Great device and service
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was easy to set up and their web site is decent. If you want to port your current number Ooma will charge a fee of $45.00 to do it. I wanted to keep my number so I paid for it. Otherwise, you can easily pick a new number through them at time of set up at no cost. Quality of phone line is just as good as the one I had through Comcast. I am happy with this purchase. You still need to pay approximately $3.50 per month for state taxes and surgarches.

Easy to set up. Good audio quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to retain my land line number, but cut my dependance upon Verizon or the cable companies. This allowed me to purchase a bare bones Internet connection without having to choose a package that generally gave me more than I wanted or had extra charges. There are cheaper ways to "cut the cable" for phone, especially if I was willing to lose the land line number I have had for decades. But Ooma seemed to be a reliable way to retain my land line # in a way that I could reliably transfer it elsewhere in the future if I chose to drop Ooma in the future. Setup was very quick and easy, and the audio quality is very good. NOt sure what audio quality would be for a slow internet connection. Mine is a strong FIOS internet, so that may be a factor in my satisfaction. I chose to purchase the Ooma premier plan so am spending $10 per month. This was because it gave me a free transfer of my land line (a $40 value) and I also wanted to test out their spam filter. The filter does seem to filter robo calls, but spammers are getting clever and finding ways to get around that. I'll stick with the premier plan for a year, but most likely will drop it at the anniversary, which will leave me with an ongoing phone bill of $0.

Ooma Telo VoIP home phone service easy to install
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ordering and pickup were easy on the Best Buy web site. Installation pretty easy as well. Checking voicemail seems doable from the device or from the myooma web site. I was able to transfer my home phone number for a one time fee. Looking forward to using the Ooma Tell to make phone calls.

Excellent Call Quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy hookup from router to Ooma that took about 10 minutes. A lot of things are part of the $10/month premium package but you can decline them. After that the monthly cost is the phone taxes. Mine were $4.66 per month. Notable features of the Premium service are; names to match the number on the inbound caller ID. and the incoming message playing over the Ooma speaker. Convenient, but not a deal breaker. Call quality is excellent.

Very good, almost great.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice looking, easy to set up, excellent call quality. Built-in "answering machine" better than standard voicemail because you can screen calls and pick-up a voicemail in progress. Better than conventional answering machine because your messages are on the cloud and can be accessed anywhere, including the phone app. A little annoyed that the information that porting your old number costs $40 isn't more up-front. Took some digging to find out how to change the standard voicemail greeting too. But overall very satisfied,

So far, so good!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only 6 bucks a month for a 'landline' vs Spectrum's 20 or Frontier's 25? Nice! Works perfectly with the multi-handset and answering machine system we've had for ages. Only complaint is that it takes a very long to time to start up the first time and after a power/internet outage. So long you might think it doesn't work anymore. 15-20 minutes after your internet comes back this thing will still be flashing red. Took off one star for that reason. Otherwise, I'm happy with it so far.

A landline option
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're still into landline phones these days, then I would recommend this option. There is a selection of annual fees based on the level you choose, account details are configurable online, you can block the unwanted numbers in addition to caller ID, call-return, and all other standard phone features. Customer service is alright to say the most, and the unit itself is reliable, although needs restarting from time to time.

Defective and Unreliable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the telo for a month now. I am on my 2nd telo with a 3rd on the horizon. First telo had issues in beginning, but got better. However, the speaker in the machine which announces how many messages you have was choppy and echoed: Every other syllable was blocked out: You __ mess __ and __ save __ mess__ges. (Outside callers voicemail messages were fine.) I talked to customer service level 1. Their stock answer was always reboot telo and modem. Once they checked internet speed and told me it was great. Then they passed me on to level 2 customer service who performed a number of additional tests. Level 2 couldn't resolve the problem; they determined it was a speaker issue, and sent me a new telo 2 weeks later. The 2nd telo had the same poor quality announcer speaker issues as the 1st. In addition, when I turned the brightness of the blue status light down to 1 (dimmest), the telo started automatically rebooting itself frequently and randomly. During these reboot episodes lasting 3-5 minutes each, I had no phone service which concerned me in case of an emergency. I noticed a correlation between the brightness settings and the automatic telo reboots: The dimmer the brightness, the more frequently the telo rebooted itself. It was still happening at the highest brightness setting of #4 (highest). The dimness control seems to control the electrical power of the telo. I called customer service several times. Level 1 couldn't resolve it. Sometime I was lucky enough to get someone immediately at level 2, other times level 1 told me level 2 would call back - they never did. You have to be very persistent and not give up to get any resolution. Then they told me to plug the telo into a different outlet. Hmmm... My computer tower, monitor, modem and printer have been using this electrical outlet for over 10 years and there has never been any problem with the outlet. Even the 1st telo did OK in the outlet. I tried another outlet which is not convenient. Same problems at first. Then later I tried it with an extension cord, kept the brightness at # 4, and now a solid purple light has come on twice automatically which means it is in do not disturb mode. I didn't even touch it. The only way I can clear it is by rebooting the telo. Also, I'm having trouble deleting messages: The delete button doesn't work right away-- I have to go 5 times through the process of listening to a message and pressing delete until it finallty gets deleted. I will have to call customer service again. It seems like it's easier for Ooma to send out a new device every time there is an issue, rather than fixing the existing problems and sending out a reliable quality machine without defects. I'm betting the 3rd telo they send me will have the same speaker problems as telo 1 and 2, andfrequent automatic rebooting issues as telo 2. Unfortunately I bought my telo from Best Buy which has only a 2 week return period, so I am stuck with the telo now. It's too bad because the telo could be a great product if Ooma fixed the bugs it could save people a lot of money on phone service. Also, you have to return your "defective" telo to Ooma after you receive your new replacement. I did so 2 days afterwards, but it takes 10 days to get to Ooma's California location. In the mean time, Ooma kept sending me emails and voicemails that if I didn't return it in 14 days, I would be charged. They could have simply checked the tracking number they assigned in their return label to see that it was enroute. I had even called them to let them know I brought it to the UPS store, but the messages continued until they finally received it.

Great VOIP Phone
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with this product. It works great. Plug in to gateway modem/router. It took bout a week for my current number to get ported. It cost about $5.00 a month in taxes or add another 9.99 for special features, which are actually pretty nice.

Replacement
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My earlier Ooma lasted nine years. This new version with WiFi and Bluetooth is a significant upgrade. Install required a call to Customer Support as their app failed to connect to the unit. Their agent was efficient and got me up and running quickly. Once online, this is a great product. The sound quality is very good and you cannot beat the price.

Good choice for VoIP
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went into Best Buy thinking I was buying the Magic Jack. However, there are yearly fees involved and I started looking at the Ooma, which I wound up purchasing. I am glad I did. Set up was easy. I have a Century Link Modem. At first, I couldn't get the blue light to go on the Ooma Telo. I called the toll free number and they had me check one of the connections and I've been good to go since. I've had this product about two weeks and I'm very happy with it.
