    Works as advertised

I plugged it into my router. It worked just fine. The dial-tone is a bit weird and takes a few times to get used to it. I didnt need to port mine or transfer my old phone number. Mine was the absolute basic installation. I've read several complaints about the product functionality issues. They all seem to be from the same type of customer. They either have multiple lines and lots of features, or they have equipment issues that are probably related to their Internet service and/or equipment configuration. If you just want it for basic home phone service with voice mail and caller ID, then Ooma is a very cheap option that works very well. I've had absolutely no issues, so I've never had to deal with their customer service which, for all I know, could be a nightmare.

    AWESOME Product

These are selling for half what I paid for my first unit 5 years ago. It is an awesome product and works great. I lost my first unit due to a power outage and immediate surge so I bought a universal power supply for the second ooma unit that I also plugged my cable modem into. The basic service is free. You only pay the taxes on the phone service every month. I upgraded to the ooma premier for another $120 a year. With it you get a second phone line and the ability to black list the telemarketers. I Can't recommend this product highly enough. It also supports the use of a fax machine if you need one.

    excellent call quality

No clipping, stuttering, garbling or dropped calls. Crystal clear call quality. But beware! when setting it up be sure to enable 10 DIGIT DIALING! as this will lead to embarrassment by getting wrong numbers. Tempted to give less than 5 stars because of that alone. And don't waste time with the handset it is not good.

    Best VOIP, IMO

Once set up the VOIP service is great. Decent Internet is required. The "free" OOMA rate replaced a normal landline that cost over 10x more.

You must specifically cancel premier service!

Great hardware and good service. I replaced the unit after about 5 years, then noticed a year later that they were charging me $17/month, presumably because they gave me a "free" upgrade for one month. I was never given the option for just the basic plan, which is great for $3-7/ month. Tell the agent you do not want the Premier trial service.

    It just works

I purchased this for my mother-in-law to replace her land line. It was an easy setup and the process was fairly painless. The only criticism I have is that it was $40 to port a number in. This is a little higher than most places, but over all she is saving hundreds of dollars a year.

    Funny Ringing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Same as B4, the old one was probably OK, but was 20 years old. The purchase was made because I started getting single rings, or a long ring followed by short ones that always resulted in a dial tone. When the problem continued after installing the new Ooma, I disconnected my phone system, and plugged in a Bell System push button desk phone with the same results. Conclusions, single and short rings are the new norm. My regular calls have always come through fine. Perhaps it's a form of spam and robo call rejection, but they still get through anyway.

It worked exactly as it was described at ooma.com. Quality is superior, I got read of my RCN regional plan, was paying $4.23 (taxes, FCC fee, etc.) for 2 months, then when my trial of premium Ooma ended paid $60 discounted price (regular is $119) for a year.
