This receiver says on the box that it is Dolby Atmos supported. Once I unboxed this and set it up, it did not have Dolby Atmos. The instructions actually had me go to a website and download an update. It required a certain kind of USB drive and the update File looked very sketchy. I did not have a USB drive nor did I want to go buy one and I sure as heck didn’t want to download that file onto my computer. Unfortunately, because of those issues, I returned the item if you do not need Dolby Atmos, then this product is fine. However, the major selling point was Dolby Atmos and DTSX which out the box did not have I hope this review helped.

I installed it and found the vocals sounded very muffled like the high end sound wasn't working. I tried several times changing the speaker settings to no avail. I assumed it had the latest update as the latest one is from 2019 but no they didn't. I spent 3 hours one 2 different computers trying to format a usb drive to something the receiver would recognize to no avail. Apparently the usb drive needs to be formatted to FAT with a dos partition according to the web wehen looking into the error code. What a complete waste of my time

Easy to setup. Took me a minute to get the bass set where I wanted it, but once I figured out what I was doing, it was easy. Sound is very good. Happy with the product.

For what it is, this receiver deserves a 5, but for what it isn’t, I can only give it a 4. Setup was easy and the sound quality is great across a variety of devices and audio formats. The auto calibration was spot-on for speaker distances.
The issues I have with this receiver are probably just down to its age. Despite still being sold, it lacks eARC and cannot pass through 4K 120 FPS. For its price, it should be able to do this, and competing receivers from Denon at a similar price can.
I got an amazing deal on one open-box, though, so I am overjoyed with the value for the money. Rating it relative to what I paid, easy 5-star receiver. But relative to its current list price new, 4 is the best I can give it.

I was looking to replace my old Onkyo receiver with a newer model that supported Dolby Atmos and 4K. I have a 4K Blu-ray player and a DirecTV stream box connected to it. This receiver does the job and is about 1/2 the price as most of the other receivers that support 7.2 channels. My current speaker setup is 5.1 but this new receiver gives me the option to add two more speakers plus and additional subwoofer if I wanted. What sold me on this model is that it has a virtual height feature that allows me to enjoy Atmos and DTS-X content with my 5.1 setup. The sound is pretty good. The picture is also good running my devices through the receiver vs going directly to the tv. I was worried about this model not having eARC support but with ARC I can still turn on and off all my devices with a single remote. The only drawback is if you want to connect a PS5 to it. This receiver does not support VRR 120FPS. So you’d have to connect your PS5 directly to your tv but if you end up doing that, you’ll lose Dolby Atmos because of the lack of eARC. So keep that in mind. If you only plan on using this receiver do movies and music, it’s pretty awesome and you can’t beat the price but if you plan on using a gaming console, you’d probably want/need something else but those will run you at least two to three hundred dollars more.

Purchased to replace a Pioneer Receiver I’ve had do about 10 years , I’ve know had this recover 6 months now it pretty solid , I like having the 4k pass thru for my consoles , sound is good and it has good power , when watching movies the sound is clear and crisp and yes it also depends on you speakers but overall it’s a solid good sound receiver with good power , good menu and easy to switch between devices.

Easy set up. Also remote has functions that make it easy to adjust stereo and surround formats. Sound quality is very good especially for the price. Bought the receiver on sale which made the purchase even sweeter. Even though it is not the latest model still has enough audio and video formats for most users' needs. So far so good on reliability of product. What I like most is the remote control which makes it easy to control the various features and formats of the receiver.
