Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the excellent sound quality, ample power, and straightforward setup process, along with its extensive features and effective room correction. However, customers have noted some issues with HDMI performance, particularly with 4K Blu-ray, and slow input switching. The complexity of the Dirac feature has also been a point of concern.

Outstanding Power... no problem driving my B&W 703 towers with 705 bookshelf surrounds and 7 series center. Dirac is a game changer. Very impressed with results compared to to my Denon and Marantz with Audessey. Remote is not great but use Hdmi control anyway. Can not beat it at $1000 sale price... insane value

I replaced a 20 year old Yamaha receiver with this and WOW. Night and day difference. I got it on sale for 1000 dollars and for that price you WILL NOT FIND A BETTER DEAL. This is a 7.2.4 surround system when adding external amps. Do yourself a favor and go get one.

Picked this up on sales at Best Buy for $300 off. Shipped directly to me. I was a little disappointed in the shipping. Best Buy used UPS and UPS said they tried to deliver it which was not true. Long story short, I got it a few days late. The receiver itself is massive. This will be my 3rd Onkyo receiver in the last 18 years. I upgraded to this one for the addition of ATMOS height speakers. Setup is easy. The inclusion of Dirac is definitely a plus. Although I never had an issue with Onkyo's proprietary system, Dirac is better. The only deficiencies I see in this receiver are the remote, which is small and cheap and the fact that it doesn't have 2 separate channel subwoofer outs. My first Onkyo receiver had a nice remote that did everything and lit up. This seems to be the trend among all receiver makers now. There are dual Subwoofer outs, but they are exactly the same signal instead of being left and right channels like on some other high end receivers. Not a deal breaker but it still would have been nice. Other than that, for the money, this is a great, feature packed receiver.

I was not disappointed. All specs were excellent. The user interface was a great improvement over the Denon, Onkyo and Yamaha receivers I have used recently. Tip: when moving from 2 to 4 height speakers the connection of back surround will change. The sound quality left nothing else to be desired, excellent. The preamp outs for all channels added flexibility for experimenting with external homemade speakers, equalizers and analog amps. Loved the DIRAC calibration which used the computing power of a cellphone. I will mention one other unique issue I had. I was using 2 passive subwoofers with my choice of full range stereo amps. I needed to add external equalizer as during some music environments I could hear noise (digital?). A regular powered subwoofer would not have this issue, low pass filter and bass boost is built in.

Longtime Onkyo user, had a TX-NR609 years ago that developed an issue where sound would drop out from channels. Onkyo let me send it back and exchange it for a TX-NR646. I’ve been using that for about 6 years with no issues. Bought this to upgrade to allow for better 4k features as well as to future proof for a long time. Basic setup was a breeze. Have not used DIRAC yet. Without changing anything else in my setup, sound quality noticeably improved. I have a 7 channel setup with Polk S60 towers, S15 surrounds, and an Emotiva C2+ center. This receiver easily drives all speakers much better than the old one. WiFi connectivity works great. If you’re looking for a high end feature packed receiver for under $2k, this is a great option.

Second time around and I am very pleased with this model , I mainly upgraded it for the higher refresh rate over my 5 year old Onkyo. I say second time around because the first attempt was an open box bought from Best Buy .com and they sent me an entirely lesser model. It took over two weeks to get resolved after they first told me they would not give me a refund and I couldn’t return it because it was a wrong item . I called every day and spoke to a new customer rep until they finally issued me a return label for a refund process . This is the first I’ve had any issue purchasing from them as an open box item, it would have made the whole experience easier if they had allowed it to be shipped to local store for pickup rather than to my house at least in store upon delivery the problem could have been documented and processed much more efficiently on their end . As far as the AVR I have owned many Onkyo and always had good experience with them and this one is no exception, a great AVR with lots of features . I have not tried the Dirac yet , but had great results with another that uses the same system and fantastic results.

Well, I've been owning this receiver now for about approximately 3 weeks. I have not hooked it up to its full potential yet, right now. I'm just running the two left and right front speakers, the center speaker and the 2 atmos speakers. It sounds pretty good, but I still have at least 8 more speakers to connect to get the true sound that I'm looking for so I may need a pre. Amp, to connect once I install everything. But for right now, the sound is amazing that it gives

Purchased this to replace a 20 year old Onkyo receiver that still worked really well. This unit is a rocketship. Easy to set up. Dirac set up was easy, but took multiple times as kept getting "speaker mismatch detected error", but it eventually worked. The system sounds great -worth every dollar so far,

2 extra stars given for potential. The Onkyo TX-RZ50 is incredibly feature rich and a screaming value......if you're lucky enough to have a functioning unit. I finally built my 5.1.4 home theater system and my installer set everything up properly. I immediately noticed the GUI for the receiver flickers on my screen and experienced HDMI dropouts (LG G2 tv) but those seemed to settle once I launched a movie or show. Worse yet, while the test tones play from all 9 speakers and sub, the RZ50 simply will not output Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. I cannot get Atmos tracks to play with my Apple TV 4K or my Panasonic 820K (which is properly set to output Bitstream audio) and have to use the Dolby Digital tracks to get any audio. My installer couldn't figure it out, nor could anyone else I know with home theater experience. Thankfully (or so I thought), I had purchased Geek Squad protection for the Onkyo so I dropped it off at my local Best Buy for repair and was told it had to be shipped to a service center. I immediately got a notification that the device had been shipped to the local service center (which is less than 60 miles from where I live). It has now been 10 days that I am without my receiver and have received exactly zero updates on the status of my repair. I understand receivers are complex and the repair may take some time but having to send away your expensive item without any updates or estimated timeline is frustrating and not very confidence inspiring. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in my experience with the Onkyo RZ50 and so far less than satisfied with the service I paid for. I will update my review if I get it back in full working condition, as well as update my experience with Geek Squad.

Finally, an AVR that has more than one 2.1 hdmi input’s. This particular AVR has three hdmi inputs that support 4K @ 120fps. I have two PS5 and two Xbox Series X. Since there is technically only two sources on the market that support 2.1. If you have both consoles and a TV that also supports 2.1 hdmi. This AVR is for you. I absolutely love this AVR. The dirac live is awesome. Way better than Denon’s room EQ. I have not had any complaints or issues with this receiver.

I like it!!! It's got a lot of power and very easy to make changes to settings. My old pioneer receiver, you had to plug the microphone in and then look through almost everything to find what u wanted. This one has 1 button.

I did a lot of research because of the price point and knowing the system is only plays as good as the receiver. This one has the best output/channel that matched my 8" in-ceiling application. All of the options are great. I hooked up my pool patio speakers to different zone and can play that separate than inside 5.1 surround sound. This is why I picked the 9.2 capability, for the zones. This has all the options plus extra. Have not ran into any issues. I did buy a little computer fan to blow air around the unit to keep it cool. eARC from TV works as needed, TV auto detects and plays as required. I run this and all other equipment through power conditioner.
