Excellent Home Theater System. Very easy to set up and running Dirac was a breeze off the app. Everything has connected smoothly, small issue with HDMI encoding off 4K Blu-ray, hdmi setting for that input and has to be toggled , then it works fine, Sound is incredible and music hits all the notes.

Oh man what can I say… 1st off I was able to snag this baby for the $1,399 price couple days before it went up to $1,599! Talk about luck with all this inflation. Bought it, got delivered to my local Best Buy on my actual birthday!(9-13-87) Talk about an awesome birthday gift! Got it home and a couple days later I set up all my speaker connections to an upgrade of 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos config coming from 5.1.2! That same night I calibrated my Klipch speakers with the amazing Dirac Live after my family went to sleep of course. Need a QUIET time to set this baby up. Theres a little bit of a learning curve with it nothing too fancy. You can use the phone app or computer but I used my laptop for the full experience. After Dirac Live did it’s thing, everything sounded ANAZING, more detailed and clear and that’s coming from my now old TX-NR686 model which still sounds great. I put that one in the living room. I have my RZ50 in my game/theater room now. I’m happy with this receiver. The new Denon x3800h has Dirac Live but you have to wait for a software update sometime next year. On top of that, it’s not even free! Like c’mon seriously?! You still have to pay even more for what the Denon x3800h costs where as this beautiful RZ50 has it built right in for free straight out of the box ready to rock and roll. Do yourself a favor, stop waiting, stop contemplating and pick yourself up the Onkyo TX-RZ50!!!

This receiver is amazing. I upgraded my older RZ series onkyo receiver, and this one is packed! My new klipsch speakers have new life pumped into them. Plus Dolby atmos & THX sounds are awesome. Plus it has true 4k with 120 hz pass through which is my main reason for purchasing this receiver, which appearently is very uncommon. Most receivers have 4k with only 60 hz pass through… but this one is amzaing and powerful. My front speakers can handle upto 150watts and my surround sound speakers can handle up to 120watts and my subwoofer can handle upto 400watts. This receiver handles all that wattage and ohms with ease and power. Very pleased with my purchase.

Really can't beat the value for the price. I have it setup in a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos speaker configuration with an external amplifier with my front stage and rear surrounds powered by the external amplifier. In this setup with running eleven channels the rear surrounds have to be powered by an external amplifier. Wish you could only power the front stage Fronts and Center but for the price and the sound you get from this receiver you can't beat it. Movies Music Games and Sports all sound so dynamic with the different sound modes you can choose from. After running Dirac Live with my computer and just the setup mic and not really knowing everything about the Dirac App the sound blew me away. Getting Dirac Live with the receiver was the main reason I got this receiver. It's some of the best room calibration you can get. Other receiver's Denon and Marantz make you pay almost 500 for all the software with everything you can do with those receiver's. I just recently got a umik-1 from minidsp and also have watched a few YouTube videos on Dirac Live. So interested in seeing how much better it will sound. But really with just the setup mic and Dirac Live it has blown me away how good it sounds. There is a clicking noise sometimes with protecting the amp it makes occasionally that sounds the same as when turning it on but it's not a deal breaker for me.
This really has been a great purchase for me so far and hoping to get a new 4k tv with 4k 120hz so I can play Xbox Series X and PS5. But so far on my LG C8 the games picture and frame rates have been great. So pleased with this purchase. You can't get a better deal.

Great receiver! Had been running a Onkyo nr-818 for close to a decade now and the time finally came for an upgrade. Been difficult finding this model in-stock but I jumped at it when the BB website said add to cart.
Setup was a breeze, and the calibration results with Dirac were awesome. You need an internet connection and the Onkyo app installed on your smart phone to start the calibration. Otherwise you can use the still effective Audyssey setup.
I plan on adding ATMOS speakers down the line however I’m enjoying being able to use my surround back speakers again. My old receivers back surround didn’t work right so the speakers have been boxed up until now.
Sound wise this receiver is great also. Two channel listening has great presentation and sounds more like the audio is coming from the wall my speakers rest at as apposed to just the middle sweet spot. 7 channel mix for movies is spot on.
Video wise no complaints but I haven’t had a chance to try anything 4k as of yet. Running a BenQ 1080p projector, but the colors and overall picture looks great.
I love that AirPlay 2 is built in so I don’t need to have my Apple TV to stream music.
Hands down best receiver I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to get Atmos and a 4k project hooked up to it!

This reciever is the best in multiple catagories. I have previously tried a comparable Denon AVR and the Marantz SR5015. The RZ50 was clearly the winner here. The RZ50 is as of now is one of the best receivers for both Home Theater setups and Music enthusiasts.
The DIRAC calibration is extremely easy to use and accurate.
I highly recommend this receiver and will urge others to get this for their HT setups. I have had older Onkyo receivers and they have never failed to amaze me :)

Outstanding Power... no problem driving my B&W 703 towers with 705 bookshelf surrounds and 7 series center. Dirac is a game changer. Very impressed with results compared to to my Denon and Marantz with Audessey. Remote is not great but use Hdmi control anyway. Can not beat it at $1000 sale price... insane value

I purchased a denon 3800 but it did not provide the sound I was looking for, until I tried the RZ50. I have been putting together a new high end speaker package together and have been listening to all types of receivers, speakers, subwoofers etc. I found the denon receiver was very basic it did power my Kef towers and center. The clarity in sound I was looking for in music and the detail in surround was just not there. It was just mediocre and I was satisfied but just not happy. I read and heard many positive things about the RZ50 and so I decided to try it out. Thats when everything changed, Not only it powered my speakers easily, but the sound in both music and movies was just incredible. Im not knocking the Denon, all Im saying is, dont go by what is recommended, go by what makes you happy and gives you that sound you have been looking for. Dont hesitate to do the research, you will be surprised. Oh yeah and Dirac is included with the RZ. Theres a reason why the RZ50 are in backorder and you have to wait weeks to get one. I found the sound I was looking for, and for a great price. Good luck in finding your sound. I took a chance and I couldnt be happier, Onkyo delivered just what I needed and the price was even better. The design is modern yet classic, let me warm you, it is a tall Receiver so measure your space accurately, and No dont remove the feet to make it fit, because theres air that needs to pass through. Also, take the time to read the user manual and you will definitely enjoy and get the best out of this receiver.

I was lucky enough to snag this when it became available again. I purchased this to replace a Yamaha RX-V6A which ended up being pretty big step up.
The main thing I wanted out of this received was the Dirac Live and it works very well. It takes some time to setup and fortunately I have the UMIC mic for use to calibrate and used my laptop to do the calibration. I had a lot of frustrations with the IOS app and the included mic and gave up. This definitely seems to need some work and unfortunately you can’t seem to use the UMIC mic with the IOS app. Either way prepare to spend at least an hour setting up Dirac and also prepare to do some follow-up calibration on cross overs and volume levels for each speaker. Once you fine tune all of that things really being to settle in and show the value of this received.
I also tested this with VRR on the PS5 and it works flawlessly. You need to adjust the HDMI inputs, at least in my case, to support 8K enhanced, I you miss this step you will not be able to use all the PS5 4K features.
The remote on this isn’t as good as the Yamaha. There are several single press options that existed on the Yamaha that simply are not there on the Onkyo such as direct selection of Audio modes via a push button. You have to cycle through options and I find that painful.
Bottom line is that the audio quality and Dirac are noticeable and worth the extra $$$. If you don’t care about Dirac then I’d suggest other options however.

This is a really hard item to get at the moment. I waited 6+ months to finally find one in stock at it MSRP from another store (i really wanted it to get from Best Buy for the points but after 6 months of waiting, they still don't have them in stock).
Anyway on to the receiver; Great build quality and very easy to use. My favorite part is I can adjust the crossover for each speaker. Unlike the Pioneer VSX-LX505, where you can adjust the crossover but for just the Large setting (and then you only have Large or Small options for the speakers). This was the turn off with the Pioneer and why I got the Onkyo instead. Onkyo is also $100 less for basically the same AVR with a little more.
For Movies: I have it in a 5.2.2 Atmos configuration and for movies it sounds amazing after DIRAC calibration! I guess my only issue is that, while it has 2 subwoofer outputs, they are not separate; instead it's more of an internal RCA-Y adapter. When calibrating you can only adjust 1 subwoofer. I had to get an SPL meter to manually adjust the second subwoofer.
For music: If you have 8ohm and High Sensitive Speakers (say 91db or above) then the 120watts in Stereo\Pure mode is plenty of power. In fact, this receiver mated very well with my Klipsch RF82 towers -- nice warm clean sound even at very high volumes; enough bass where a Sub is not needed. HOWEVER, those Klipsch belong in another room, and I actually have my B&W 683 S2 towers connected to the Onkyo. These are low sensitive speakers and have low impedance drops from 8ohm to 3ohms, therefor are very hard to drive and need power. The TXRZ50 handled them fine and not much noticeable for movies. For music however, you can tell the Onkyo just didn't have enough juice to power the B&Ws to their full potential, even when BiAmp'd and in Pure mode. Therefor, I have an external power amp to drive my front stage.
CONNECTION: Plenty of connections in the back, I have my XBOX ONE and UHD Player (Dolby Vision and HDR passes through without issues - just make sure you use 48Gbps HDMI cables). Bluetooth works great and stores multiple devices (you just need to connect and disconnect from the actual device and not the Onkyo). I have HDMI eARC connected to my Sony X95J. It works flawlessly, sony remote controls Onkyo volume fine and passes through Pause\Play\Next options to my blu-ray, however, every now and then the AVR will auto turn even when the TV is off (i assume this is the TVs fault when checking for auto updates).
The receiver also does not get hot even at reference levels (I should add, I do have my front stage speakers connected to a separate amp, and my equipment is inside the BDI corridor entertainment center which has vents everywhere which that helps with the heat,).
Overall this receiver packs so many things at just $1,300. There are no other receiver at this price that can compete.
