did get it to work I didin't like the result. This may be because I'm only running 3.1 or my speakers or something else but I ultimately abandoned it. I also found that it would often take a while (hours) for it to recognize a new input (i.e. cable box or game console) after plugging in with HDMI. Lastly the onscreen menus to configure the unit would come and go. Sometimes it would work and sometimes I would get a "please wait' message and I would have to unplugged/replug in the unit to fix the issue. It was always fixable but kind of annoying as it isn't very practible to use configure via the on unit display.

I purchased a denon 3800 but it did not provide the sound I was looking for, until I tried the RZ50. I have been putting together a new high end speaker package together and have been listening to all types of receivers, speakers, subwoofers etc. I found the denon receiver was very basic it did power my Kef towers and center. The clarity in sound I was looking for in music and the detail in surround was just not there. It was just mediocre and I was satisfied but just not happy. I read and heard many positive things about the RZ50 and so I decided to try it out. Thats when everything changed, Not only it powered my speakers easily, but the sound in both music and movies was just incredible. Im not knocking the Denon, all Im saying is, dont go by what is recommended, go by what makes you happy and gives you that sound you have been looking for. Dont hesitate to do the research, you will be surprised. Oh yeah and Dirac is included with the RZ. Theres a reason why the RZ50 are in backorder and you have to wait weeks to get one. I found the sound I was looking for, and for a great price. Good luck in finding your sound. I took a chance and I couldnt be happier, Onkyo delivered just what I needed and the price was even better. The design is modern yet classic, let me warm you, it is a tall Receiver so measure your space accurately, and No dont remove the feet to make it fit, because theres air that needs to pass through. Also, take the time to read the user manual and you will definitely enjoy and get the best out of this receiver.

This Receiver is so flexible, 3 Zones, 11 channels, the Onkyo App is great. I can seat outside on my Patio (Zone 2) choose to stream from Tidal, Pandora, Spotify. Adjust the sound and effect, without ever going inside. This receiver packs a Punch, Very happy with this Receiver.

This receiver delivers strong, clean power with great detail and dynamics. Dirac Live really elevates the experience, tightening the bass and improving overall balance across the room. Movies sound immersive, dialogue is clear, and music playback is precise and enjoyable. Setup is straightforward and connectivity has been reliable. A great centerpiece for a serious home theater system.

    Fantastic Future-Proof AVR

For some background, I was looking to replace an older (15+ years) Pioneer Elite SC-05, which was a fantastic AVR that allowed me to utilize HD audio from Blu-rays. It's held up well and was giving me no issues, but I wanted to unlock 4K capabilities (including Atmos) that it was lacking. Given my positive experience with Pioneer, I was drawn to them, Onkyo, and Integra, since they're all under the same ownership umbrella. I watched and read a slew of reviews, and the Onkyo RZ-50 was still being regarded as one of the best AVR's a few years after release, so I decided to pull the trigger once it went on sale for Black Friday. It...is...fantastic! Very easy to setup and comes with not one but TWO room programs - I used the standard Onkyo as opposed to the acclaimed Dirac as I only have the puck mic, but I'm quite happy with the sound. I'm running a 3.1.2 for now with a set of Focal towers/center and an older Klipsch sub, and there have been no issues whatsoever. I would say it's very neutral sounding, so if you want something warmer you might not like it. Bass is a little on the thinner side, but that could be due to my speakers and not the Onkyo. I do find it very true to the source material, though. Plenty of HDMI inputs, latest spec, 8K support, gaming features...it has all of the bells and whistles you need. One gripe - and it's very minor - is that the audio format doesn't display on the front of the AVR while in use. It only shows the source as well as the volume - I'd prefer to see Atmos, True HD, Dolby Digital, etc. Definitely recommended!

This is a dynamic system! It gives me the capability of still enjoying my analog components without having to buy a separate phono preamp. It features al the latest features you would want in a high end system. Power is plenty at 120 watts per channel. It is efficient in delivering that power while being clean in its sound. There are higher priced receivers out there that don't deliver the features that the Onkyo does. A sound investmnt for a for an audiophile.

I was lucky enough to snag this when it became available again. I purchased this to replace a Yamaha RX-V6A which ended up being pretty big step up. The main thing I wanted out of this received was the Dirac Live and it works very well. It takes some time to setup and fortunately I have the UMIC mic for use to calibrate and used my laptop to do the calibration. I had a lot of frustrations with the IOS app and the included mic and gave up. This definitely seems to need some work and unfortunately you can’t seem to use the UMIC mic with the IOS app. Either way prepare to spend at least an hour setting up Dirac and also prepare to do some follow-up calibration on cross overs and volume levels for each speaker. Once you fine tune all of that things really being to settle in and show the value of this received. I also tested this with VRR on the PS5 and it works flawlessly. You need to adjust the HDMI inputs, at least in my case, to support 8K enhanced, I you miss this step you will not be able to use all the PS5 4K features. The remote on this isn’t as good as the Yamaha. There are several single press options that existed on the Yamaha that simply are not there on the Onkyo such as direct selection of Audio modes via a push button. You have to cycle through options and I find that painful. Bottom line is that the audio quality and Dirac are noticeable and worth the extra $$$. If you don’t care about Dirac then I’d suggest other options however.

Excellent sound quality for movies and music. Dirac Live room correction is often considered better than many competing calibration systems. Good value compared with similarly equipped models. I have had it for about 2 months, and I love it. I would hardly recommend for other users.

Onkyo has always been a trusted beand for me. I still have my old receiver but wanted to get an updated one. I have more options for speakers than my last receiver and the power ouput is just right for the highs and the lowes. I have a SVS 16 Ultra suwoofer, 2 ultra towers, center and 2 back channel svs surround speakers and they work perfectly. Clear sound and punchy base

Excellent product, easy to set up and configured, noticed a big difference in sound from our Yamaha model we replaced. Sound is very crisp and clear. We purchased for addition of height speakers, configuration of 7.2.2, sounded so good that we have no need to go to the movies my spouse stated.Excellent price for all the options you get with this receiver compared to other models.

    Mixed Experience with the AV

I purchased the AV on 09/22 and have mixed feelings about it. On the positive side, the sound quality is great, and the UI is easy to navigate and understand. Setting it up was a breeze as well. However, there are some frustrating issues that I have encountered. Firstly, the Dirac feature can be complicated if you're not familiar with it. It took some time to figure out how to properly utilize it. Additionally, while the AV boasts a lot of inputs, I've experienced frequent disconnections, with the units disconnecting about half of the time. Changing inputs also seems to be a hassle, as the system tends to revert back to the previous input instead of staying on the selected input. Furthermore, I've experienced unexpected occurrences where the sound and image suddenly cut out without any apparent reason. But the most frustrating issue is that the system randomly shuts off, which is highly inconvenient and disruptive to my listening experience. Overall, while the AV has some strong points such as great sound and an easy-to-use UI, the frequent disconnections, input switching problems, sudden sound and image issues, and random system shut-offs have been significant downsides. It has been disappointing to encounter these issues with a product that I had high expectations for. I hope the manufacturer can address these problems in future updates to improve the overall performance and reliability of the AV.

I decided to take a chance and try out the Onkyo TX-RZ50 after finding it on special during the holiday sales. I wanted to compare it with my Marantz Cinema 60 I had in my home theater system. Holy cow, what a difference with the Onkyo! I knew I might experience an improvement with movie material, but I didn't expect it to sound so good with music as well, especially when comparing it with the Marantz. I think most if not all of the improvements are coming from the Dirac room correction. When I ran that program the sound improvement was dramatic! I'm thrilled with this receiver! It's definitely a huge step up from the Marantz Cinema 60.

I exchanged another Onkyo unit to the TX-R60 9.2 NETWORK A/V RECEVER. Has several setup variables, and one needs spend time with both the directions and playing with the unit. It is challenging to set up blue tooth with Alexia app and Sony TV. I have enjoyed listening through my Infinity Overture II bi-amped speakers.

I have been an Onkyo fan for many many years and this is an upgrade from an older Onkyo 7.1 receiver. I cannot believe the difference. I added two rear speakers because this one can handle my 5.2.4 layout with subs and 4 height speakers. The Dirac setup took a few times but WOW what a great setup option. I watched Top Gun Maverick and could almost feel the jets flying across my ceiling with the room rumbling and no sub distortion. You would have to spend another $1000 to get close to this quality. Great price for a substantial upgrade.

Outstanding product! Paired with Klipsch RP8000f, 504C, 600m, & 500sa. By far the best my home theater has ever sounded. Dirac Live Room Correction is a bit tricky at first, but with proper guides and being paired with a UMIK mic on PC will bring out the best in the room and speakers. The difference after a calibration vs having Dirac off is seriously night and day and I will never own another AVR without it. It's just that good.

I bought this receiver to replace several other receivers that fell short of what I expected.First i started with the sony An1000 which turned out to be a lifeless piece of junk. Then moved on to the sony es 5000 and that was pretty much the same story except it cost me double the price for garbage sound so I started doin research on what receivers were getting rave reviews and the onkyo rz50 was across the board getting praised by most sites so took the leap and boy am i glad i did! This reciever performs and sounds like its a 3 to 4 thousand dollar reciever it has everything you could want and the sound is 2nd to none. The only thing i can gripe about with this onkyo is that it doesn’t have dual independent subwoofer inputs it has 2 sub inputs but it acts as one so you cant adjust 2 subs independently you would need to buy the rz70 for that feature but i can tell you this was night and day difference and i wouldn’t hesitate to buy this receiver if your looking for high quality audio for music and movies!

I have been considering this A/V receiver since it came out a few years ago. Supply was very limited initially and so I chose the Pioneer VSX-LX505 which has similar, but not identical specifications. The Pioneer is a great receiver but has some limitations which the Onkyo improves upon. So when availability improved and some big sales were going on I jumped at the chance for the Onkyo TX-RZ50. I was impressed with the sound and power, particularly once I used the DIRAC system to adjust the sound. Of note were the different crossover settings available on the Onkyo but not the Pioneer. You can't go wrong with either but my preference is the Onkyo. I should also mention that there were some glitches in the Pioneer which required replacement, however that was easy with Best Buy. I would not have been so pleased if I had to pay return shipping if I bought it from another vendor.

I bought this TX-RZ50 to replace a TX-NR696 which stopped working properly. My TX-RZ50 was an “open box” purchase and I got at a good price. It’s far better than the 696 was in many areas. But, there is something to watch out for. Depending on your TV and receiver combination, the eARC function could be very temperamental. I couldn’t get mine to work properly. I understand that’s a common problem between some receivers and TVs regardless of brand. I ended up using an external streamer which solved my problem. The audio quality and ease of use is very good. Also, if you lose the remote, most functions can be done at the receiver.

This receiver is fantastic. It comes with multiple ew softwares, dirac and accueq. The dirac is somewhat clumsy when used on mobile. It disconnected several times until I could finally get it to work. But the receiver itself sounds fantastic. And especially at the sell price of 1200 bucks. If you pair this with a $300 amp, I think you have a excellent 7.2.4 system. That's at a cheaper price than anything on the market currently
