Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the excellent sound quality, ample power, and straightforward setup process, along with its extensive features and effective room correction. However, customers have noted some issues with HDMI performance, particularly with 4K Blu-ray, and slow input switching. The complexity of the Dirac feature has also been a point of concern.

I loved this receiver. The only problem was the fact that Bluetooth would not stay connected. I bought one had that problem so I returned it and got another one and had the same problem.

Generally, I’d say this is a good AVR. But it has some serious flaws when it comes to the Dirac software. If you change just about any setting, including your listening mode, such as multi-channel stereo, etc., poof, Dirac disappears. This goes for many other settings as well. That is made even worse because you can’t just reapply it. You have do your measurements all over again. Plus, you’re required to use an app to use Dirac. Why isn’t it built into the AVR? Also, the build quality on this particular unit was lacking. The front tray that folds down didn’t fold back up to a flush position. It just hung open. And the two selection knobs on the left were pretty cheap plastic. The remote was a little cramped, but acceptable. It got the job done. The sound quality and power was quite good, as well as having a good front panel display and OSD. But when you’re paying a premium on the unit to use Dirac, it had better be worth it, and it certainly was not. TL;DR If you’re buying this unit without intending to use Dirac, great, it could work for you. If you want to use Dirac, look somewhere else.

Buyer Beware! I purchased this receiver in October 2024 and should have returned it before it was no longer returnable. The sound quality is good but the receiver is very buggy. I can’t even get the on-screen display to work at times. This purchase has been more frustrating than anything and now I am stuck with a piece of junk.

HDMI Issues after a year of use

After just over a year of owning this unit, the HDMI out is no longer working. Onkyo customer support is terrible, I cannot recommend this product. This seems to be a known issue, yet they do not address it. If I could I would return this and get a more reliable unit, even though this one has all the features I need, I would not purchase it again. I was hoping the HDMI issues would not hit my unit, and I took the chance, but this will prevent me from buying anything Onkyo in the future.

Was great at first, then menu options disappeared, like audessy, Dirac, and any setup options and “please wait” came on screen when I tried to get to the menu. Contacted support, went through the tge doft reset and factory reset, nether worked. They said I was under warranty and I just needed to take to my nearest service center…3 hours away. This makes the warranty useless. If you buy make sure to get an extended warranty or roll the dice on a $1500 paper weight when something goes wrong. This was my last onkyo, pioneer, or Klipsch product.
